Grate tutorial I do find though that the automatic way takes more values into account like white balance and skin tones; so it's not precisely what it should be on the vectorscope, it's generally a more accurate image to what your eye sees but to be fair isn't really technically correct. But when I match different cameras the automatic way usually makes them look more the same then the manual way shown here. After doing some digging it turns out that this colour checker is made for photography and dosent lineup with the vector scope and isn't supposed to. It's accurate but to a different scail (don't ask what scail I don't know). the automatic correction sets for this. Meaning that the lines won't match up because there not supposed to, but they are all lined up in auto to there incorrect but ture to life colours. So in the test the automatic styeme wasn't wonge the checker was. This is fine though because the quality control on this product is grate, so they are all precisely the same amount off; so are still a good refance but only to Spyder colours.

What checker is designed for video? And not for photo?
@fireice25852 жыл бұрын
The manual method will not work because the 5 color on the spyderchecker use different hues than the 5 box on the vectorscope. So you're basically matching apple to orange.

yes, this chart is not to be used with hue/sat menu.

THANK YOU!!!! I think this was the clearest and easiest to follow explanation on how to manually correct color using a color checker. Very nicely done tutorial.

But what about he OTHER colors on the Spyder 24 chart. Has some made a Vectorscope guide to show us where the ideal targets are on the scope for those OTHER Colors?

Well done tutorial 👏 I'm not really sure but I think the colors are unevenly saturrated on purpose but if it helps you as a starting point I guess it'll do. keep up the good work! cheers

What you are missing: With this technique you train your continuousness to recognize the subjective appearance of color through a reference point while your brain can do the same thing on its own by training. If you learn this way, you will have a hard time making intuitive decisions. This reference point technique is usefull if you work for a small production part in big projects where different companies have to process the material independently. But if you want to be a master of your craft you have to flex your spirit ;) And there are ways to do that correctly. If you are interessted than contact me. Im happy to share my knowledge of focusing continuousness and flowstate. Al the best to you and keep up the good work! Live to learn and learn to live!!!!

Sorry to say but you will not get accurate results by adjusting the colors manually in vectorscope. This is due to the fact the primary colors in the Spydercheckr chart do not and never were intended to match the SMPTE standard colors used in the vectorscope.

Thank you for your input. I hade a nother comment that sade the same thing you do and I belive your correct. Even if the manuel way are not the most correct way to do it. As long as it is the same every time, you at lest have a basic referens. So all clips is the same and for me thats the moste important part. But I will tray out the automatik way if that givs the most acurate result. 👍

Here's the chart colors in sRGB color space according the only internet source I could find (Datacolor has removed the documentation from their pages). You can compare these values to the vectorscope target colors to see how much they differ for a point of reference. I believe the chart was intended for photography use and works best with the Datacolor software for creating a color profile. These profiles should be available to be imported into DR as well, for the best accuracy (see for instance Mark Galer on the subject). C 0, 127, 159 M 192, 75, 145 Y 245, 205, 0 R 186, 26, 51 G 57, 146, 64 B 25, 55, 135

You are 100% correct. It is a shame that BlackMagicDesign don't allow you to add alternative patches into your vectorscope so people can use this bad tool correctly. NOTE that if you do the automatic correction using the Spyder settings then resolve WILL do the correction accurately.

I'm seeing people say that it's not working well with Vectorscopes and that it's for photography, despite mentioning video on the site. If so, since this video, has this now been fixed/worked around in their software or the latest DaVinci Resolve (e.g. via a new feature) or is it still not aligning accurately? Not sure why they are marketing it for video.

Always do it manually and don't allow yourself to get overwhelmed. It's super easy and you will definitely get better results. The automated way never works for me. After setting my exposure and white balance, if I try to use the Auto way, it ruins my image.
