Great review guys! I have a bottle of the Springbank 18 (2019 release, 88% bourbon, 12% port) that I plan to open on a special occasion! Keep up the great work! I really enjoy your work!

Ref: Whisky Review #36 (6 years ago) lol. Nice update guys!! Agree these are all over the place, but still always so interesting.

lol well that could have been 2016 but it prob was more like 2014 bottling

Another solid review. This one was super flinty and limestone to me, but also a bunch of citrus and toffee-honey. This batch was a mix of bourbon and sherry casks. The exact proportions were undisclosed but the bourbon was first fill and some of the sherry was refill. Cheers!
@maltreviews2 жыл бұрын
Thanks bud, proportions make sense. Cheers!

Great review! Never had a SB 18yo, every time I looked into it over the years I never found a consensus in rating this high enough to where I thought it was good value for the money. Doesn't bother me that I never tried one. Your review just confirmed I was right in spending my money else where. And now people are wiling to spent $400cnd for something that was over priced at $200cnd just 2-3 years ago. A lot of delusional drinkers out there.

Thanks! Ya honestly its not one where its a must try, especially with so many options out there.

Fascinating review! I was sipping a Springbank 18 from 07/24/2015 right along with you. You were dead-on with the pencil shavings, mineral and metallic notes. I know I was sipping on a different batch, but those same notes were there in spades. Also not my favorite dram, but you're right: it's very complex with ocean spray, mineralic notes. I also got a peppery dank funk on the nose, light honey, floral, and coastal notes with some lime spritz/ginger and citrus rind on the palate. Definitely not my favorite dram but this review was a joy to drink along with. Slainte! How about an upcoming cigar chat? Would love to see it!

Always fun to have a dram while watching the review. We finally have another cigar chat up. Cheers!

Love the conflicting opinions and notes you guys had on this one. It's weird that the 18 seems to stick out as the black sheep in the family, with many reviewers giving it consistently less praise than other expressions in Springbank's core range.

Yes, overall the 10 and 12 are favored and better priced of course

Thanks guys, I think this one was 80% Sherry/20% Bourbon.

My 2016 bottling is from August. Is yours a USA release 75cl? Mine is 80% sherry/20% bourbon and that was the norm back then. I get paint notes in mine which I love. I have been enjoying a 21 year Glen Mhor from 1976 which has a really strong note of oil paint (accompanied with spearmint which is usual for me). Possibly harks back to an old career in oil based ink printing!

Yes. So funny how all we crave these days with our jammy fruits is oil paint and ink! Cheers!

I think with these Springbanks its great for the experience, not an easy dram, not always high pointer, but it makes one think. The more recent ones were more sherried thus more approachable ( and enjoyable ) at least for me. But again 100 peoples 100 opinions so heres mine. Cheer dudes :)

For sure, and always fun to disect a whisky like this, especially years after. Cheers bud

Haven't had this one but this era to me were much less exciting the recent releases. Generally there were mostly ex sherry (very tired).
@maltreviews2 жыл бұрын
Ya springbank had some years where the quality did drop a little. But I will say they released some amazing single casks during this time
@topshelfdustin30602 жыл бұрын
@@maltreviews just the cask quality. They still did something really good though.

The bottom line is it doesn't rank because it's not available. It used to be but not any more. In my past experience I never rated it that much and thought the 10 better. I've even had a sulphured Springbank 18 and Longrow 18. The old saying was the older stuff subsidised the core range but since the core range no longer exists what's the point of the overpriced old stuff? Today's Springbank is decent but not the legendary stuff of the past. It really isn't worth the hype. Cheers guys. WT
@markhanson69142 жыл бұрын
exactly, I will buy the 10, 12, and 15 if its at retail and available(lol) The higher age statements are way over priced for the quality. Lots of good whisky out there and I refuse to chase anything. Cheers
@maltreviews2 жыл бұрын
Ya its not one to chase honestly, especially if you can get the 10 and 12 at retail. Cheers bud!
