I do believe most people just got the whole point of the finger choil wrong. It's NOT for hardcore use, it's for precision cutting, detailed wood carving, etc. If you want to cut tires or anything of similar resilience, use the handle as it's meant for that. 🙄

Sharpen it a few times, get through the fatigued steel at the edge, and it should hold an edge better. It's pretty well known that edges from the factory are usually burned because of power sharpening, especially with harder steels like Rex45, but even S30V is shown to be susceptible, which is why most people think of it as chippy. And the nub that is on the choil is there to keep your finger off the edge. you get rid of it, your hand can slide up easier. Sal doesn't do anything on his designs without a reason. And you might want to use a more sturdy surface than a tire to beat on, it will absorb too much energy. Good video though, nice to see someone actually doing things with the knives rather than just talking about them! I have a tendency to chop and whittle random sticks in the yard when out with the kiddo. Good fun! I have a strop, but I don't use it much. I've found that my edges are just as good off my Spyderco Fine as they are when using my strop. Still testing though, so it's not conclusive. I really just wanted a strop to help get the last bits of burr off, and so far it seems to do well with that. For touch ups I just use my stones.

I'm really impressed. I've got a standard Shaman in S30V and I'm thinking of getting another one with a DLC coated blade. Looks really mean with a black blade. Blade geometry is the same as the REX45. I guess the only difference will be in edge retention. REX45 has so much more edge retention than S30V.

@mickeypopa2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say so. Looks to me that trying to cut the steel bead on the tire ruined the edge. Not surprising though, as the steel bead on the tire is meant to withstand much stronger forces and abuse than a mere pocket knife. Not to mention the fact a pocket knife is a completely wrong tool for that particular job i.e. you're supposed to use an angle grinder. Furthermore, batoning on the wood branch set against the rubber finished the job as far as edge is concerned because the rubber absorbs the impact force so you dull the edge without achieving cutting.

You cutting the tire wrong, the inner circle has metal bands ring that’s you can only cut with a grinder or big bolt cutter. Then the thread top part you are cutting made of many wires that go around the whole tire. Where you wanna cut is just under where the thread meets the side wall. Thats where you stab when it has no air in it .That’s the part most people are cutting that are cutting tires.

Hey man I'm sorry this is unrelated to the video but I have a question regarding the loudness of the skullcandy crusher wireless. Since you like ear-splitting loudness, can it achieve that? And what would you say its volume compares to? What would you say their loudness compares to? I've tried sennheiser momentum true wireless gen 1, Sony wf-1000 xm3.

So....i liked your video for a few reasons. First of all: you gave your impressions on the knife without working with it and when you did work with it you kept making commentary. I think that is how things should be usually. I'd like to hear further thoughts you have on this one. I bought one a while ago and i said that, before i make my review of it I will watch some opinions others have. Usually I don't. That edge seemed high. Mine came with a lower edge angle. Mine is S30V so I know what to expect but i won't expect too much because of the thick edge. Yeah man! You should get one of the less expensive knives and try those things with it! Then see how the Shaman compares. I noticed you have not made videos in a while...hope you get back into it! Very few honest reviewers these days and I would really like to see/hear your thoughts! Have a great day!
