Mooooo
The silo is empty, the earliest ever because we didn't chop it full. Most of the time, we run out of silage towards summer when we can green chop any and all grass in sight. It's too early for that, so here comes the hay, twice a day, everyday until the grass grows.

Did you ever look into sorghum. Could probably get to cuttings off of it and put it in the silo definitely cheaper than corn with prices of fertilizer and good protein levels with it. Hope you have a great Easter weekend

Really wish you were closer. I have a 20' silo with about 30' of corn and hay silage in it that I have no use for anymore. My dad passed away suddenly in late February, and we sold off all the cattle for the time being. Unfortunately I'm in Western NY state.

I’ve always been told that broom sedge was an indicator of a need for calcium (limestone). After liming, then add fertilizer to help build up fertility. Seems to work in SW MO.

We pumped diesel fuel all over the inside and back beaters every time we were done hauling. Might be a tad expensive these days with diesel cost but it works...

Ever thought about giving them a pasture to run on? Seems like it would take some work off you to feed them if they were able to graze a bit.

sage grass is a indicator of low pH and low levels of phosphorus i have seen it for years and actually the best way to get rid of it is with tillage or i have even learned by mistake that high levels of nitrogen will slow it down .. or Glyphosate will keep the levels down ... a lot of guys confuse sage with the broom sedge...

This "sage grass" that stays in the ground for ten years, it feels quite the same nuisance as the reddish wind grass that is very bad for winter wheat. If you grow spring crops you will not see it. But after ten years, the first winter wheat will again drown in it. Some herbicides have an effect but tolerance problems already exist in Europe.

Our neighbor has a pasture full of sage grass or I call it broom sage. I don't believe that he has took very good care of the pasture. The cows are always getting out and eating our lawn lol. Luckily lately I've been able to keep them in. I believe he should split the pasture and clean up each part a bit at a time if possible. Hope it's been a great week. Have a great weekend.
