Thank you. As a firm Spuhr fan, it’s good to know about the counterfeits that I would not have suspected otherwise. I have sold Spuhr mounts for scopes I no longer owned, so it’s good to have your video in case I’m ever challenged about whether they are genuine.

You are very welcome, I am very pleased to hear that my little video is helping folks out there. Stay tuned as a Spuhr fan. There will be some super content for you come May. If you feel I deserve a subscribe that would help me a lot, and please share with everyone, no one should accidently buy a fake Spuhr. All the best and stay safe Best regards @ELR-LONGRANGE.

Great subject. You can definitely see the milling marks in the counterfeit mount, but you wouldnt know it until you already bought it.

I have tried to focus on what I find the easiest and clear way to spot the difference when you don't have them both in hand to compare. I would say the clearest way to see is the bubble level and next after that the milling.

Also the SPUHR mount is made from 7075t6 alluminum which should be a bit more dense material, being heavier alluminum, only a Metallurgist would know.

I have both a genuine sphur and a fake. The fake looks and functions just like the genuine. What you should do is just put the price tags on them 😂. That's absolutely the most significant difference. PERIOD. the turtle neck snipers have caused the prices of just about every shooting related item to go through the roof. The folks at sphur honestly should be ashamed of themselves for the price gouging 🤷🏼‍♂️. But if we will pay it,why not gouge? Buy all the fakes you can guys before these clowns get them shut down!
@ELR-Precision
@ELR-Precision 3 ай бұрын
Well, soon enough, you will be able to get all of your gear in China 🇨🇳 Most of the cheaper scopes are made in China, and many other items shooting related. But I still do not feel it is OK to copy something someone else has spent time developing. I'm curious as to how long a fake mount will hold up to the recoil of a lage caliber rifel 🤔 I guess I'll never know 🤷‍♂️

That's exactly why I don't buy certain items second hand. I have seen this with both optics and quality knives. And it's very difficult to see a cosmetic difference other than the quality of the material and the durability over time
@ELR-Precision
@ELR-Precision 6 ай бұрын
That is also an option, i feel there are plenty of good second hand items that are real and just fine at a reduced price. But it is true, going with a retailer will keep the risk of fake items down. The bix was not the same as the original, so if there is no box with the Spuhr mount, be careful and weary.

The bottom of the fake one also has smaller lightening holes, i'd be curious to know if they weigh the same or weigh different. They may have removed less material to make it seem like a real one based on weight.
@ELR-Precision
@ELR-Precision 5 ай бұрын
The original weighs 262.85 grams. The counterfit one is 247.81 grams. The thing with lighting holes is that this is not the same mount. The real one is a SP-4302. And the counterfit one is supposedly a SP-4002. This is also stated as a disclaimer in the video. I will get my hands on the real SP-4002 and let you know. Please subscribe and share if you feel I deserve it.

You can actually buy a green bubble level straight from Spuhr as a replacement so its not necessarily a reliable sign.
@ELR-Precision
@ELR-Precision 14 күн бұрын
Yes you can, but I have never seen anyone do that. And it is still a good one to be aware of. Then look at the other signs if it is a fake or not. The best way is ti have both in hand.

I bought a fake to go on an airsoft gun, and compared it with my real ones. Pretty much the same conclusions as you. That being said, when you go to install a scope in a fake it's immediately obvious though, mine was just a tight, gritty fit to the scope where the genuine was beautifully slick until tightened down. The other giveaway is the interfaces - they're not tapered, and they're poorly toleranced on the fake, so legit accessories will fit some interfaces but not others. Awesome video though dude!
@ELR-Precision
@ELR-Precision 5 күн бұрын
And that is just what my point was. The fake is in my opinion not a good optin in any way.
@p47rr
@p47rr 4 ай бұрын
Well I received my fake. Scope slides in the mount back and forth relatively smooth. With the caps off. The caps literally snap on. Doesn’t take much pressure. But prefer not risking scratching the scope tube. Would also make it more difficult to level. Used some 400 grit paper on them. Focused mostly on the edges. Didn’t take too much time. Touched up with Birch Wood Casey Aluminum black. I don’t think that this mount can handle true factory torque spec’s. I’m going to use purple loctite on the cap screws. And Blue loctite on the cross bolts. 15 inch pounds for caps and 35 inch pounds for the cross bolts.
@ELR-Precision
@ELR-Precision 4 ай бұрын
I would not risk it. If you sand down material, that to me is not worth the risk of placing a scope in it. The risk that it is not straight would to me be too great. I hope your scope survives. Best wishes Elr-precision
@p47rr
@p47rr 4 ай бұрын
Yeah I might say the same thing but the aluminum is soft. And the caps are thin. Really only took metal off on the edges. The anodizing isn’t smooth. Didn’t even come close to taking off the finish. The accessory holes on the top caps had burrs that you could feel. So I cleaned those up. Now if the scope didn’t slide back and forth with little effort. I would be concerned. (With the caps off.) I recently bought a Discovery cantilever scope mount. The anodizing is smooth. No sharp edges. Scope slides back and forth so smooth. Normally a fifty dollar mount. But you can find one for under thirty dollars if you look. It is way nicer than the fake. I normally use Warne, Seekins or Leupold rings and mounts. But too expensive to have on every rifle. Just ordered a AR10 in 300 Winchester Magnum. Should be here on Monday. Going to upgrade some parts right away. Larue MBT straight bow trigger, LMT muzzle brake, Tubbs flat wire spring and CMMG Ambi safety selector. Thinking about install an adjustable gas key. Have to buy a staking tool. Was going to pay a gunsmith. But for what for what he charges. I can buy the tool. Family owned a Marina, Went to college to be a car mechanic. Owned a Bicycle Shop for fifteen years. So I’m very mechanical. I should have said in my last posting that I’m going to use Vibra-tite. It’s the same strength as blue loctite. But you can take apart and reassemble without having to reapply up to five times. Plus American Defense says that if you use blue loctite on their mounts it will void the warranty. So when I have a mount that I have no idea the grade of aluminum. That is what I use. For the cap screws low strength purple loctite.

@ELR-Precision 5 ай бұрын
That is a very good question. I to think they look very impressive in terms of quality. But none the less a fake is a fake and should not be sold as a genuine article. But following your question, they could have made a very good and perfectly legal mount of they would put just a few hours into make some unique mounts an retailing them as something else. But this also requires a lot of time, and I do not think the quick buck makers in China are willing to do this. I have not tested them for how true they are, and I do not have any plans doing this until someone sends me a 34mm scope I can test i with. If someone does send me a 34mm scope for testing, I will make an entire video just in the difference on the original and the fake when on a firearm with heavy recoil.

The people that did the R&D and engineering to produce a high quality scope mount are the ones that got cheated. Multiple skilled people were involved in the development only to have it stolen by a guy from china that measured it and programmed a Chinese cnc machine to get it close. The last 10% of precision and quality control is what you pay for.

The original has an inside diameter of 33.59mm and the counterfit one has an inside diameter of 33.02mm. When mounting a 34mm scope, I would personally not take the risk of squeezing my potentially very expensive scope with a cheap China knockoff mount.

@ELR-Longrange that's solid. Do you make scope ring bushings? They would probably fit better in the counterfeit 😆 🤣 😂
@ELR-Precision
@ELR-Precision 6 ай бұрын
@mobilegamersunite I would never mount a scope in bushings. I would always recommend getting the scope mount that fits the scope and use them. There are many factors that can lead to bad accuracy, might as well not make any more deliberately.

@ELR-Longrange I'm not a long range shooter but I use scope ring bushings to give my scope some more protection from vibratory shock and recoil. I've never seen it effect accuracy...but I also never take mile long shots. It would be cool to test out some day

The milling on the bottom lightening pockets on the fake are more oval also. Spuhr should have never discontinued the SP-4002. What a terrible decision.

@ELR-Precision 5 ай бұрын
I can not confirm that the milling is different as it in the disclaimer states that these are 2 different but similar mounts. I could ask Håkan Spuhr why they discontinue popular mounts when ELR-LONGRANGE visist Spuhr in Sweden the 30 of April if you like? But i think the answer might be something in the lone of, if we do not work on new things we will never develop past the point we are now. Just a guess.

I had a clone and the original. SP-3002. clone 60€ and original 320€ The clone is almost like the original, apart from a few optical exceptions. Otherwise there is no difference. I sold the original and kept the clone. The bubble level is also available as an accessory, in green. and the 2024 fake model is better and more precise than the previous model we measured it on a laser measuring machine. 100% like the original. Furthermore, it is NOT cast, but milled with a CNC machine. With one of the best China clones that ever existed

Well, you get what you pay for. The fake is smaller in tube diameter, and the material is not the same. I suspect the fakes are made from a softer, less dens material such as 6065, where the original is a harder and therefore more durable mount.

Add this company to the long list of other companies who have been ripped off. Pick any product you want. Let’s take Rolex watches. You can spend $8000 on a real Rolex or $250 on what they call a replica. For all intense and purposes, the replica is just as good as the real deal. So it comes down to a question of morality. Everybody has to decide for themselves. You might think about it this way… What if it was your company that was being ripped off?

I agrer, the company that is working hard to give us all good and solid products deserves our support. Buying counterfit, whatever the brand, only creates less innovative companies and less R&D to make new and bettet products.
