These classroom lessons are excellent! Rick suggesting generalist investors can just focus on the royalty companies is something that I’ve been considering for a while now. Buying the best royalty companies when that commodity is bombed out seems like a simple way to get out sized returns vs the broad market without the mining expertise. So thanks for that answer. Keep up the great work! Don’t be afraid to really get deep into the weeds with these lessons in the future.

Hello I'm working my way through the classroom series. I found the fourth to be the most informative thus far. Just wondering how you would determine if a royalty/streaming entity has a competitive advantage over its competition? I posed this same question to another KZbin content provider and his response was to look at the production profile of the royalty assets. I was hoping you could elaborate on this. Thanks.

Regarding FNV, there are much cheaper royalty companies out there. For example, if one were to buy a share of LIF, it would cost 4 times as much on a revenue weighted basis to buy it through $FNV than it would to buy it straight from LIF.

I keep hearing from multiple sources that royalties will perform best in a high inflation environment because they don’t have the input costs that the miners have. However, I see no evidence of outperformance in the charts. Why?

What about a royalty company having positive free cash flow vs negative free cash flow? I heard Murray Stahl have a rough rule of thumb for large established royalties 22 x FCF / outstanding shares is about rough price per share. Maybe I misheard and it’s22xFCF + NCAV of the company. For example Franco Nevada I estimate NCAV $34 + $83.75 (22xFCF) = $117.75 or below is a great buy for it. For the juniors like EMX or Metalla I think he used 11X FCF. Any thoughts on this. Think I will also post this to the Rule media classroom. Keep up the great work.

I would love to see you all do an interview about what the impact on mining will be of Lula winning the election in Brazil. Also, what has been the impact so far on mining of Gabriel Boric in Chile, Pedro Castillo in Peru, and Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego in Columbia. All of these leaders have promised drastic changes in their nations which could have dramatic impacts on mining and investments in all of these nations. Please give us some expert perspectives as to what the future holds with these new leaders with respect to natural resources. Of course, it is hard to say for sure what these leaders will do but are the victories of these new leaders important considerations in whether or not to invest in these nations or even to divest current investments with heavy concentrations in these nations.
