in 1979 having heard nothing but the pop music we were fed, I was walking to work, aged 17 when I heard Morning Dance on a tiny cassette player on the small electric cart the milk delivery guy used - it changed my life At 62 now I have verything they ever did and of course they led me to Grover Washington, Ronnie Laws, and little by little, to Miles Davis, Bill Evans The Brubecks, etc My 28 yr old son continues and enhances the journey - one chance moment and a lifetime of joy Thank God or whoever loves you

It's a summer's night in the mid 1980's We're camping in the Namib Desert. A deep black sky shimmering with the jewels of the great milky way. Onto our 3rd bottle of 1927 KWV Port ... and Spyro Gyra booming over the oldest dunes in the world. Can't get closer to heaven than that.

That put on a great show, also the lighting mixing guy did his best to put in the best light and he knew all the kicks. Afterwards we all went out to have a pizza together. As a child growing up in the 70's, I was introduced to a wide range of music. The very first time I heard morning dance, I was twelve years old and wasn't knowledgeable of music theory at the time, but remember thinking, this song had the absolute best tone I had ever heard. I never knew the name of the song, but the local movie theater would play it before the movie to adjust the sound (pre thx assuming) Flash forward to a week ago when the song came on KZbin and I finally caught the title. Thank you gentlemen for creating a masterpiece in sound unmatched still today and thank you for keeping this song alive. Very nice to come across this social distancing video, I actually teared up listening to this beautiful song medley when you started morning dance 🙏🙏🙏

We in Toronto, Canada were treated with an annual summertime visit by Spyro Gyra at ONTARIO PLACE FORUM, in the early days. An outdoor, grassy, concert bowl park on Lake Ontario. The players were awesome with great chops, and super entertaining! The percussionist would scissor-kick his symbols with his toe as he leaped in the air. The steel pan, and MARIMBA solos give Morning Dance such a cool, island-earthy vibe. I played it in high school Jazz Band, 1980. Thanks so much! 😀

I bought the album, "Morning Dance" on a complete whim without knowing anything about Spyro Gyra or their music and I ended up listening to it non-stop until I bought, "Catching The Sun". You're making some of us feel old, ;) I remember first few albums Tom Schuman had an afro... a white guy, lol. He's slendered down and looks more distinguished. Miss the old band mates though. Changes are necessary with time.

I’ll never forget the first time I heard Spyro Gyra; very early 80’s, Sony Walkman cassette player, warm early Fall day in John Bryant State Park Ohio, Freetime; my soul was filled for the first time by the sounds that caressed my ears.

Sweeeet memories of our little fam circa mid ‘80s during beach camping trips in our old dodge van and always striking up a joyful dance in the sand first thing in the morning to these tunes. Kids are grown, memories are fresh. Good stuff still.

Saw these guys back early 80’s as a young trumpet player. So smooth and tight and still keeping it together years later. They ‘make’ music, not just play it. Stay safe all of you.

I really don't remember when I started listening to this group but it's been more than 30 yrs, that's for sure! If I'm down, they bring me up. If I'm up, they make me swing slowly at first and then joyfully. They are my spiritual medicine in all cases and moods, for me at least! Thanks, Spyro Gyra for bringing light into my life.

I've been listening and enjoying Spyro Gyra's musical talents since I was a teenager. I'm now a little over 60-years old and I've gotta say... their music doesn't get old! I love the catchy rhythmic feel and melodies. Very musical as always along with a very tasteful approach making you always wanting more. Happy to hear and see that these kook kats are still making awesome music.. this is certainly some of the best ear candy sounds out there! Thank you for taking the time to record this from your homes and posting this so that we can further enjoy in our own homes.

I had the chance to see BST at the Infinity Hall a few years ago and was able to see the band after. I told them thank you for bringing me back to much simpler time in life. I know they understood!! I'm 62 now and they were awesome!!!!

It’s great isn’t it. Music is like that oily water the Alchemists talked about as the first matter. From a basic material a near infinite myriad of forms, and we all bump heads over to make something beautiful.

I covered Morning Dance with my high school jazz gang over 30 years ago --- I can close my eyes and finger every sax note still today, though I haven't picked up a horn since. Love you guys!

I first heard about the band in 1978. Jr in high school. Recorded your shaker song off the radio. Saved Aluminum Cans, cleaned neighbors pool, mowed lawns to get the money to buy “Spyro Gyra!” Shaker, Mead, Opus, Mallet heck the whole Album… Was an incredible to me. I couldn’t wait for your next Album. When it came, I was so looking forward to concert appearances on the west coast. Everyone remembers, their where abouts and the things going on in their life by the music being played at that particular time of their life. S.G. released music for me that marked time in my life. I even went to Catalina Island for a concert. Thank You and May God continue to bless your creative influence you have put in the lives of everyone who listens to your music. May you Shake it up for many years to come.🎉

I've loved your all's music ever since I was a waiter at the Sundial restaurant on Sanibel Island in Florida and you all were playing in the bar back in the late 70's. I got to listen to you several times a week way back then, and a few years later there you were giving a small concert at a large bar in Gainesville where I was studying at UofFla, and the albums started coming out, and I just kept buying and loving them. Thanks, guys for sharing your incredible talent. Very nice indeed! Saludos from Zihuatanejo.

Isn't that where Andy Dufresne and Red ended up? How is their boat coming along???
@joeheid47574 жыл бұрын
@@dylanchangedeverythingfore1312 Yep. Red took a bus to Florida via Fort Wayne, Texas.
@azuetense4 жыл бұрын
@@dylanchangedeverythingfore1312 HA! In the film the boat scene was filmed at Sandy Point in St. Croix in the USVI, by coincidence a place I lived back in the early 70's. Although Stephen King says it's a work of fiction, there are parallels with real life including two ex-convicts, one named Red but the other named Henry, who came to Zihuatanejo during the 60's and fell in love with local girls. Life is even stranger than fiction. I believe you can see "the boat" in one of my videos here. Saludos. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ3IkHiPZ8-NfMU
