Very informative. Working on my crankbait game this season, particularly squarebills. This was very helpful.

Happy to hear Christopher. Good luck and have a great Memorial weekend. Hope you get some fishing in.

If I may add: When the fish are getting the front hook and the bait remains outside of the mouth, don't change a thing. If they are getting the rear hook, color or speed/action/sound can be modified. If they are swallowing the bait whole, go to a larger size of the same exact squarebill. If they are hitting the bait but miss (several fish in a row), you may be fishing too fast. Slow down and give some pauses when hitting cover.

How do you feel about braid for cranking but of course running a fluro leader for clear water? I’ve been experimenting with a glass cranking rod with braid and I’m able to clean it much much easier. I’m also not loosing hook up ratio either but that’s because I think it’s a glass rod so it both of best worlds. Thoughts?

Another great vid. Any suggestions on how to fish a square bill when you encounter patches of slime weeds? Other than find another body of water. Thanks!

Yeah, slime and stringy grass are tough. Pretty much need to avoid contact with both or fish a different lure. This was filmed early in the season and the grass was crisp and clean. Different story for us in late summer.

I dont really get The difference between crankbait n squarebill?
@nickedington36774 жыл бұрын
I'm not an expert on them but a square bill has a square bill that helps it deflect off of wood and rocks
@Wired2Fish4 жыл бұрын
The "squarebill" on a squarebill crankbait usually results in a wider wobber and better resistance to getting snagged around cover than a rounded lip.

Why is my square bill not diving deep
@LeatherNeck18334 жыл бұрын
2-5 ft. is a standard depth for squares.

Lighter line = deeper dive. Wouldn't go below 10lb test personally.

Wired2Fish What has always been something I can never understand is why someone fishing crankbaits does not use pliers or a hook remover tool to remove hooks. If you have a boat full tackle that costs as much as a house. You would think carrying a set of pliers on your belt or in a pocket would just be common sense. The idea of fooling with a bunch of sharp treble hooks in the mouth of a fish with your fingers is a bad idea. Using pliers is faster, safer and easier to do anyway. Even using pliers it is hard sometimes not to get stuck. There is no threat to your manhood if you use the proper tool for the task. Carpenters don’t drive nails with their hands an anglers need pliers to remove hooks. May be I am missing the reason why not using pliers seems a smarter safer system. Can you tell me why, because I really would like to know.

If he needed to use the pliers, he would have.

During this time of the Coronavirus, I use fish grippers and pliers. I don’t want to get hooked and have to go anywhere near a doctor’s office.

A lot of anglers prefer unhooking fish with their fingers if it allows. You have better dexterity and can cause the least amount of damage to the fish this way. If I need a pliers, I'll use them. -Kyle

@@Wired2Fish That idea has a few flaws; pliers provide better control and lessen damage to fish. If you wiggle the hook around to remove it; it makes a bigger wound to the fish. Hooks penetrate one direction and come out easiest in the reverse direction and damage fish less. Treble hooks are short and too small to control removing them with your fingers. You may prefer using your fingers now. The day will come sooner than later when you will get pegged to a fish with a hook between you and a thrashing fish. Just remember you were warned of the danger in the past. Hooks come out of fish even better when you pinch down the barbs. They also come out of fingers much easier too. Enjoy the pain of learning things the hard way.
