When I was a teenager, my friends and I ventured into another Taiwan forest resembling Alishan. My friend shouted loudly into the forest, 'Asidaka, where are you?' (she was joking). Asidaka is the male protagonist from the Studio Ghibli film 'Princess Mononoke, ,a story about protecting forest. I saw someone mention in a comment that the trees in Alishan resemble those from Ghibli films, reminded me of this memory."

Asidaka! I never thought Ashidaka would live in Mt. Ali. I thought he would live with Princess Mononoke near the Lake Daruparingi (大鬼湖), the holy lake of indigenous tribe Rukai. The lake is hidden inside the deep forest in the mountains of south Taiwan. We just leave them to happily live together ever and after inside the deep mountains.

Thats a nice park. Soon Neuralink enables every viewer to smell flowers telepathically just by watching video.
This was also my fave area in all of the places we've visited ng Taiwan. So magical! Will definitely go back and stay there. You went to Sun Moon lake right? In Ita Thao when you ride the cable car, you'll be able to go to the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village and you'll be able to see tons of cherry blossoms too. Our target was to visit all the sites with cherry blossoms in Taiwan and we were not disappointed.

Actually, it's not only in Alishan that you can see beautiful sunrise. You can see sea of clouds and sunset at eryanping trail and the accommodation I stayed at could see sunset and sea of clouds which was mesmerizing. We saw the clouds enveloped the huge mountain in front of us, rushed up and engulfed us and then the next minute, the clouds went away.

Alishan is definitely one of the best places to visit in Taiwan. Stairs are necessary in these mountains for easy access otherwise it would be too slippery with the amount of rains we have here.

I was there in Alishan last Dec 2023 for 3D2N and it was raining all day. We toured Alishan in our raincoats and umbrellas. There were so many steps we took and at the end of it, my fitness app on my phone showed we climb 52 storeys......in the rain 🤣The 3rd day, the entire mountain got really foggy that visibility was really poor, there was nothing we could do and my plan to eat at an aboriginal restaurant and trekking the tea gardens just fell throught the cracks. So we decided to drive to our next destination at the southern most tip of Taiwan and guess what... The rain didn't stop and the winds there were so strong that it almost blew us away.... so I wondered should I have lived with the fog or the wind... 🤣😅

When cherry blossoms occupied a vast expanse or line an entire road like what I saw in Japan and China, which is absolutely breathtaking. even more so with drone shots from above capturing the entire region. "Thin island" like Japan, NZ and Taiwan are easier to cover more places on its entire length from North to South though, compared to vast ones like China and the USA.

Planning on my second Japan/Taiwan trip this fall (last time solo, this time with my partner) and your vlogs have been helpful! Leaning towards doing this area should the Taroko Gorge still be closed. You're also making me consider Malaysia next year, even though I know I will suffer from the heat! Do you think you can see enough of Alishan Park as a day trip? Thinking of renting a car, spending a night in Shizhuo and catching the sunset there instead, and then visiting Alishan the next day. No ride in a cool train in the dark but otherwise seems doable.
@TalesFromOurPocket4 ай бұрын
Oh gosh, thank you so much!! Alishan is a great substitute for Taroko - we both enjoyed our forest walks there as much as Taroko (possibly even more than Taroko!). We stayed in Shizhuo after we visited Alishan. I do think Alishan can be done in a day trip from there; I'd just plan on getting an early start so you have as much time as possible. Given how dodgy the sunrise can be, it's a gamble to take that early morning train anyhow. 😂 (one of us would def try again but the other would need some coaxing!) 😁 We're glad you've found our videos helpful and inspiring - that truly means a lot to us. ✈ ❤️🙏

Hi, in Alishan, we stayed at Dafeng Villa (also sometimes called Dafang). It's "OK". Most of the reasonably priced hotels don't have heat, but do have heated mattress pads. In Sun Moon Lake, we stayed at日月潭泰湖樓 and would highly recommend it. The included breakfast was delicious! We did not reserve the shuttle from SML to Alishan. We just showed up early and were first in line. 😁
