The distance between the blade and that first "finger partition" is actually shorter on the yojumbo than it is on the yojimbo 2's handle. I believe the intention was for us to choke our hand down one finger partition, so your middle and ring fingers share a scallop. Choking down makes the handle's backstrap flush with your palm, and angles the blade tip forward for self defense purposes.

I just ordered the Yojumbo in the new murdered out black blade and hardware! Can't wait to break it in. But after watching your example of how it looks after modding it yourself, I'm thinking of doing the same. I've got a brand new rotary tool that'll do the trick. Actually bought my first Spyderco ever last month which is the PM2 Cruwear w/smooth g-10 all black. And I'm waiting for the PM3 all black tanto to show up any day now. Next will be the all black Shaman and the all black Manix2. I'd love to get the Smock in all black version if ever produced as well. So, been watching every video on the Yojumbo! Thanks for posting!

Hi Bob, came across this a bit late in the day, intend too eventually getting one, nice knife. A method I use to alleviate too much 'bite' between clip and pocket is to level out the area under the clip with something we have over here in England called Milliput - a two part epoxy resin which comes in assorted colours including black. The area to be treated is masked off with tape following the 'lines' or 'peaks' of the G10. Milliput is then applied to the area up to the top of the depressions and carefully levelled off and smoothed with the aid of water. When dry the Milliput can be carefully sanded and brought level with the peaks of pattern, can also be polished to virtually a mirror finish - no friction with clip also contacting scale at same 'height'. Also looks smart and I think enhances the appearance. I use this method on all my Yojimbos. Milliput, being a two part epoxy resin sets rock hard and is durable. Worth a try as nothing is 'lost' on the scale, all best, AL.

Not for regular use, but I have broken Yojimbo tips by dropping them, so I am certain I could do the same to this without trying.
