When I was 16 I remember listening to Spyro Gyra in my bedroom and being inspired as I learned to play the sax. Fast forward 43 years later…I now play bass and sax. Still being inspired by these wonderful artists. Thanks Spyro Gyra!

Jay Beckenstein is the PERFECT Smooth Jazz sax player - never overplays, always plays exactly what's needed and nothing more. Never self-indulgent. His ego never seems to enter his playing. Pure and smooth. Such a sensible and correct musician. Same with Tom Schuman. Plays exactly what's needed, and nothing more. Mature players.

In the late 70's -80's Spyro Gyra and Morning Dance particularly protected me from myself and unknown trouble. It was my go to salvation when life wasn't understood. Playing it over and over in my bedroom. Tearing while writing this because the band saved my life and maybe someone else'. Gratitude for your presence then and lifelong success. I'm 67 now.

My father took me to see them as a kid, I wanna say in the late 70’s or early 80’s. At the time I wanted to go play football in the street outside. Over the years I never forgot that name Spyro Gyra. So when we started digging in my pops crates for samples I knew that name would have sample gems for days. I bought a bass and use to play along. I love the many moods the songs took you thru. In my head their songs reminded me of being outside in different times of the day. And at different places. My pops was a musician/ composer/ director, so I was exposed to many different types of music. I’m a WESTCOAST B-boy from the Chi. Seen a lot of the legends over the years. But till remember many of these songs at 52 yrs old.

In 1982 Spyro Gyra was the guest band at the renowned Elmhurst Jazz Festival and as band soloists in the competition we had the chance to jam with them the morning before the competition. What an amazing experience as an 18 yr old trumpet player. We had the competition during the day and they performed the concert at night at the beautiful Scottish Rite Auditorium. Before their performance they announced the competition awards and fortunately I won the trumpet soloist award. What a life highlight that I will never forget. Thank you SG for so many years of amazing music!
