Uncharted 4? BAHAHAHAH. Get out. Uncharted 4 will at best be on a top 10 list of games that did x and y really well while Star Citizen will be a trendsetter for all sci-fi games for the coming generations, and will be comparable to games like Wolfenstein 3D or Half-Life. You could even go out and test what the devs have done so far. If you had a computer to run it, that is.

Fox_Hole_Gaming Why not? Ever played Skyrim, Fallout or Mass Effect? You won't find more lifeless faces anywhere else.
@fox_hole_gaming8701
@fox_hole_gaming8701 9 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree,in wanting that, merely that there is a good reason why such a thing is feasible on PC, but not profitable to do for big publishers. Other teams don't need to "take note" or anything like that as I'm pretty sure they could all achieve this if they went 100% PC only. But the notion that they are doing something unheard of and others need to take not is a bit silly. Your not seeing other teams not do this because they can't, your not seeing other teams do this because they funded differently and their aim is to not solely make a PC exclusive, even CPDR stated they could have never even made a Witcher 3 on PC that even looked like the current withcher 3 if it wasn't for consoles as they could not afford it, ie they could not afford to create something on a small install base of elite PCs as they would never see a huge return if any return. CIG will see a return as they didn't even fund the game, the public did. Other developers don't have such a luxury and must fund the old fashion way. So lots of reason why your seeing this title push such visuals...because a big publisher doesn't own them and is not funding as I doubt you would ever see such visuals pushed for a PC title if it was crowd funded. Their is are a reason why Star Citizen is the only one pushing such visuals....they can afford to, its not that they are merely the only ones that are capable, just the ones that can financially take such risk. Didn't mean to write a tree, but there is more to why such a thing isn't happening all over then merely 1 team being better. Skyrim was never pushing 11 million units looking like this as a PC exclusive as it would be too demanding and the team would never see those sales without console versions to fund it.

Fox_Hole_Gaming So, your argument is they should or won't do it because they are developing for multiple platforms? That makes absolutely no sense. Please explain why the facial animations in Witcher 3 look awesome on all plattforms.
@fox_hole_gaming8701
@fox_hole_gaming8701 9 жыл бұрын
www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1049457 It makes more sense then you think bud. They are not making a PC exclusive...thus can't afford to spend money to make such visuals on a version that won't they won't even make a return on. Witcher 3's facial animations do look aweoseome....that isn't the point lol, its that they can't by default to what Star Citizen is ever look like Star Citizen's. Star Citizen is a PC exclusive crowd funded. They seek no return as its not their money they are using. CDPR can't do that as they are not crowd funded, they have to seek a return, they can't make a deep visual PC exclusive with high specs etc as even they stated this THEMSELVES. They could...they would not make a return though lol Star Citizen is the best bet for visuals like theses as they can again afford to make it PC exclusive and push such deep visuals as they don't have investors to answer to and they have no return on investment to seek as its not their money they are using to fund the project. Its why you don't see any big publisher making a game like this...didn't you think it was odd that no one was making such a game other then CIG? Its not a coincidence bud. Even Chris Roberts states it himself that such a thing is not feasible on console development and not feasible from the normal traditional funding methods of development as no publisher is going ot just make a PC exclusive with such high end specs...AAA. As to why you don't see an answer to this from any of the big publishers currently.

+alucard ex One of the things it isn't doing right is the lip movement. Lips are squishy and their surface is stretchy, and saliva makes them a bit sticky when they're brought together and pulled apart again. Video game animation so far doesn't quite reach that deep into what really happens when a face moves. The animators for Shrek were the first to start doing things like that, but it hasn't progressed too far beyond that yet and it has yet to make its way into games at all so far.

@MrTree421
@MrTree421 9 жыл бұрын
MrStubbs1981 When I say "many". I mean the part of the community that was screaming their lungs out for Infos on Squadron 42 since well about 1 year. Information on the Singleplayer is quite rare. If you compare it to the rest of the Game. And it is actually quite the well guarded secret(the Cast-List stayed secret(I find this very impressive)). And who are you referring to as "we" I was careful not to chose "We" because I wanted to not have a comment along the lines of "You don't speak for me"
@MrStubbs8157
@MrStubbs8157 9 жыл бұрын
+MrTree421 Because many people know, that all the "PU" or "SC" stuff, that they are working on is also an essential part of the experience in SQ42. And it is no surprise from the start of the campaign, that they wouldnt reveal a lot of information about the narrative stuff and the story. Everything that is developed for Star Citizen is also working in SQ42 and all this is essential. So, we get information every week about what is also in SQ42.... With we I mean every star citizen, that has just a normal sense of what is happening. None of those, who are informed ever claimed to have a low info on SQ42, as there was plenty, there is plenty and a lot of SC work you see is also for SQ42. So we get info every week. You just have to make up your mind about what SQ42 is.....It is essentially a narrative way to do missions...same as in SC, but with more cinematic and completely singleplayer (or occasionally coop, if you want to). We know that since the beginning of kickstarter. The storyline is the key! Not the missions you do, as you will also be able to do such missions in the PU. Not all but plenty. And there is no question, why they keep the storyline secret. As I said: Everyone who is following the project is knowing that.
@MrTree421
@MrTree421 9 жыл бұрын
MrStubbs1981 I really do think you missed the point of Cit-Con the scope of Squadron 42 is much bigger than you seem to believe. And while it is true we know a lot about the game mechanics in SQ42 which is as you pointed out really unsurprising since all features are developed to work in both parts of the Game. However when talking about a huge Singleplayer campaign. And the only thing you know for a fact is what mechanics will be in it you should actually realize you know jack all about the campaign. And up to yesterday no one(on reddit and SC-Forums) knew who the actors playing roles in SC are. With the exception of rumors about Mark Hamill and Jack Huston that spoilered himself a few days before Cit-Con. Normally after 3 years of Development you would know a bit more. For the record I consider myself one of those "Star Citizen with a normal sense of what is happening" so please don't speak for me. As I said: It is never clever to use "we" when expressing a personal opinion. One tends to antagonize people for no good reason other than to say: "Pff what are you stupid you dumb casual ofcourse we don't know anything about a huge part of the game. That would be spoilering a lot of stuff. You obviously don't know anything about SC"(this is essential what your two comments read like)

+Grant Briggs Pretty sure the female one was pre-rendered, and not in a real-time game engine; hence it looks much higher quality, and has higher-fidelity lighting.
@KillahMate
@KillahMate 9 жыл бұрын
+Grant Briggs The 'bald girl' is prerendered, they didn't have to compress anything and didn't have to do anything real-time - one frame of her animation could have taken like 15 minutes to render. She's as good as this tech can make her. Bishop is as good as he can be, considering he has to run in like 30 fps on a 980GTX.

@Swidhelm
@Swidhelm 9 жыл бұрын
+Grant Briggs I think it largely comes down to lighting. That woman was not rendered in cryengine. Probably something like Maya or Max. That, and I think Oldman being at the podium limits his body movements, and some of the natural motions are lost.

I am eager to finally see the final collected budget for Star Citizens over the all years from the Crowd Funding :D I bet it will be the most highest budget game ever that has been successfully developed and only by fan support. I can't even start guessing, whenever I think of a number, I think of the effort placed in and the quality and details placed, which then breaks my number and tends to reach higher...for example, 140mil ? naah...seeing this stuff in it...probably near 200mil...but the game is still in early stages nonetheless...man, I don't know :D

I think the biggest thing they could do now to improve the realism, is remove the beard they currently have on him. I'm find with Gary Oldman having a Beard, but the digital one just doesn't look correct at all. It's possible that when a man has a beard such as the one his character is portrayed with, his face will move differently, that he will express himself differently. Just the fact that there is hair, means it will interact with itself, and with the skin beneath it, also sometimes physically limiting the faces movement.

So incredibly close to over overcoming the uncanny valley, but dammit every time you get a good look at their eyes it just fails. It's especially prevalent in the CGI lady at 2:16. Looks good until she opens her eyes. Anyways, that aside this is all looking great. It's nothing new or ground-breaking, but the tech behind it and the end results are still great. It may not break the uncanny valley, but it's another step in the right direction, if nothing else.

Okay, I love the source engine as much as anyone, in fact HL2 graphics are my favourite of any game's graphics so far, but this is more advanced xD

It's great, but the only thing that seems off in the speech is the mouth. Like, it doesn't open realistically. It's too wide maybe. I don't know...it just seems...off.

the technology looks great but how comes this still looks more fake in action than faces in Battlefield 4?
@neob8366

Now fix on the eyes guys, looks weird, missing proper SSS and better color values, color its too oversaturaded and the eye and skin connection is not that perceptible. Fix this and Bye Bye Uncany Valey.

Everything looks great, but the teeth. The teeth are too big, too clean and too straight, there is absolutely nothing realistic about them, especially considering Gary Oldman's teeth are far from spectacular.

In no way is this going to be realtime. This is a promotion video, remember that. The game will be severely downgraded if it comes out, which in all likelihood will not.

+Derek Smart Do you really just go to every possible website just to spread your irrelevant opinion? You remind me of Al Gore on South Park. Sure some people seem to listen to you, but that's only because they aren't part of the community either or even following the game. You aren't a genius that suddenly stumbled upon a holy grail revelation, you just base everything you say on personal "experience" and opinion that again is irrelevant. Yes, you are a developer, but that's the same as comparing a indie 2d retro developer with Naughty Dog. CIG has a lot of talented people who are working really hard on something special. If Rockstar or Dice or any big game dev came out with a game that was technically "impossible" in your eyes, you probably wouldn't question it. Hell, the characters in Battlefield 4 or Ryse look just as detailed as these...so what's so out of reach? Besides this is work in progress, it will only get better. I think the only reason you're pissed now is because of the pushed back release date, to you know, make the game better. You keep saying that your early access game is finished when it's finished, but go around and demand dates for Star Citizen left and right. Direct quote from you: "When will LOD be released... uhm ..I dunno! We were shooting for end of the year, it might happen..uh maybe final release. But all things being equal, sometime in 2016, I mean it's early access, you know, I'm not interested in uh releasing it... you know if it's not ready, ya I mean if there is no incentive, it's not like I'm doing it because I need the money, I don't need the money, so...When the game is finished, it's finished, that's why it's in early access. ....(blah blah blah)...But the good thing is I have a game that exists, you know, the game is playable. Aircraft's aren't in yet but.... it is what it is." That is...wow... and you expect what from CIG? Don't make me laugh...and don't bring up that because it's crowdfunded everyone deserves financials and audits and release dates and say on budget meetings and and and.... Everyone is an expert at everything these days. It's easy to criticize someone else's work but it's hard to sit back and admit when you are wrong. Let these people do their jobs! Anyway why fill your life with so much negativity to begin with? Your ego must be through the roof if you like to troll forums so much, but judging from your live podcasts, what you say there isn't proofread or written by "legal" because it's a bunch of nonsensical comedy. Shut up, save some face and ride the development storm. You aren't saving the world, it's just a video game, albeit a video game with huge potential. I'm tired of your shit.
