I am so envious of this segment of your trip. Years ago, my (now-ex) husband and I traveled by train from Toronto to Ottawa, then to Quebec City, and then backtracked to Montreal on our honeymoon (the backtracking was necessary because we flew into Toronto and back home from Montreal). As much as I loved seeing the cities, the train travel ranked right up there among memorable events from that trip. My favorite train activity? Looking out the window and watching the towns and countryside. So many interesting things to see. One of these days, once the plague is over, I'll do something like that again.

I did the train from Edmonton to Truro in 2003. It was amazing back then, even without a sleeper. I loved all the stops we made, took tons of photos. Took me almost a week to get home including the bus to the ferry then the ferry then the bus home. LOL.

Economy class on this train isn't bad, either. At least for shorter trips (Winnipeg to Saskatoon), pre-Covid. You ride at the front end of the train, behind the baggage car. Yes, the Canadian offers checked luggage, subject to size and weight limits. The front Skyview dome car is for Economy, and it also has a lounge and cafe. When live cooked meals are available, they are very good, and served in take out style packaging so you can take it back to your seat. The coach seats are roomy and quite comfortable, and can be set to full lounge mode. There are tray tables and outlets for every seat, and there is even family seating available. Sleeping is possible, with the sleeping essentials kit, available at the snack bar. It contains a small blanket, inflatable neck pillow, blindfold, and earplugs. Pre-Covid, they had live entertainment daily in the lounge. These cars were actually built by the Budd company for the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1955, and refurbished by VIA Rail in 1990. Those showers were originally porter's cabins. If you look by your bedroom door, you will find a small compartment where you could leave your shoes, for collection by the porter for shining, back in the day.

G'day from downunder. Great to see both you and Mike on this segment of travelling across Canada. Looking forward to ongoing episodes and more of Mike's input from his TV series over the next month or so. As Mike might tell you, I have been following his channel since the start of the pandemic and have survived living in the most locked down city in the world, Melbourne. I have followed some of your channel too during this difficult time and, yeah, I agree that the best feature of long distance train travel is the opportunity to switch off from the digital world and concentrate on forging friendships with fellow travellers as well as enjoy the passing scenery. Thanks for posting this clip and hope you are safe and well. Cheers from Michael.

Beyond that aspect, it was great seeing a little video of Toronto, which I visited decades ago and to which I would like to return. Going up in the CN Tower was incredible.
