I love these nuances. A non-native English speaker called me “boss” at a gas station and it was an endearing blunder in that he tried to use a colloquialism to be more friendly but it’s not the right word for a woman and made me chuckle to myself. Generally, it’s something that older, working class men say to each other. English speakers are always astonished to learn about Colombians calling strangers “flaco,” for example, but they probably don’t realize how many goofy words we have for addressing strangers that are just as nuanced.

These tips are really useful! "Chévere" is my new favorite word. You and your brother look very similar 😉

I think it’s ok to have a comfort level with certain vocabulary between men or between women. I wonder this sometimes since I started watching these if the mostly female instructors influenced vocabulary.

Lol. I'm trying to imagine people addressing each other as fatty/skinny/black(y?) in the States, in English -- with or without regard for how descriptive those terms would be of the people being addressed.

@@kimaya.3563 in my opinion, i heard; you look like a man or look good as a man. If a person says that about a man "hey ever try putting on a wig you probably good as a girl". Granted Some folk do look good both ways, (drag queens) however just seems degrading in my opinion to say "you look good MORE attractive as the opposite born." Something to consider before actually saying it these days, that could be offensive to some. Personally i like women dont want hear hey you look better as a woman, it would make me feel bad because i would feel ugly as a male. Oh by the way "tom boy" is a female who has tendancies to act male not necesarily put on a male persona. (Also this is discusion not me trying to stomp on you)
