No one has EVER beaten these two dancers with Spring Waters. Their vervascity, energy, joy, spirit, her leaping forward onto pointe, never been equalled. I remember Joan Bakewell introducing it on tv from The Tent saying words to the effect, Hold your breathe. You're about to see something you've never seen the like before. Very very short, and utterly breathtaking. How right she was. I have that whole The Tent performance of the 1980s on video but can no longer see it, so I am utterly thrilled their version is on KZbin. At the moment, I look at it every day!

I was lucky enough to see this performed live by these two dancers and I've treasured the memory for years.

I come back to this again and again - such a magical tonic. Maria Bylova is one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen and she and her partner are perfectly matched with their long straight limbs and square shoulders - so vigorous, healthy and dashing they are together that I swoon every time.

I'm certainly no expert on ballet. But it seem so me that this pas de deux is danced more expertly and smoothly than other KZbin versions of the Rachmaninoff song. (Especially at the very end, where Bylova is lifted "on the fly", with no awkwardness.) Does anyone know who orchestrated "Spring Waters"? Rachmaninoff himself from his piano version? Or did perhaps Asaf Messerer have it orchestrated for his (iconic) choreography?

salodaysofsodom I agree, of the many versions on here, this is the most exhilarating. I would like to know who orchestrated it, too - I think there are other versions with less brass....

salodaysofsodom yes I see it is a song, piano piece and more

And the way she throws herself into his arms... and how he carries her off at the end. Other 'Spring Waters' dancers shown here on KZbin seem not to want to attempt these (riskier?) moves.

Typical Soviet-era, rampantly bogus, campy Bolshoi claptrap. Not a fan.

look beyond the politics and enjoy the beauty. the music is Rachmaninoff, and the dancers are amazing and energetic.
