Question: What mods have you made to your Springfield XD9? First, I want to take the time to give you some background information on myself. Previously, I decided to deny the responsibilities of gun ownership but, I recently have taken that responsibility back for myself with the recent events within our country. I was wrong to give the responsibilities of protecting my life solely on someone else and/or our government. My Goal in uploading these KZbin videos is to first learn how to defend myself, peers & family members, if the time presents itself in a safe & efficient manner while, educating & showing you my experiences (good & bad), by taking this new responsibility of gun ownership. I haven't made any yet. But you should get the speed loader bro. The 1 by 1 or the 10 by 1. 10 by 1 is loading a whole mag all 10 ammo at 1 time. It will save your thumb some pain. 😂

@Ron Ima have to look into getting some speed loaders for the XD9. You ain't lying about saving the thumb pain, especially when shooting at the range. You wast alot of time loading and 30 minutes into the shooting, your thumbs are screaming in pain. How many firearms do you currently own? & Which ones?

Royal, 1st let me say what a responsible explanation you opened with. No one but you can protect yourself and your family! And obviously the GOOD LORD on your side. The government or law enforcement can't. Their always there AFTER the crime, not before. You are responsible for your own protection. I believe we understand each other on that now! As to modifying your XD, get only Springer after market parts. There out of Oregon. They have awesome custom parts for XD's. Like Wilson Combat has for 1911 and Barreta handguns. Welcome to the 2A club I have the 3” XD9 the 4” xd9 and the 5” 45 acp XD45 and I love them all I have never had any problems with any of them they are easy to clean and super reliable. I carry my 3” everyday when I leave my home and my 5” is for home defense. I also live in California and have my ccw so don’t give up it is possible to get one.

Just bought a subcompact 3” in 9mm and I’m loving this little tank. I also live in California so we are extremely limited in terms of options. You can get used SA XD’s in 9, 40, and 45 at Turners for between $300 $500. Hell of a deal considering what a great track record the pistol has and how well they’re finished. I even got mine brand new for $400.

Great video! I’ve been looking to upgrade my pistol (currently have the Hi Point, which is nowhere near the best but I wanted to have a home defense when I had limited funds), which can sometimes have cycling issues and very heavy. I too live in California and the way you elaborated on why you changed your mind on gun ownership is very respectable. Glad you still enjoy the XD-9. I love mine so much I bought the mini within the last month. The mini and the full size can use the same mags, you just need the mag collar. The mini also has a short mag that holds 10+1. I’m thinking about using it as my cc gun. Best wishes and merry Christmas.

Kent! Thanks for the comment. When you say the mini- are you speaking about the Subcompact XD9? I've been meaning to do research if I'm allowed to purchase the Subcompact XD9 in the state of CA. I definitely won't be able to receive my concealed carry permit with how strict the laws are in LA County! HORRIBLE! Which do you prefer the Full-Size or Subcompact XD9?

@@RoyalWalker no, it’s actually the mini subcompact. It has the 3.1” barrel, but all other features are identical to the full size, and you can interchange the mags of the full size just like you can do with the Glock. With a mag collar it extends the grip to a full sized grip. I have an 18rd mag (pls don’t report me to the state of Colorado 😂) so with the mag collar it’s kind of a cool setup. Too bad about Cali bs restrictions, but maybe the Supreme Court case early next year will solve your concealed carry issue. In Colorado, I have a cc and generally I carry S&W m&p Shield Plus. It’s also 10 +1, and also comes with 13 +1. That’s my edc. But, love my xd-9s. The full size I have setup with a light and leave it home for my wife while I travel. The mini I carry occasionally concealed, but mostly take it to the range. The sites are nice on the mini too a little improvement over the full-size. I think the full-size might be my favorite just because I have about 5,000 rounds through it and I can’t recall a jam or misfeed in the years I’ve owned it. I recently replaced the firing pin pin, the pin just in front of the rear site, with a heavy duty pin. It began walking out of the top, but other than that minor issue it’s been stellar.

@@kent2000100 Again Kent, Thanks for the very detailed and through comment regarding the Springfield XD9. I definitely wont be doing any reporting, us Californias have our own battles with the Supreme Court and trying to get legislation to understand, magazines over 10 rounds should be considered standard size magazines instead of “high-capacity magazines.” I haven’t had any issues with jams, misfires or errors while using the firearm but, I will continue to monitor the firing pin if it begins to wear.

I don't understand the hate on the Springfield. I think it's political aspect of it, but as far as the firearm goes, it is straight solid. I just recently added a hollison red dot to my XD. Even though they don't have pre-cut slides. You can get an adapter for your dovetail, Remove the slide and then I used a punch and a hammer and my wooden tool bench, take your time and Slowly punch and hammer the rear Dove tail out and the rest is cake.. It took me about 15 minutes of cautiously tapping with the hammer to the punch. I did not want any scratches And I did not get any. For your adapter, it's called outer impact, you should check it out. Red dot changes the game. In fact, it was today that I zeroed mine in at 40 feet. Golf ball groupings. Look into it and if you're interested, trust me. You will have no regrets. I would just do it if you feel like investing.

@Jesus is da homie Great question! I have purchased two different holsters for my XD9 & Glock 19 which, both support a light. Tier 1 Concealed carries IWB & OWB holsters for a variety of weapons AND/OR Alien Gear Holster. I would start with one of these firearm accessory brands, personally. Thanks for subbing 💯

My list of EDC pistols are: 1. Springfield Armory XD-9mm with Federal HST 124 grain JHP 2. S&W M&P Shield.45 with Federal HST 230 grain +P JHP 3. Taurus 605 .357 magnum 2” snub nose revolver with Remington HTP 125 grain SJHP. I rotate weekly between my pistols to cut down on the wear & tear on my pistols!!!

hi! similar story here. I live in Northern California and limited in what to buy. I've taken firearms courses and shot guns before but never owned one. Got my XD9 (with silver slider) about a month ago. An XDM Elite made the CA roster last month and available. Getting a good storage safe at home, snap caps, ammo storage, etc is also key. Along with a membership to a gun range that I can get training in regularly. I was scared to own guns at home especially with young children. Getting competent and engraining good habits is the key.

@RoyalWalker hi. I only have the xd9 and haven't decided on the xdm yet. Looking into carbine rifles now that take pistol caliber. The challenge is finding CA compliant firearms that are worth the handicaps (fixed mags, featureless vs features, etc). Safety always first consideration of course. I've put 400 rounds through The xd9 with no malfunction using blazer and federal ammo. I got the Mantisx so I can also work on dry fire practice. Haven't tried it in live fire yet. We keep things on the down low at home so the kids don't see the guns at all. Wait until they are asleep or at daycare to practice.

@RoyalWalker as for tips starting out. Take a class! Then read up on all the laws and tests you need to take. Get to know your local laws and what safe handling means. Get some snap caps before buying ammo to practice loading and unloading while keeping in a safe direction and finger off ghe trigger. Or only buy ammo at the range. That was a key thing with kids. We agreed not to have ammo at home until we were ready to properly handle and store everything consistently.

I live in illinois and we have a 15 round limit. It wasn't hard to find retailers out of state to sell me 16 rd mags. We are capped at 15 for carry but not home defense

@Royal Walker Not my first firearm. I carried a J Frame for years. I like the XDS having a grip safety for when I carry it appendix. I'm old so the 45 acp it a round that was popular with my generation. It is large round traveling slowly. Sorta like us boomers.

I wish I purchased the 45ACP when I originally purchased my first firearm(Springfield XD9) because, I'm a bigger/taller guy and I feel the XD9 at times feels too light in my hand. And I will travel with the firearm when I feel it's needed dependent on where we're heading for a weekend wilderness getaway but, it never feels too heavy.

Victor, You couldn't have said it any better. When I have this conversation with non-gun owners; I try to help them understand that gun laws aren't the problem because, they are happening everywhere within our country. CA has some of the worst anti-firearm laws while, TX/FL has some of the best pro-gun laws. Gun-laws aren't the problem, it's the people in possession of these firearms that are the problem. BUT... when you talk to non-gun owners, they can never seem to understand this simple concept.

Californians, come to Las Vegas for a week end, and spend time at Vegas CCW to try out different guns and get training to protect yourselves and the public, one on one, much cheaper than in California.

My only issue with it was the trigger being kinda squishy and not a lot of aftermarket support but other than that it’s very similar to a Glock

I agree. They are some aftermarket support for the XD9 but, not nearly as much compared to the Glock. 10X more aftermarket support for Glock firearms. I'm curious. Which Glocks do you have?

@@RoyalWalker I had the g17 for years and it was pretty nice overall but kinda big for a 9mm so I wound up selling it. I’ve shot a lot of my friends Glock 20 the big 10mm Glock. That things a beast. Shot 40s and 10mm out of it. Really nice gun too. I wound up getting an xd9 subcompact really cheap so that’s what I have at the moment besides my 1911

It’s been a year already! Happy Gun Anniversary! It is nerve racking at first when you own your first firearm. It’s like having a child…responsibility is key. Good to see you’re having a good time with your 2A rights and a hobby as well in marksmanship. Maybe now dip yourself into the Double action/Single Action pistols with de cockers which have some different safety features from the striker fire pistols on the market. 2A 👍💯⛽️

Unfortunately, I don't have any children at this time but, the first year of owning a firearm is very nerve-racking with overcoming your own thoughts and self-confidence in taking on that responsibility of owning a gun. But, like they say... "Growth is achieved by taking chances and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone." I'm currently looking into purchasing a shotgun for home defense specifically a Mossberg. I'm curious. How many firearms do you currently own?

@@RoyalWalker very true. You can’t expand your horizons until you try to break through it. Well you’ll get there with the kids one day. Take your time…they are a hand full. Mossberg is a good brand. Looking for a tactical version or a nice collectors piece? I personally don’t own a shot gun. I’m more of a bolt action guy myself. You’ll have to do a review of the shot gun you get. I currently have 4 firearms to my name.

I'm personally looking for a tactical version for reliability and ease in use... it would be my first shotgun and non-handgun purchase. And you have a lot more experience with an additional 2 firearms to your name.

@@RoyalWalker it’s exciting when you start to branch out from side arm to shot guns and rifles. Tactical is nice since you can add lights, lasers and different sights. Maybe see you out there one day on the range working on your transfers from main to side arm. Yeah I do have 2 more than you…let you know something, quantity doesn’t always mean proficiency. Here’s what I have in inventory G17, Sig Sauer P226 Extreme 9mm, Walther P22, Savage Arms Bolt Action 243. They are all fun and good well made proven firearms.

I should take a couple more courses with a firearm instructor on how to move, get cover and engage a target next. Highly recommend that you take a few classes. I walked in uncomfortable firing my firearm and walked out with knowledge about how to properly hold, unholster/holster and fire my firearm. Great decision!
