Squaire Metro | Flughafen Frankfurt

Die Squaire Metro ist eines von zwei People-Mover Systemen am Frankfurter Flughafen. Anders als die "SkyLine"(*) verbindet sie allerdings nicht verschiedene Terminals miteinander, sondern dient als schneller Zubringer vom Parkhaus zum 5.Stock des 'Squaire'.
Das von Leitner entwickelte System besteht aus einer Standseilbahn mit zwei Kabinen, welche auf einer ca. 300 Meter langen Hochbahnstrecke im Pendelverkehr unterwegs sind.
Eröffnet wurde sie im Frühjahr 2012, als auch zeitgleich das Parkhaus eingeweiht wurde.
The Squaire selbst gilt als das derzeit größte Bürogebäude Deutschlands mit mehr als 140.000m² Mietfläche. Es befindet sich gleich über dem ICE-Bahnhof der Schnellfahrstrecke Köln-Rhein/Main. Über eine lange Verbindungsbrücke gelangt man nach ca. 5 Minuten Fußweg zum Terminal 1.

The Squaire is directly connected to Terminal 1 of Frankfurt Airport through a corridor bridge for pedestrians.

Sehr gut umgesetzt! Bin auch schon mehrfach damit gefahren. Schon ungewohnt so eine Standseilbahn ohne Berg dazu. :-)

Och, der fast 2 Meter große Höhenunterschied hinauf zum Parkhaus hat's doch ziemlich in sich. ;D Aber es stimmt schon, irgendetwas "fehlt" einfach. Danke sehr! ;)

Ich wusste gar nicht, dass es am Frankfurter Flughafen eine zweite flughafeneigene Bahn gibt. Kann jeder damit fahren? Es schaut jedenfalls so aus, da sie zu einem großen Parkhaus fährt. Tolles Video!

Very nice video Amin. (it makes me miss Europe just a liiiiiittle bit....) This isn't the "regular" train that transport transit passengers between terminals, right? - I remember the other airport train to be longer than this one. Very nice to see this one - thanks for the efforts you put into showing us!

And thank you for watching and your kind comments! And yes, you're right - the other longer airport train is named 'SkyLine' (shown in blue @ 0:04 ). I'm want to make a short video about this line too, but it's a little more difficult, because it's not allowed to use the western section as a normal visitor. (I'm planning on getting a very cheap flight ticket to avoid problems and using the 'transit-passenger'-car^^) I'm surprised that you even know this little train at 'our' airport ;D Are you often traveling via Frankfurt?

VeryGoodFeeling Well, i've only traveled via Frankfurt from Japan to Denmark 2 or 3 times, but no, I actually did not know this little train, I just remembered the "regular" one - The Skyline trains - were much longer. So it was fun to see the other one too. Gee... buying a flight ticket to film trains sounds like dedication to me! I'm looking forward to it. Cheers, and keep up the brilliant work!

Should be called a micro-metro. The switch at 2:30, only in Germany!. The tripod makes all the difference in the world.

Indeed, just about 300 meters of track ;D There might be some similar systems in other cities now (e.g. Perugia or Cairo), but I also think these switches are unique.

Jup, so sieht's aus^^ Kann aber noch ein wenig dauern. Bei der SkyLine ist ja leider nur der östliche Abschnitt für Besucher zugelassen. Werde dann erst mal mal schauen müssen, wie ich auch an die Station 1-A,Z komme.

VeryGoodFeeling Wird das mittlerweile überprüft? Bin vor einiger Zeit mal als Besucher zu 1A gefahren - hat sich keiner beschwert. Bin dann halt direkt wieder zurück gefahren.
