Another awesome video. Got a question for you do you ever have any regret buying the zircuti scales for the shaman? I love zircuti and would love to do that to my pm2 with dlc coated s90v blade but man those scales are so freaking expensive. Is the quality of the zircuti there to justify the price.

I absolutely love the native family of knives, but I can see how they aren’t appealing to everyone and how other lockbacks in the Spyderco lineup cut into its market share.

I own several models from spyderco and have spent quite a bit of time cutting with all of them. The native 5 is a smart efficient design without spyderco's trademark hump but I came across a few issues . First the handles are a bit short and for people that have larger hands holding the native isn't exactly ergonomic as say a shaman, pm2, stretch or mannix. Secondly the native blade is a bit short in length coming under 3 inches. I also find it often gets caught up while cutting material's because of the foward finger choil interfering with the blade path.

Spyderco has got to be pound for pound the best knife company around. Their prices have been inflated but you can’t deny their build quality and their insane ability to make any blade steel into a decent to amazing cutting tool.

Gaintmouse by far is better. Hogue is better. Try getting magnacut from Spyderco. Try getting a Shaman in a steel you want besides s30v. Try getting a fair price…unless you thing $100 for VG10 delica is a deal.

Thank you for this well-thought-out video. Totally appropriate to consider prices when ranking these knives since most of us have to consider prices when making a purchase. In that vein, the Japanese Spyderco’s held their prices steady this year, which may make this the last place to find some really solid values.

The Manix 2 is my favorite Spyderco, the ball bearing lock is genius design that in my opinion just feels more positive than crossbar/axis locks style locks, I put flytanium ti cages in my standard G10 and lightweight which is unnecessary but elevates the whole feel, great knives.
@AlexsKnivesSuch

Axis locks or Axis style locks break way to easily then the ball lock. I have the Manix 2. Will change the ball cage and scales to copper. Only Benchmade knives I want someday is the freak or mini freak & the Osborne with the green scales. Otherwise Benchmade knives are way to pricey for the springs to break from fidgeting or over time of usage.

I put AWT scales on my Manix 2 and what a difference. For me, it went from a knife that I wasn't sure I would keep to my favorite knife. I also upgraded the internals to a ceramic ball bearing and a spring that is a bit easier to use.

Yay!! Spyderco video!! I agree with the Para 3 being number one ❤ it’s so good it’s the only knife model I have multiples of; I have one lightweight, one s45vn g10 and one DLT cruwear and purple g10. One of the things I love about it is how customisable they are, all three of mine are decked out in custom scales, clips etc. the lightweight has AWT aluminium scales on it which only increase the weight by .1 of an ounce and make it feel so much more premium (but I actually really liked the way they did the FRN on the Para LW), my s45vn Para has AWT aluminium scales which actually reduce the weight via a liner delete and a black MXG clip and then the cruwear one has purple haze fat carbon with a bronze lynch clip

I just bought a Para 3 LW in SPY 27 and a Mini Griptillian in the Modified Sheepsfoot as a comparison. The Para 3 was the winner for me, it fits in my hand so well and the out of box feel of the compression lock was awesome. The mini grip was a bit heavier feeling due to its smaller size. The Para 3 also disappeared into the pocket better.

Love Spyderco for 2 main reasons 1) range of steels they use & 2) the quality of their heat treatments. Yes (of course) they have some good designs - look at this list to start! I have most of this list. Haven't purchase any recently as they have become $$$. Currently my most used Spyderco is my Manix 2 - can tackle almost any task. A bit bulky but offset is great ergos. Still have my first Spyderco - a Tenacious. Still going strong after 10 years - although blades shows signs of repeated sharpening! Sharp blades all.

Good review. The Bradley folder is probably my fav. The carbon fibre laminat is soooo much better than just a slab of carbon fibre when it is sitting on top of the frame. When the sides are exposed it looks so much cleaner and neater, when the carbon fibre is inset there isn't a real difference. The ZT0562CF has a solid slab of carbon fibre sitting on top of the frame with the edges exposed and it looks terrible. Just cheap and nasty. If it looked as good as the Gayle Bradley I would have loved it but so far it is the only knife in my collection that I have modified when I swapped over the scale for blue G10.

First off, love your channel, funny you should say that about the material, is it for everyone, no, but I picked one up at a flea market along with a Benchmade Bedlam, at an ABSOLUTELY INSANE price of $175 ,,,FOR BOTH. Mine WAS the matriarch 2 the serrated version, was because I lost it dang it, but it was one of my hard use knives at work, cutting thick plastic straps, rope, boxes. My wife bought me a Spyderco spydeyshark though pretty much the same blade with serrations and now replaced the matriarch, it's a great knife but the H1 steel the edge doesn't last near as long as the VG10. I use to not be able to stand serrated knives till my matriarch and with the claw shape of the blade it doesn't slip off or out of anything. Also people check pawn shops as I've acquired several higher dollar knives for less than half price, one of my latest was a Spyderco Civilian for $80 , it was probably used once from the two scratches on the tip of the blade plus in that use they snapped off about a 1/16th to an 1/8th inch of the tip which was easily fixed, for that price I don't mind slight damage, got a Spyderco Szabo for like around $125, check the price if you can find one on one of those now. Anyways, thanks for your awesome channel stay safe and God bless.

While I agree the price hikes suck, one thing that takes the sting out of them is that I know it’s a “knife for life”. The Spyderco folders I picked up in 98/99 are still chugging along nicely. I have yet to experience that same long term durability across the board from most other makers.

First of all, I love your videos, watch them all the time. Well,,, I'm the bigger knife fan, got my eyes on the Yojumbo and the Native Chief. I have a few ànd about half are from pawn shops, you can get absolutely AMAZING deals, recently bought a Civilian for $80 had about 1/6" of the tip broke off, didn't care, barely used other than that, I just ground the tip back to a point and resharpened it, barely noticeable. Get this, bought a Matriarch and a Benchmade Bedlam at a flea market, pakage deal for $175. Have unfortunately lost the Matriarch, one of my most used knives at the time for cutting thick hard plastic straps at work and various other tasks, it was the serrated without the wave. Since have been replaced by the Spyderhawk H1 serrated my wife bought me. Have the Manix 2 XL she bought me also, it's my second one, gave the first one to a friend and I bought that one at a flea market for a CRAZY $50 brand new in the box. Guys, check these places out and regularly, especially pawn shops with bigger hunting departments in them. Bought a Szabo for like I think $125-150 purely for investment as though it's a bigger blade but not a huge fan of it and I believe they're around $400-550 I've seen now since being discontinued and gave it to my oldest son, an Endura 4 not the flat grind version plain blade for $50 had one small nick 18" from the tip, regrind and resharpen, wouldn't know it if you didn't know, and a Chinook 3 a few year ago for $120 prety much brand new, resold it to a friend taht had to sell his once and regreted it. I use to couldn't stand Spydercos because they all pretty much looked the same, a leaf shaped blade with a hole in,BUT,,, when I bought my first one the Manix 2 XL at the flea market and got to messing with it I WAS HOOKED LOL. IF it's still there the next time I go to this one pawn shop it has another Manix 2 XL, last time I checked it was $80 but can probably get it cheaper I'm snagging it, practically new. Knives are an ADDICTIVE HOBBY LoL. At these prices WHO CARES ABOUT THE WARRANTY, but they'd probably maybe honor it anyway. Look around guys, be patient and look pretty regular, and you'll find ridiculous deals. Stay safe and God bless.

Big fan of the Large Bob Lum Chinese folder. Blade angle , ergos and the blade shape itself . It’s my daily in Hap40.

I'd make the case for the Stretch 2, specifically in K390. Great blade shape (very similar to PM2), one of the best blade steels out there, and it comes in at around $150. It's similar to the Endela, but the handle on the Stretch is more comfortable. Yeah, it's FRN and a back lock, but if you can get past that....

I think the Stretch 2 K390 should be #1. I prefer back locks actually. There's something about that snap that appeals to me. I got over fidget factor a long time ago.

Back locks give the best full handle confort. 100% for the stretch 2, a good size knife you can eat with, that is not all spydies...

I have hands on experience with 5 out of the 10 knives in the video. My list would definitely have to have the Slysz Bowie on it, and the Drunken would probably be there too. Also pretty confident that some of the ones I haven't used I would like more than the Yojumbo

damn i’m EARLY to this one 😂 i’m used to seeing “3y ago” in description 😅 but i have a neon green 20cv para 3 otw rn and i am so excited for it to get here. i recently got a manix 2 g10 and it’s literally replaced all my other knives except for my hogue deka when i need something lightweight like going for a super quick trip. any other time though i’m reaching for my manix 100% my favorite knife i’ve owned so far.

I started collecting a few months back. I have found some great little knives for under $50 each. Dozens of them in fact. My only Spyderco is a Resilience. I think I paid around $75. I love the knife and would like to have a few more Spydercos, but since they are so very pricey I don't know if I want to spend my whole knife budget on them. I might spring for a couple more including the Para 3, but they are just too costly to consider a large collection when there are so many cheaper quality knives out there.

My preferences are; Manix 2 (modified), and Sage 5 LW. I just think the Sage 5 looks sooooo much nicer than the Para 3. Once I picked up a Sage 5, I’ve yet to put the Para 3 back in my pocket!

Great stuff as always, MC. I can’t say I’ve watched every single one of your videos (there’s a lot), but I was wondering if you have any love for “grandpa” knives or have any in your collection? I love modern EDC knives, but I also enjoy traditional pocket knives - stockmans, canoes, trappers, barlows, and such.

I think the upcoming Spyderco Tenacious in CPM-M4 is very interesting. I also very much enjoy the Spyderco leaf jumper in K390. The Delica, Endela, Endura, stretch and leaf jumper are what I think of when i think the soul of spyderco, all of which are available in K390, which really bumps up the edge retention over 99.9% of all other knives made.... All of which are under $145 in top trim as well Also that 15V Manix in full Ti is what my dreams are made of. I prefer the manix to the PM2

I bought the S90V Para 3 lightweight and swapped out the teal scales with the AWT aluminum ones and replaced the wire clip with a Lynch clip. There’s nothing functionally wrong with the factory scales, I’m just not a fan of teal. I love the knife so much I got one for my dad for Father’s Day this year. I’ll wait to see if he likes the scales before I swap the ones on his.

Kapara is my favorite!!! Wish they do a new version in LC200N!! The ergos are perfect, looked a bit odd at first but grows on you. Carbon Fiber scales are beautiful, too. Only want to mod the tip a bit, to reverse tantoesque. BTW, interestingly I recently got the Lil Temperance 3LW as a sub 3”, legality most places folder knife, for the sheer brute force in compact size. I think of it as a “Mini Shaman”, lol. Please, do a review on this one?!?! K390 seems so awesome!!

Just bought the scorpion para 3. Would have preferred a sage 5 in anything other than s30v (for the price they’re asking). I’d honestly put the sage 5 at #1 but with the limited options it doesn’t make sense. Great list, thanks!
