I really love your videos and your teaching is great! I don't want to go all school teacherish on you, but there is something that I've learned this past year that you might find interesting. There is a difference between roving and top. Roving is carded which disorganizes the fibers, while combed top is, well combed. 😂 This organizes the fibers so they are all aligned. When you are spinning yarn they create very different kinds of yarns. But for tapestry weaving purposes I can't see that it would make much difference which one you choose to use. Combed top would look smoother and shinier I think. ☺️

As to splitting the merino wool: what I found useful is I take the wool find the middle part then start pulling the roving in two parts from the middle section. Much easier and you get two even parta without too much hassle. ♥️

Hi Jennell hope you and Cody are both OK. Congratulations on reaching 6thousand Subscribers. Love the way Your Channel has Grown. I remember at the beginning of lockdown there wasn't many of us around. You Deserve to have so many of us on here. I want to say Thankyou for everything you've done. The ideas, tutorials, and the vlogs. I definitely wouldn't have got through these last 5mths while I've been in self isolation lockdown. Lockdown has finally been lifted today (22nd August). Now I'm housebound to to the weather turning wet, cold and windy. Sods law I suppose but Nevermind after all this time I think I should be used to not being able to go out. Did you ever get that Client that you showed the design and colours for. Thanks again for being here. Lots of love to you xx and Cody and your 4 pets. Xxxxxxx

Thanks as always for the time that you give showing different techniques to add to weaving. Keep weaving x keep smiling x keep safe and well x all of you x love Jen xxx PS how would you knit the Roving. You mentioned knotting it.?? Thanks again. Love to you and Cody xxx

Glad you enjoyed it! I love this colour too, it's kind of the perfect blush pink tone. Yes, so if you remember the knotting tutorial where I used cotton rope, I've seen people do that same knotting technique but with roving! You'd have to be super careful and gentle with the roving, but it looks beautiful.

@@spruceandlinen Hi Jennell thanks for the reply yeah I can imagine it being rather delicate for knotting, but love the stitches you've shown here. Thanks again. You're super talented. Hi there! I’ve just started learning to weave and your tutorials have been the BIGGEST help. I have a questions... I’m having a hard time deciding how much material I’ll need for an extra large weaving. The weaving im going to be making is going to be probably about 40in wide and 25-30in long. I’ve only done smaller weavings so far, mostly using material kits from Etsy and I just have no idea how to estimate how much I’ll need for this big piece. Any advice?
@spruceandlinen
@spruceandlinen 4 жыл бұрын
Estimating materials for big pieces can be quite a challenge for sure, it so depends on what kind of stitches you're using, how many materials you're using, and all of that. I would definitely suggest having more on hand than you think you need, and just tracking what you use for future weavings. When I did the huge piece for Lululemon I kept the tags for each ball of yarn I used as I used it so could count in the end how much I used. If you're doing a similar design to something you've done before and know the amounts for a smaller one, that could make it easier to calculate. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for this tutorial!! I’ve needed some help with roving and having it all in one place has helped so much. Also just a note - you seemed a little rushed in this video. Maybe it was just how it was edited or maybe you actually were in a rush that day. 😂 But just thought I’d let you know just in case. 😊 Congrats on 6k subscribers!!

@@spruceandlinen thank you, I meant specifically with the wool roving, how do you tuck the thick pieces in a the back? They don't really fit into a big needle.

Merino has a rather short fiber length of 3-4 inches. Correadale is 3-6", and a Coopworth is 4-8 ". Since this is not clothing, I would not use the most expensive Merino, but rather the correadale.
@spruceandlinen
@spruceandlinen Жыл бұрын
As I always say: you do you! I’m personally not a fan of the roughness of Corriedale so I use 19 micron merino because it’s beautifully soft and smooth. But that’s my personal preference, each of us gets to use what works best for us 😊
