FYI, how close anime follows the manga generally depends on how long the anime runs. On one hand you have the continuous shows like One Piece which follow the source manga _and_ has to come up with additional filler material because they sometimes catch up too quickly to the latest manga story. On the other hand you have animes that are assigned only a single cour to cover big arcs, where they end up rushing through and cutting or consolidating characters. Sometimes animes have to come up with their own endings because the manga isn't finished and the anime won't continue. I'm hoping with a 2-cour season Spy x Family keeps things faithful to the manga and doesn't rush too much. Though honestly there's some side stories that they could cut if necessary, which would be a shame but understandable.
@Lowlightt2 жыл бұрын
One piece is a bit weird as an example as it doesn't really have filler. One of the core components of filler is the anime studio makes something up to pad episodes or arcs. However all of the so called filler for One Piece are actually done by the author via the crazy covers he makes each week.
@dizzyMongoose2 жыл бұрын
@@Lowlightt One Piece has plenty of anime-only filler. Very few have any manga or other non-anime basis; the only filler I'm aware of that is from an external source is the Loguetown filler, which was based on the Loguetown novel and Oda's story ideas he cut from the manga so the crew could enter the Grand Line by chapter 100. I _wish_ there was more episodes based on the manga cover stories, some of which are pretty interesting, but the only ones I know of are the Buggy Side Story and the Koby and Helmeppo Arc, both of which are considered canon and not anime filler.

@thevideo-beast1222 жыл бұрын
Anime generally follow the events of the manga faithfully, but not all anime is like that. Aside from the usual "filler episodes/arcs" that non-canon and its there to let the manga develop more story, sometimes anime will go down a completely different path because they ran out of new manga chapters to adapt. This is usually the case in older anime because it was before the time when anime is split up into seasons, but some modern anime still do that. One egregious example that I can think of, if you believe Mother's Basement (kzbin.info/door/Bs2Y3i14e1NWQxOGliatmg), if "The Promised Neverland Season 2" where it completely went off the rails and butchered the story.

Hard to believe that Anya is voiced by the same person as Chise from Mahotsukai no Yome. Then again... both roles are girls that have troubles because of being born gifted and lost at least one previous family to end up in a new family that's both weird and wholesome at the same time.... Either way, I highly recommend Mahotsukai no Yome (or The Ancient Magus' Bride in english). Absolutely worth the watch if you haven't seen it already.

Always lovely to see your reactions, guys ! I had just discovered this manga a few weeks ago, and was eargerly anticipating the anime adaptation. And that first episode didn't disappoint ! It was really well done, and I can't wait to see how they adapt the wife ! A few little points : - the first episode covers the first chapter of the manga, but not the whole book. Typically, each book has 4 to 5 chapters going on, with maybe 3-4 for the first book, since first chapters tend to be longer than usual chapters. So in the first book, we already get to know the wife. - Anime adaptations are usually very faithful to their source mangas, with sometimes some fillers episodes (or ecen seasons) crafted by the studio if they catch up to the manga that is still being published, or on the other hand, if the manga is already over or near completion, they'll condense a lot of things together so that it sometimes feels a bit rushed, but overall, it will usually follow the manga's plot quite faithfully. In some very rare instances, you'll see some series that really deviate from their source manga, either visually (like the legendary Saint Seiya, a manga /anime from the late 80's that was one of the absolute peaks of the art, which had very different looks in each versions, admittedly much better in the anime than in the manga), that I highly recommend you guys to discover ; or plotwise, like the first series of FullMetal Alchemist, which was done in 2004, when the manga was still in the middle of publishing, they quickly caught up with the manga and had to create an entire second half of the story that has nothing to do with the source manga, to the point that after massive fans outcries for years, the series was rebooted in 2009, when the manga was almost complete, to a brand new series subtitled Brotherhood, that follows the original plot much more faithfully ! Both series are also real treasures, and I really urge you to discover them to fulfill some more of your knowledge of history of anime. So we're not in a MCU type of adaptations where the filmmakers take a lot of plotpoints from various comics as ingredients and cook them to deliver an entire new dish, usually in manga adaptations, there is always a core backbone that links both medias.

Nowadays, generally, anime follow the mangas they're based on almost pretty much 100%. Like you said earlier, some parts are condensed or stretched out, or animated more...etc. But otherwise, they follow their mangas pretty closely. A decade or more ago, this wasn't always the case. There were some anime that were 'based on' manga, but didn't follow it, the characters were basically the same but the situations and plot...etc, were different. Im glad that nowadays the animes follow their mangas closely, it's a lot better. I look forward to the other Spy x Family reactions!

It depends on the anime. A number of anime are quite faithful to the source material, only changing the bare minimum if anything. Others might take a few liberties. Some change a crazy amount to where it might have the same characters, but they do on few if any of the adventures they did in the manga. Also a lot of anime don't take seasonal breaks, although that is starting to change in reason years, so they will catch up with the manga. When that happens they will ether end or make up their own story. Fullmetal Alchemist is a notable example. About half way through the anime they caught up with the manga and just started making up their own story, coming up with answers for questions that were still open. It often came up with different answers than what were eventually revealed. After the manga ended they made Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which is more faithful to the manga. However it also cut a number of the story arcs that the first anime did a mostly faithful adaptation of, including the introduction of a character who comes back later. There are other anime that go completely off the rails before long. Love Hina didn't waste any time changing things up, even removing one of the girls from the dorm so they could invent some stuff about her parents and have her join the dorm later. A lot of the changes made it slow paced. Sgt. Frog on the other hand is more of an episodic gag manga and the anime was able to put in several original stories without disrupting the flow or style of it. Some anime weren't based on manga, but got one after the fact. The ones I've read opted not to retell the anime, but use the character and put them in new adventures, although they will keep the basic plot of the story. Magical Shopping Arcade: Abenobashi stars two kids who keep getting isekaied. Typically the episode ends with them getting sent to another world and they have to run the gauntlet for what ever wacky high jinks that world has to offer as they chase down the goblin to send them to the next world, hoping it will send them home. The manga had them go to different worlds than the ones in the anime, but they were crazy all the same.
@JJ-ml7pq2 жыл бұрын
As for your question at the end regarding whether anime adaptations generally follow the source material (eg. manga) faithfully….it really depends. The first Fullmetal Alchemist anime and the Soul Eater anime, for example, adapted pretty faithfully but then went off the rails because they overtook the source material and had to make up their own stuff. Meanwhile there are works like Spy x Family, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Komi Can’t Communicate, etc that are more faithful, possibly because they started airing way after their respective manga started running and they therefore had loads more material to use.

Suffice to say, anime do not simply follow the source manga. Sometimes that's because the manga is still ongoing and they catch up too quickly. Other times, they just have to adapt a hundred volumes of manga into a dozen episodes of anime. And still other times, they just make artistic changes to make it more palatable for the audience to experience. Among other reasons. That said, it's not an absolute or anything. Some anime do follow the manga pretty closely, especially when the people making it have more leeway to work with.

Usually an anime episode needs 2-3 chapters of manga to be paced well, obviously depending on the genre and the individual manga. Manga is not that far off from a storyboard so depending on who owns the rights, it can act as a rough storyboard.

Hm, so Episode 1 really did only cover Chapter 1, not that i wouldn’t understand why, with a length of 70 Pages Spy x Family Chapter 1 might the longest Manga Chapter i ever read, though this kind of makes me wonder how Episode 2 will do about covering the Chapter(s)? Based on the short little Preview and 2’s Episode Title, it would seem like Episode 2 will might just be covering Chapter 2 (the same way Episode 1 only covered Chapter 1), which would be understandable since Chapter 2, might not be as long as Chapter 1, it’s still the second longest Manga Chapter i ever read with 55 Pages, Hm, but still, since Chapter 2 is still shorter than Chapter 1, maybe Episode 2 will then have a little more room to breathe? ‘Cause as good as Episode 1 was, i felt like it went a little too fast within it. Well, just have to wait and see, i guess🤷🏻♂️.
