I had a gig in Germany around this time. A bunch of us were walking around town one night when we heard some music. We walked into a night club, and there was a sea of Dieters in black light. Everyone was wearing the tight black clothes but had face makeup that flouresced in the black light. It was freakiy looking.

Mike based this on a real person he met when struggling in Toronto. He would go to a cheap restaurant and all he could afford was a hot dog, and this waiter was...Dieter. Mark talked to him quite a lot to exploit this guy for comedy "sometime later", so he kept going to the restaurant...after a few times, always ordering Hot Dogs, Dieter said "Your order has become tedious."

How is him being one of the greatest SNL cast members even a question or needs to be even taken under consideration?! He revolutionized the entire show and paved the way for Sandler, Spade & Farley for even having careers. Mike was added in 1989 after no new cast members for three years. His new "younger" vibe convinced Lorne and NBC to add new younger "exciting" performers. Enter Sandler, Spade, Farley, Rock, Julia Sweeney, Tim Meadows. Mike did that. It was also Mike who recommended Chris Farley out of Second City as discussed in the documentary I am Chris Farley. Mike Myers contributions to SNL are many he's just modest.

I won a costume contest at an obscure nightclub "Tax-Lo" in Baltimore, doing the same. I didn't show Klaus around, but the MC, Simon Phoenix, was curious enough to ask my monkey's name, and when I said "His name is Klaus", the first two rows in front of the stage screamed in a feminine, young way that would've made the Beatles envious. Back in the late 90s Mike Myers was supposed to make a movie out of this called “Dieter” with Will Farrell, Jack Black, and David Hasselhoff in supporting roles. Myers wasn’t happy with the script (which he co-wrote) so he backed out of the project. Universal studios then hit him with a lawsuit for breach of contract, to which Myers counter sued for fraud and invasion of privacy. Ultimately they agreed to drop their lawsuits if Myers agreed to do “The Cat In The Hat”.

Hasselhoff was going to play the villain in the Dieter movie and the plot involved him kidnapping Dieter’s monkey. Myers kept working on the script for a while but just couldn’t get it to work, so he just scrapped the whole project. He had just done the second Wayne’s World, which he also felt was rushed and he swore he’d never go through another experience like that again.

In regards to the various comments asking about the "original" Sprockets theme music, versus the "new" Sprockets theme music: As far as I know, Saturday Night Live never had the licensing rights to use Kraftwerk's "Electric Cafe" to begin with. Instead, the song was played at 45 RPM during the skits, as a way to try and make it slightly unrecognizable; in an attempt to avoid copyright infringement. But it clearly didn't work.

Timeless brilliance. It was good then; it's still good now; but it'll be better when the "Poke The Turk" ride finally gets built. That ride was postponed due to a lack of Turks, or sticks, or something. Maybe it was fezs. There was a crippling fez shortage around 1999, because fez fuzz factories felt financial failure. Or is it fez felt?
