Got to use an M-14A1 while in the Army. I was working on a training lane as an aggressor. LOVED THAT RIFLE! Weighed a bit, but loved it. Only had one malfunction and it was my fault. Had a five round mag. Put a combat load in it. With the pressure of the rounds in the magazine, and they were blanks, when I fired the first round, it jammed. Didn't take much to fix it. I'm sure if I had had a 20 round mag it might not have been a problem. But I loved that weapon. Always wondered if we used today's materials to make one if it would be lighter. Now there was an M14A2, but it was never fielded due to the M16. But I have seen pictures of it and I'd would love to own one.

The 1911 is a good tack-driver on the range, but there are better options for fighting pistols. Don't get me wrong, if you trained with it and are familiar enough with it, you should definitely carry one. Just don't do what a lot of 1911 fanboys have done with the platform and the .45 ACP. The seem to think the .45 is the deadliest round ever, and firing it from the 1911 imbues it with magical powers or something.

This is hands down my favorite rifle to shoot and always will be my go to "holy shit the world is burning" all purpose rifle. It is extremely accurate, you feel like you are shooting a full sized standard rifle and not like you are shooting an sbr. Ive always liked shooting the M1A and it was a toss up for me between the socom 16 and socom scout and I'm so happy I went with the 16. I did want something in .308 and was looking at several rifles including the SCAR but the socom 16 was cheaper and preformed better so that's what I went with. if you are looking for a good all purpose rifle I can't recommend this gun enough, you wont be disappointed.

I don't blame you, considering all of the problems the first M16s had. I carried an M4 in Iraq and, trust me, the AR platform is much more reliable than they used to be. I even put about 1,000 rounds through one without cleaning it and it worked just fine. I just put CLP on the BCG between firing iterations.

YES! Finally a review of the Springfield Armory M1A!!! I can see your enthusiasm and adulation throughout the entire video. I feel your positivity clear across the country here in Arizona. Thank you so much brother! I too, have been waiting a long long time to acquire the last of the M1A family (We have them all except for the Socom 16). I have more time training on the M1A than I do on any other platform including AR's and AK's. My progression as a Rifleman includes the entire M1 family. It started with my competitions as a young boy using an M1 Garand, then migrated to an M1A and finally culminated with a Mini-14. From personal experience, I can say that training with the M1A Scout has proven to be the better of both worlds so far. While the standard M1A has been the rifle in which I have the most experience with, I can say that it is more of a DMR setup. Nearly all of my 1000 yard matches were using the M1A or M1 Garand. However, for practical application training, I found the M1A Scout to supersede the SOCOM 16 as a "do-all" battle rifle. However, that could rapidly change with the acquisition of the final family member, the SOCOM 16. *On a side note - to those who are entertaining the idea of training with an M1A inside of a shoot house; be prepared for a rude awakening. You will have a headache at the end of the day, but it is entirely worth it!* As always, my wife and I enjoying watching your videos together - especially this one! I have made no qualms about telling her directly throughout the entire year that I only want two things for Christmas - Springfield Armory M1A SOCOM 16 and the FosTech Echo Trigger Pack. Take care and keep up the great work my friend.

Fantastic commentary my brothers and sisters. This is why I love the 2A community. I would like to clarify my statement a little more. While I mildly agree that the M1A is not the ideal battle rifle, it does however, have its merits and is by no means 'obsolete'. Seeing how I do not have a need for a SCAR-H or any other equivalent, I find that the M1A adequately fills the roll it was designed to do (at least for me). Is it currently my go-to rifle? No. Would I hesitate to grab it? Absolutely not. They say "beware of the person who only owns one gun..", well that was my only firearm for years and years (back when 7.62x51 was affordable). Obviously now, I have migrated to a more practical platform being an AR/AK for current training purposes. But the foundation is still there and I constantly have to force myself to leave the M1A in the safe. Sadly, the ammo is just too expensive now. These terms - heavy, obsolete, unreliable, they are all conjecture. It's really no different than an individuals choice as to which vehicle manufacturer they choose to purchase and support. I like American (no GM) and German cars with an Italian bird on the side for some weekend fun! Sure it's not practical have a Ferrari as an everyday driver, but it's not unfathomable either. Same concept flows over into the 2A world. Lastly, I figured that if my Grandfather could trek across the European theatre with a 9 pound rifle (plus ammo and other equipment) and my Uncle through two World Wars, then I can surely carry the required weight for any extended period of time too. After all, they were truly the last of the greatest generation to have ever existed. Great conversation everybody. Take care my friends and keep up the good fight.

Bert, do you happen to own the M1A Bush Rifle as part of the family? It was the 18" barrel predecessor to the Scout rifle. It has a flash hider instead of the break and no scout mount for optics.
@BertShackleford8 жыл бұрын
azmaddog6 Ah yes the Bush Rifle version. My father had one many years ago and traded it for a 1941 Johnson Rifle. I was lucky to have fired a few rounds out of her before the trade, however, I was more interested in this new Johnson rifle I had never heard of before. Several years later, we happen to come across a CMP match at Ben Avery. While walking the line, we met a gentlemen who had just purchased the new M1A Scout with the forward rail as we all know it today. That was enough to convince my father to call up his buddies and purchase one for himself. Sadly, my old man is more interested in his model trains these days, so the collection has gone as far as it can. Anything else, like the SOCOM 16, has been left up to me to acquire. My wife has my list, and it only has two items on it. I'll take either one of those!
@BertShackleford8 жыл бұрын
***** No thank you. I have my reasons for sticking with my personal preference. You seem very adamant about pressuring other people to purchase from those manufacturers. While I understand product loyalty, you sir, are pushing this belief on others way too hard. I don't care about some article by some individual who means nothing to me. Thank you for your extremely biased and pushy commentary, but I will not be going elsewhere for my final M1A. Your mannerisms require some adjustment. Take care my friend and leave the sales pitch to someone else.

Exactly, same here. Especially the older ones, the 181-185 series. One thing we do to the Mini’s is take out the original stock liner screws on each side of the stock & drill out the screw hole & re-tap the holes for the stock screws from a M14/M1A. Give it a personal/vintage appearance & the diameter of the screws are nearly identical so nothing needs to be done to the screw holes in the stock itself. Good Day to You!

The only missing item is a bayonet! Awesome gun!!! We used these for our military trainings in the Philippines. Not sure how old the Garands but they held very well. I agree with the video, it is a "man's gun"! I'm guessing the Garands we used for trainings were used to liberate Manila by the US forces!!!

I bought a M1A Scout about 10 years ago. Since then I bought many types of AR15's, SCAR 17, etc etc-- but living in CA I was tired of putting stupid fin grips on my AR's and no way I'm going to register-- so I sold everything but my M1A Scout-- never has had one hiccup since the day I bought it and always has been my favorite rifle. Someday I might grab a SOCOM 16 as well-- Been thinking about it a lot since I already own so many mags for it. Great rifles.

My family has a Springfield 1911 “loaded” model in stainless and it is a beautiful firearm. Everything runs smooth and it’s very accurate. It very rarely malfunctions and has given me a ton of confidence in Springfield. I’m a huge fan of the garand and really want to try out their m1a’s.

I always wanted one, in the army I loved my SLR LIA1 FN. These days the government in Australia banned semi automatic. Would be cool to have one of those today. Appreciate your Guns men. Would be great for bigs. Thanks.

When I was a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute, I really grew to love the simplicity and ruggedness of the M 14. Simple to clean and maintain, easy to operate, can knock the crap out of a horse. (But on full auto it was impossible to handle accurately)

Dad - Class of '51. Brother - Class of '81. Both attended via athletic scholarship. Both Keydet football standouts (if I do say so myself). Both had to (tearfully) be convinced by family members to STAY at VMI, as they were enduring their respective Rat years. Dad passed in January, at 91 years young. Both he and my brother have stated that graduating from VMI is one of the greatest things they have yet accomplished. I, personally, have not found a tighter, more illustrious bond between men, than that enjoyed by VMI alumni. 🇺🇸

A buddy had a Socom about 15 years ago. It was a 5" gun at 100 yards. It didn't stay long in his gun safe. Let's hope Springfield has fixed their shortcomings. It never missed a beat and fired everything put in the magazine. It was reliable.

You wont regret it. Wish I had that same mindset. Just be sure to have $$$$ saved. 1,400 up to 2,300 u.s. dollars Also dont be afraid to say da to comrade Simonov or comrade Kalishnikov. Easy to get ammo for. Ruger makes a mini 14 and mini 30 which are great as well

I found out one thing about American weapons. We suck at making automatic weapons, but Battle rifles with single or semi automatic are great and amazing.
