Both are excellent. Got my Shaman when it first came out, $150. Have a deep carry clip on both. Have to agree with the winner here, the superfreek is my favorite Benchmade. Wish I had been able to pick up the micarta Shaman but boy did they go fast. I have an s90v, carbon fiber Shaman, nib that I'm trying to sell for the right price.

Solid review. It is a tough call for me. They both have pros and cons and in the standard variations I'd have a tough time making the call between them.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING BRIAN! Awesome comparison between two items I really dig the looks of. I was skeptical of the compression lock as I'm a lefty, but after watching apostle p got over the fear posibility. But now, I see it has a little nub that can possibly prohibit or hamper proper closure, so for that I'd have picked the super freekly weekly, deekly. Besides the fact that it looks demonic in coloration with that pointy demon tail clip. Wish that deep carry had the same shape or a curve in it like a tail. Thanks for the upload.

Good video. One point I think should be made is that the people who have issues with Benchmade QC are not willing or prepared to adjust anything on their knives. In my opinion, everyone should know how to do the basics of assembly and adjustment. Unless you’re a total goon, and blade centering and play can be easily fixed in a couple of minutes with a torx driver. There are tons of videos on how to do that...guess where.

I have switched to quality small fixed blades for every day carry , and have a small folder as a extra knife in pocket. The Spyderco Shaman is a nice knife however Spyderco has turned it into a frenzy in the sprint runs. It has become like a drug addiction for collectors and to resell on ebay for twice the cost that is all . It is a expensive knife as is for a folder in my opinion $200.00 plus , the compression lock is not the strongest it should have a mid back lock like the Spyderco Native Chief which is a better knife for hard use for a folder . The small fixed blades I have and recommend are - LT Wright Next Gen , LT Wright Switchback , Shenk knives Osprey , Great Eastern Cutlery H10 , H30 and H40 fixed blade hunter series , LT Wright Frontier Valley , White River knives M1 Caper or backpacker version, Bradford Guardian 3.5 3D fixed blade , Lionsteel M4 M390. All these are great less expensive quality fixed blades easy to carry everyday . No worries of dirt or lint like in folding knives no worries of a broken blade or failed lock due to grime inside if used as a outdoor field knife. A folder is more concealable that is about it. Do not get touchy or hurt feelings Just my thoughts and opinion buy and use what you like.

Im a benchmade fan but i broke two omega springs that were less than a year old. Kind of makes me hesitate to trust that lock long term with fidgeting and hard flicking

Chief? Nice job on the review, I would have a difficult time picking a favorite with these two as I have the M4 Shaman which was $199.00 which I thought made it a better valve. But I couldn't stand the clip and took the folder apart to sand the edges and I also took a little sharpness off the edge of the Spydie hole, I didn't do anything to the Freek.

I know this is two years old, but I am trying to figure out which is the better buy now… The Shaman now has Micarta and M4 steel. Both are around the same price @ $225 for the freak and $259 for the new Shaman. I think they are both $100 higher than they should be, but it is what it is. So, what do you think??

I’d be interested in seeing a battle to the death between the Shaman and the the AD-10. They strike me as fairly similar “hard use” knives of similar size with comparable materials.

I agree the Freek is a better knife & I have way more Spyderco in my cases than BM's. I actually returned a Shaman because that choil tab annoyed me on a knife at that price! Also the freek is So Awesome Looking/ LoL

For those watching this in 2020 the Shaman is now $202.00 and the Super Freek is still $191.75 so the value definitely goes to the Freek. I own and love both but the Freek is a clear winner if you can only have 1 and BMs warranty is heads above Spydercos IMHO

Great video, I have the BHQ Shaman M4 DLC (you can see my video on my page), I need to get the Super Freek next. I liked it in the knife shop but I liked the Griptilian 551-1 slightly better. That might change over time but they have similar color schemes, they both pop really nice with the different center color and anodized aluminum spacers. Subbed.

IMO- Shaman is such a better looking blade, and the best ergos. Washers make it more hard-core than the benchmade bearings. I love the super freak but .. Shaman all day.

IMHO Spyderco Shaman all the way. Freak verses Hogue Ritter RSK, Ritter wins. I am trying to get used to the Benchmade Bugout, it is the smallest locking blade knife I own.

Both great knives. I don't have a Super Freek yet, but I need to get one for sure. I have the BHQ Shaman in M4, and I really like it, so much in fact, that I'm thinking of springing for a regrind to thin it out bte. I'm thinking of going down to around .015 or so. Were it thinner and slicier, it would be a fantastic knife instead of just a very good knife. Even though I don't have the Freak, I'd still have to agree with your assessment, at least as far as the stock models. If there could be only one, I'd pick the Freek as well. You should see the PM2 Tanto from BHQ they sent me, ive never seen so many blatant problems with a knife before, especially an exclusive. Straight heartbreaking. Spyderco can't do anything, because its an exclusive and they don't have replacement blades laying around and BHQ will only offer a refund, as they sold out in hours. So basically I get stuck with a lemon

My options would be slim if I didn't carry every knife that cut me, lol. I understand though..believe me I do! I've had a few nasty ones, including slicing the tip of my thumb off with my Opinel while cutting onions. Getting onion juice in a fresh open wound is not pleasant, and I've seldom used that Oppie since, lol.

A little afraid. My brother just got a super freak and it has bad lock stick. If you flip it open you almost need a pliers to release the lock.

Three years later and both these damn knives are sitting in the $250 range 🤦🏼‍♂️😞 The only plus in these BS prices day and are we live in now is that Spyderco gives a much better discount to LE and Military so the Shaman is a much better deal if you qualify for the discounts. I’m a huge Spyderco fan so I’m going with the Shaman (I have a gorgeous M4/Micarta Shaman) but I do have to say that benchmade is a really nice piece and a fairly good deal for those greedy pieces of 💩. I mean you’re talking about a company that has $300+ S30V knives. Granted you’ve got about a 50/50 change of it showing up dull and crappy but for me the edge isn’t a huge deal because I generally throw my own edge on everything including my razor sharp Spyderco’s. No matter how good the factory edge is, I can always get it better.
