I can't say I was expecting the designer of the Amalgam to watch/comment on my upload! Thank you for watching! It's a really cool design. I'm very much looking forward to the future of this model 🙂

If you don't use the knife as an EDC and only use it to do a review....... yes, it is quirky and it is different than many other knives and there is a learning curve. But if you use it regularly and as an EDC you develop muscle memory and it becomes one of the fastest and best systems Spyderco has ever made. It took me about a week or so of flipping and closing many times a day for it to become "The Knife" in my collection. It may not be a very popular knife because people don't usually have a lot of patience when it comes to "getting used" to a knife but I think it's one of Spydercos best efforts. No changes please.

If It takes you a week to get used to a flipper knife, the knife is junk. A flipping knife is probably one of the most simple mechanical designs in history besides the wheel.
@unacarafea567
@unacarafea567 2 ай бұрын
@@JohnLennon-yg4ut Simple mechanical design does not mean easy to use in half an hour. If you want to use a knife immediately, use a chefs knife or a Bowie. Becoming proficient with a knife can definitely take a week or even more. Playing around like child with it and being impatient will frustrate you and make you call it junk.

I was about to pull the trigger and then you pointed out the lefty issues when closing and I may not even order one anymore! (Good lookin out!) UPDATE*** I ordered it, I LOVE it!! I cannot get enought of this knife. As a lefty I treat the flipper tab as like a 2/3 stop on a slip joint and as a righty its a non issue.

I dropped my Amalgam when I bought it. That was due to the flipper tab smacking my index finger. It didn't take long for me to adapt though. Now, I don't even think about it. I love the Amalgam. I've noticed that this lately, if I'm not handling my Shaman, I'm playing with my Amalgam most of the time. To me, it's practically perfect. I don't mind the weak detent, I don't run my index finger when I light switch the knife and I'm really comfortable closing the knife.

Ok just go this knife and i now get what Metal Complex is on about at 16:40. So why is there such a hard angle tooth on the front of the compression tab, could it not be a smooth curve like the back of it??? I haven't found a mechanical reason for that hard angle or am i missing something... LAI?

I cant think of any type of remedy, though I will say this: many times I have been frustrated with some feature of a new knife, and through gritted teeth, I carried it anyway. After a week or 2, I hardly noticed the things that bothered me in the first place. If you really want to love the Amalgam, give it some pocket time. Your hands will adjust to the light detent over time. Hope that helps

@@tymondo316 you can get brave and Dremel the detent hole so the ball sits lower in the hole. I've heard of ppl doing this successfully but I'd be super careful because if the hole is too wide the blade will rock when it's closed. I have one and I love it. The detent isn't that bad. But it is light.

I would'nt buy it for a few reasons. Origin,...price,...Hinderish with flipper totally not like any other Spyderco, I know of. I'd buy the Spyderco Manix 2XL way before id but the Amalgum. Mater of fact I actually bought the Manix 2XL in 2015 that I still own and love!! Or I'd go with the Para 1 made in Ametica without doubt!! Even the Zero tolerance 0770 (which I as well own) would be a better choice IMO🗡🗡 One more thing Id buy an American made Kershaw before I buy that knife hands down🗡🗡 Great review,..love you show,...watch it constantly just not too fond of this particular knife my friend🗡

Seems to me they didn’t Go4It Why use the cheaper peel ply and oversees on a breakthrough design Spyderco using a flipper with real cf,made in Colorado,cpm steel,wire clip at$200 out the gate would have brought the house down
