Purchased 911 and had many problems feeding any ammo. Tricker pin kept falling out and jammed on every other round. Sent back too factory three times and finally asked for a refund. Springfield did return the purchase price of the 911. I purchased SIG 238 and have run a thousand rounds without a failure. Great comparison on both guns!

Very good and thorough review. I am soon purchasing my first firearm and the 911 caught my attention while browsing today. I am looking for a small and light weight CCW for everyday use and the 911 seems to be the winner due to the compact size and the 1911 styling which I am a fan of. The extended 7 round magazine makes it feel as though it was designed to fit snugly inside my palm and I feel will make an excellent CCW. Great review, very detail oriented and showed the positives of each firearm

I've owned the Tuxedo edition P238 for about 4 years now. It lives up to its reputation: it is reliable, accurate, and comfortable to shoot. From a maintenance point of view I've had to change recoils springs about every 600 rounds or so, and I've had to replace the magazine catch spring because the magazine started ejecting while I was shooting it. This is routine for sure. Nice review.
@Sam_the_Sham_and_the_Pharoahs2 жыл бұрын
I put a Wolff extra power spring in mine and it really made a difference for 11 bucks. I'd highly recommend it. It made an already comfortable shooting firearm even more so in my opinion. But I've always loved the P238, it's hard to beat for it's size. I got mine for practically nothing so I'd never complain about it. It's always been reliable and accurate for what I would ever need it at.
@ocelblack98233 жыл бұрын
I've had the SIG P238 HD for several years, the HD model is slightly heavier because of it's all Stainless construction. SIG, Springfield and Kimber are all copied from the long discontinued Colt Mustang with mainly cosmetic differences. All three makes are softer shooting micro's than similar sized polymer framed direct blowback operated pistols. Their delayed blowback actions don't require the stronger springs taking less grip strength to operate the slide. The felt recoil is noticeably softer and they are surprisingly accurate for their size.

Excellent comparison. While I know this is older, comparing both to the Kimber Micro380 and Colt Mustang would've have been ideal, but obviously there are limits on time and availability. I have a Sig P238 SAS with stainless slide, much better night sights, and some other features on the Springfield 911. I also have a Kimber Micro380 CDP with the 911 features and a carry "melt" treatment (like the SAS) stainless slide and barrel. In 2015, I paid less than $700 for the Sig new, and the Kimber was under $800. I also found the mags between the Micro380 and P238 were interchangeable, except one Kimber extended mag required much more force due to the base interfering with the P238 magwell (easily fixable).

My sig 238 started dropping the magazine while firing at about 1000 rounds. Apparently the mag release spring has been wearing out on these models. I truly loved the gun but this new "feature " scared the hell out of me as this is my every day carry. I sent it back to sig and this is a known problem with the 238 and 938. They replaced the mag release spring and the main spring. Just giving everyone that owns the 238 the heads up
@-o-The-Duke-o-5 жыл бұрын
Kevin Medeiros We’ve had the same issue on my wife’s 938. We just received it back from Sig with a new Spring and mags. We need to get it out and see if in fact it has fixed the issue. It’s really a shame as otherwise it’s a great minuscule option for deep concealed carry. I will jump and grab a 9mm 911 as soon as it comes out as it will be great for “shorts” weather. I do hope it doesn’t have the same magazine popping issue as the sig though. If I don’t see the 9mm come soon I may jump at the XDe 45. It’s hideous but the manual of arms is much closer to my preferred carry, the CZ P-01.

I won the Springfield 911 in there EDC $150K "every day carry" contest. 3 months after I purchased the P238. Both weapons are very close as the video shows. I carried both for 3 months and found the 911 to be just a little better of a fit for me and gave the P238 to #1 son. I've measured the trigger weight at 3.4lbs on the 911 and also found the pull on the slide less then on the P238. I preferred the G10 grips on the 911 over the P238's wooden but its a easy and cheap task to put them on the P238, I'm currently trying the Viridian grip laser that was part of the EDC package, I do have to say I am EVERY displeased with Viridian as a company for there product, I can only say it arrived not working, not the prize they said its was and now 4 weeks later 3 ppl and no answers. But the engineer son had it working in a hour. I did prefer the sites on the 911 over the P238 as well. The one thing I did not prefer on the 911 over the P238 is the safety, the ambidextrous safety on such a small weapon IMPO doesn't work. When Time permits, I plan on seeing if the P238 right hand safety lever will fit the 911, if not I will be machining the ambi lever down to keep it from contacting the web of my right hand when lowering it. Great video thank you.

@southfork676 жыл бұрын
Good comparison video. The biggest improvement I see in the 911 design is the external extractor. P238’s are notorious for throwing brass in your face. The P938 has an external extractor and ejects more predictably. The 911 safety appears to be a little longer and more tactile. Trigger function on the 911 looks better, as you demonstrated. It would be nice if you used a digital trigger pull gauge if you are going to do a side by side comparison. As many know, these are both copies of the Colt Mustang. If Colt would have offered better sights and not been so ridiculously overpriced, they would have sold a ton of them. I own a P238, P938, original Mustang Govt Pocketlite, and Mustang XSP. The best shooter of the group is the P238, (in spite of poor ejection) followed by the Mustang XSP that I had fitted with Novak night sights. The worst overall is the original Govt Pocketlite. Full of cheap 1990’s MIM parts and acts like it. (But still worth a pretty penny)
@southfork676 жыл бұрын
Since my original reply, I’ve had the opportunity to handle and dry fire the 911. The slide serrations and grips are an improvement over other similar models, as are the longer safety levers. I’ll disagree with the reviewer about the trigger though. The example I handled had considerable stacking and grit in the trigger pull. The Sig and the Mustang both still have better triggers.

Hope we get some high capacity versions sometime soon. They're both great guns, even without higher capacity magazines. Seems like all the gun companies are catching on with the whole high capacity micro thing. Would love to see some good SA models too. I don't think the CSX it anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be, but it doesn't compare to the quality of these. If either company made one of these with 10rds (or 11), I think it would be an extremely popular options. I heard the new Bodyguard 2.0 has an excellent trigger too. I think it's a little light though for not having a manual safety. (Although I'm not one for manual safeties... but I do prefer them on handguns with very light, short triggers).

Never fired 911, But Just got my p238 3 days ago (238-380-WTP) , though I want the 238-380-TUX soooo bad , but it's haaaaard to find. Even if I do eventually find the TUX will be keeping both most likey. I was shooting a Ruger LCP 380 before this, and geez that thing bites so hard on the base knuckle of the thumb, something fierce, makes it hard to keep a tight grip, easy to flinch from, and mis-ejected like nearly every single mag. The sig I could fire one handed and hit 4in spacing at 7yards. it shoots like a dream compared to that ruger. Im new, shot maybe 700 rounds in my whole life? The Sig was super easy and comfy and reliable. I don't have to worry about having ejection or misfire issues like I did on ruger. This sig likely will never be replaced, other than by another sig I like better. I'm just that happy with it.

Great video! I own a P238 in HD satin stainless steel. The 911 is a great value, and the trigger alone is a real upgrade… that said, I like the P238’s trigger. The 911’s light weight is another plus, as my HD is +/- 20 oz. The fact that I get a 50% reduction on my new mags is fantastic!! Oh, and pay extra for the mag w/ extended floorplate… even with recoil absorbed w/the HD’s weight, a solid purchase on the grip and 1 extra round are important in self defense. Maybe more so on a lighter pistol. Again, very well done video! I don’t regret my 238 purchase, but my daughter might arm-twist her dad for the 911. Great value.

So just to lend some substance here, the Sig P238 comes in many variations and the case and added items change depending upon that as well. Some come with extended mags and some do not. As far as the Springfield 911 goes, the changes are mostly options that some like over the Sig that are purchasable for the 238. Obviously there is a slight difference in things like the trigger safety and slightly more changes option of the outside extractor and perhaps other changes within the frame that this video did not cover. That being said, the biggest advantage to buying the Springfield 911 in usable functionality that isn't just based on preferences....is the lifetime warranty offered by SA. Sig's warranty is NOT bad... but in dealing with SA on other handguns, their service is both easy to access and among the very best when it comes to fixing or outright replacing one if their firearms. If I were not extremely happy with my Sig P238 HD, I'd consider the SA 911... and yes, they fire much the same, though I think the weight balance and guide rod spring make the Sig P238 just that much easier to keep on target for awesome grouping and keyhole shots...especially if the one carrying the gun has an average girl/lady arm and hand strength. Otherwise, it's hard to go wrong with either.

The p238 doesn't have a loaded chamber indicator but if you look on the right side of the breech you can always easily see the brass of your cartridge in the open visible gap between the breech and the bolt face. You can see this gap from 6:05 on just aft of the breech. I have the p238 and I love it. It's extremely easy to shoot well as it points naturally. I can hold about a 2-3 inche group at 15 yards bench resting it. With the 4 fives drills (5 shots/ 5 yards/ in 5" circle in 5 seconds) I easily keep everything within the circle. It has far less recoil than a Beretta Cheetah, also a .380 but easily 20% bigger and heavier. I wonder if with 2 oz. lighter than the p238 the 911 will be as comfortable to shoot? It's obviously a clone of the p238 which is a clone of the Colt Mustang II. I love the looks of all 3 but I actually think the new 911 looks best.

Nice video. Thank you. A couple of call-outs for folks wanting either of these. Make sure your holster, especially if IWB, covers the mag release. It is etched and will irritate you. It will be on the inside next to your body. Some holster makes use the same cutaway on both sides but you need more coverage on the mag release side. Also the safety might get bothersome after a while (but less so) if not covered. This "comes with the package" i a 1911. I have a couple of holsters that missed these small but important points. I may have to get new holsters.

Great review of both pistols! Thank you! It's just too bad that Springfield Armory stopped making the 911.

Did they really? That sucks

I have one of the 911 with black finish, tritium sights and have to say I love mine. I tried both it and the sig and liked the 911 way better. The sights and trigger were the stand outs for me. Mine has a 4lb trigger and the outlined green and white tritium sights make it easy to stay on target at reasonable range. Lighter than the sig was just icing on the cake for me. Get one if you find one, they are great.

California compliant models of the sig p238 come with a loaded chamber indicators. And they make a all stainless steel model

I'm glad I got my sig on sale for 490.00 I'd be upset. I do like the larger trigger guard opening on the 911. Thanks for the mag info and great review.

I use Springfield 911 .380 mags in my Sig P238. The Springfield mag works better in the Sig than the Sig mag and is half the price.

I am a little confused by your comment, repeated for both pistols, that the magazine release was designed for left-handed shooters only. I am a left-handed owner of the Sig P238, and the release is fairly easy to activate using my left trigger finger. However, I frequently practice shooting right handed, in which case the magazine is even easier to activate using my right thumb. This is a small gun, and in the normal shooting grip my right thumb directly covers the magazine release. To my way of thinking, this release was designed specifically for right-handed shooters.

Thanks for the comparison. Wife likes the 238, so going to seriously consider the 911.

IMO the 238 would be better for most women. Like I said physically handle both as there are some differences. It may not be an issue for her it was for me due to neuropathy in my hands. I found the Sig was just so much easy to operate. I had problems even racking the 911 so would not have bought it if half price.

She picked up the 238 after trying it out at the range and loves it.

Shot 50 rounds of different manufactures and the Springfield worked great. One eject hit my safety glasses!!

I have the 911 but in 9mm. I like it but at first, it had a problem with the slide hanging up. I had to polish out an area on the slide and the barrel to solve this issue before I could carry the 911. it does cycle flawlessly now.

Bam, I just snagged one brand new 911 for $399-. I have my girlfriends P238 sitting in my safe and I've been envious and wanting one for myself, now I have comparable for a considerable cheaper price. Yes, that was an impulse buy, but heck it saved me money so I had to move on it.

Nice presentation... thank you! I have the Sig P238. I don't carry it. The feature these hammer fired guns lack is a de-cocker. I carry the S/A XDE 9mm that is equipped with the de-cocker feature.

Thanks for posting. I got the 238 'SAS' model (dehorned f/ergonomics), had the slide refinished in black to match frame. Put on rosewood grips - looks really nice & shoots very well.

The Nitron Sig has a Nitron-coated stainless-steel slide, not carbon steel. As for which "mini 1911" is best, I think all 3 -- Sig P238, Springfield 911 and Kimber Micro -- are ALL good...can't go wrong with any of them. -- BR

The Springfield 911is a copy of the Sig238, which is a copy of the Colt Mustang.

Right now 8/9/2018 you can get the Sig combat on Bud's gun shop for $518. That's with a house grip, and a laser. The Springfield is $524 that's with Standard grips and no laser.

Prefer the Sig P238 over the 911, simply because the heavier frame helps manage the recoil much better.
