If you record directly into the drum slots, it'll chop the sample up based on the transients. If you record into a melodic slot and then copy the sample over to a drum slot, it'll chop it up into 16 chops of the same length. Can be useful if you know you already want to sample 1 bar or more and want it cut to the beat of the sample or if you want to easily pitch your sample up/down (press the pitch you want while the melodic slot is still selected and then copy it over)

Nice man I'll have to try that! Thanks
@thehamptonmenace5 жыл бұрын
Even better, you can then select a single drum hit and copy it into any single drum pad you like, in any bank you like. Select it, then hold Write + Pattern + the drum *bank* (eg 9-16) + then the drum pad (eg 1-16), then release all buttons.

I'm honestly blown away with the audio quality my op33 puts out. It's insane this little tiny board can output beats that bang as hard as this little thing.

Same yeah. I was running some into my sp last night and using some compression and they sounded much better than expected! Thanks for watching man
@knip-pink5 жыл бұрын
Avoid all that trimming hastle with your main track imports by first importing them to the melodic section and then to the drum one... that way it overrules the "smart cutting" algorithm inside the PO-33 and you get your sample perfectly divided into 16 micro samples whilst keeping the flow of the original melody !

I found out as a new user that if I want to put my hats wherever I want on the step sequencer it is best to put the sounds on individual banks. Otherwise you can add hats wherever you want. This is the most limited device I’ve ever used but fun nonetheless.
@spvidz2 жыл бұрын
I put each of my drum sounds on different banks yeah. One for kicks, one for snares and one for hats but you do have to watch out for polyphony as I think you can only have up to 4 banks in a sequence at any one time

Been watching your videos a lot lately. Was wondering if you might give the PO-33 a go as well. I got completely obsessed with mine and made two full albums on it in a matter of a few months (actually the first album only took me a week). One thing I'd suggest is still using your SP-404 sx to effect, modulate and prepare all of your samples before dumping them into the PO-33. Even though the PO is mono, adding stereo effects like reverb and delay makes it feel like it has a lot more depth. I've got a bunch of PO-33 videos on my KZbin channel and my Insta. If I can ever help answer any questions let me know. Would love to return the favor because your SP videos have helped me a ton.

Cool groove, good info. BTW, pretty sure the click is not a metronome, it's a pulse for syncing the PO33 to other gear. But good hack to get a metronome for real time recording of beats.👍

Are there other 16 level type aspects like velocity or anything? I didn’t know it could do all that, pretty impressive, really

Not really like velocity, it's just different pitches

You can adjust the volume of each bank independently and if you do that while live recording it locks the volumes to each step. That means you can texture things like hihats super easily on the fly.

Spvidz, after all these months, how much do you find yourself actually still using the PO? I got mine a year ago and love every thought of it. But I simply do not use it next to my loop station or ipad.
@spvidz3 жыл бұрын
I still use it now and again mainly because I love the auto chopping of it and the timestretching as well. Definitely a good companion to have with the SX because the timestretching on that is terrible. Have also tried using Ableton to do that which obviously works but the 33 does give it a nice texture which you don't get from Ableton!

@@spvidz theoretically, one can share Presets and Sound libraries via a compressed sound file. Is there a database where i can use the files of other people?

@spvidz I only have a MacBook, how would I transfer data from the Pocket T. E. to my MacBook?..oh yeah what app would you recommend? GarageBand?
@spvidz4 жыл бұрын
You would have to record it out of the device directly, there is no way to transfer the data off as far as I am aware. Yeah garage band will work, you will need an audio interface as well though
@Hakucho643 жыл бұрын
You can also record into QuickTime Player at a pinch, but a proper sound app like Audacity will give you all the editing options.

How to set metronome in PO33?
@spvidz3 жыл бұрын
Hold the 'record' button under the right knob then at the same time tap 'bpm' to the left of the left knob until the screen reads SY1. When you hit play you will hear a click. To turn it off do the same again until it shows SY0

You have to use the syncing feature. Hold down record and bpm and cycle through the syncing modes. One of them will give you a metronome.
