Springbank 10 is one of my all time favorites! Longrow 18 was a bit of a challenge at first. Besides earthy peat, it had vinegar and stomach acid notes for the first third of the bottle, but then became pancakes and breakfast sausage with heavy butter and maple syrup!

Just tried it last night and instantly loved it. The peat kinda hangs out in the background and comes in during the finish and sticks around for a bit. Cant wait to try more expressions!

I just had my first taste. Oh man, what a fake out the neck pour on the nose gave me. The first taste was just as you described it. The "Springbank Funk"💪🏾. Light a Maduro stick and ready to dive in a bit further. Thanks man for another great review. 🥃

Been looking for a bottle of this for a while and finally picked one up. Heard a lot about the "funk", but I didn't find it in my bottle. It was slight peat up front and very floral and fruity after that. Was expecting some controversial wild ride but it just a delicious cruise. I'd liken it to a 25/75 mix of Wee Beastie and Clynelish 14.

Where did you get it from? I bought one in Edinburgh in September on a trip (I live near London), but I'll be buggered if I can find one online now to replace it with. Unless you want to pay £200+ on Amazon !

Springbank is not the only distillery in Scotland where everything is done on site. At Kilchoman for example it's done as well. (both great stuff by the way)

Good review Bill, I love Springbank 10, but yikes, not for $80 in your area. I paid $54 for mine which is a lot more reasonable. Another good non-Islay peated whisky worth a try is Ledaig 10. Fuller, more going on than the Springbank, but again, I'd like to also try the older Springbanks and Longrows budget permitting!

Hi Bill I watched your review of the springbank 10year old, and I'm surprised that you don't have a great liking of the 10year old, I have over 200 bottles of scotches, and I love anything springbank, I have the 10year, and 15year, and the 18year old, and springbank is with out a doubt is my favorite whiskeys of all time, I have a bottle of the arran 10year old, and it is garbage compared to any 10year old springbank 10year old, I love all springbank whiskeys I don't get any whiskeys that can come close to the flavor you get from a springbank, this whiskey has a dunage, earthy flavor, the only whiskey that comes close to this whiskey is the Glen Scotia victoriana, and I love them both equally, I give the springbank 10year old a 94 points as well as the springbank 10year old, and it only gets better with the 15year, and the 18year old, price is not a factor, I will pay what ever, I just bought another bottle of the 10year old for $78.00 dollars, and I have 3 bottles of the 10year old, I don't won't to ever run out, cheers brother and keep the great reviews coming !!!

Like or Dislike: Like. There more detailed the tasting notes get, the more I enjoy the videos. And the cut scenes -- especially the early ones -- and smoke overlay are a fun touch.

Hey, this new format looks much better ! I could subsribe to this ! Just a few things : -no clear score at the end (highlighted), i know some people hate marks or ratings but most of us do like 'em. -when you presented the Springbank range, you could have found something more recent, the 10 year old bottle displayed is the old version of the one you are reviewing...besides, you forgot to mention the 25 which could be considered as part of their core range. Apart from that, it's long enough, the music is not too loud, that was really pleasant, thanks !
@TheWhiskeyDictionary4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I specifically don't do scores as it seems like almost everyone rates every whiskey at an 83-94. Not super helpful in my opinion. Its why I opt for the Stock it, Buy it, Try it, Ignore it. With regards to the bottles, Springbank doesn't consider thr 25 as part of its core range springbank.scot/whisky/springbank/ however you're right about the bottle, that was a whoopsie

@@TheWhiskeyDictionary i am a fan of their approach towards whisky making. I have tried the 10 and thought it was good. I had the Longrow CV but preferred their discontinued Longrow 10. I have a few Longrows 18 in stock. I have never tasted the 25, much too expensive ! Are you going to review the OP 15 soon? I have three OP 17 and i am wondering whether i should buy two more or try the new core range as the 18 is supposedly quite good (your woty 2019) and i can have them for about the same price (98€)
@TheWhiskeyDictionary4 жыл бұрын
I know that the 17 is discontinued so if you see them it could be worth picking up. I really liked the 15 and obviously loved the 18. I doubt I'll do the 15 for a while... i have a lot of bottles to go through!

Just killed this soldier couple days ago. I had to drive out of state to find it, kind of tough to find at least for me. I certainly got the sea salt and citrus and barely noticeable peat and yea, the funky taste, I don't find objectionable and is certainly unique.

OT, but I noticed those Corsair bottles on your wall. Has Corsair finally dumped their awful Reservoir Dogs inspired labels? If so, that's long overdue for whiskies that have always been far better than their packaging. Love Springbank (and its funk) by the way. For years, I often had a bottle of the 10 around. Picked up the 15 earlier this year (which seems to be the most divisive bottling among Springbank fans) and liked it even more. Really look forward to trying the higher age statements (about which there's more universal acclaim, but which are really spendy). And I'd leap at a bottle of the cask-strength 12 (which costs around the same as the 15 but seems more universally loved) if it ever shows up in my neck of the woods.
@TheWhiskeyDictionary4 жыл бұрын
Nope they still have it however its not reservoir dogs. My next video will be on them, you'll learn all about it :)

I've been an avid collector and whisky drinker for a very short time. I want the challenging flavors, high ABV, WOW whiskys that don't break the bank. No matter how hard I try to save my pennies for an expensive bottle that I can relax and enjoy.in reality I usually buy 2 or 3 reasonable ones to gain more experience. I am working on quantity AND quality. I just picked this up for 70 plus tax half hour away from my local shop and saved $20. Another proper whisky! The Funk, the oil, the smoke. A proper scotch. Not sherry and not Islay and not bourbon! I see people buying 1.75l MacGregor from the bottom shelf as I peruse the single malts above. Those days were over for me in high school. I wasn't going to drop 2 Benjamins on the 18 when I could start with this for $70. It's amazing how the price ceiling lifts from $50 when I started to $90. Over $100 happens. I spent $200 on the Longrow 18. First dram was breathtaking. But I'm learning that a proper whisky is just a drink, no matter what you pay.
