Square Enix Wants Final Fantasy 7 to Be Multiplatform, PS5 Fanboys Protest

The original FF7 was only a Playstation exclusive because Nintendo was stupid and made the N64 used cartridges. They had no choice, and the game got ported to PC a few years later anyway. FF was never a Playstation franchise. Just because a few of the games were exclusive at one point doesnt mean it's Sony's to claim as their own.

Well from FF7-FF14 it always came out on Playstation first with an exception 14 which was at first exclusively on PC because that game was so busted at launch that it had no hope of running well on 7th gen hardware. With that said when the game was relaunched it was exclusively on PS3 for consoles and it took 11 years and two console generations for it to finally also launch on Xbox. It took over a decade before FF7-14 released on Nintendo, Xbox, and PC properly. I'd say Final Fantasy has always been more of a PlayStation franchise since the release of FF7 than it not being one. That's due to SquareSoft, and later Square Enix's own choices, but that does not change the fact that the place to play Final Fantasy was almost always on Sony consoles. But it seems like Square Enix is finally done with exclusivity which is good for everyone.

What's the most wild to me is that the same people who complain about the game becoming multiplat don't even play the game they're complaining about for the most part. Oh no, Persona 5 isn't PS4/5 exclusive anymore. Most people if not all complaining were not the actual players. Oh no, Helldivers 2 isn't exclusive at all and most players were on PC. If it came to all platforms on launch, there would have been no chance for PC players to be warned before buying. It usually takes a week or 2 for the dust to settle after a launch.

As far as I'm aware, the poor sales of FF16 on PC haven't even been confirmed officially. Although if it did underperform, can we not assume it was because it was sold at full price with basically none of the PC features promised more than a year after it was originally released? Square's underperforming games come from them stubbornly trying to chase trends and follow outdated ideas like console exclusivity. They are also known for porting games with half the effort too, so if they addressed all of these things then I can basically guarantee they'd do just fine. The company heads are a bunch of dopes, just not for the reasons these people want to site.

Even though FF15 sold very well across 3 platforms, it was still under expectations. Let's be real, it would be dumb for Square from a business perspective to limit themselves to just Playstation. I love playstation, grew up with them, but it's a dumb argument to say it's a PS franchise. Square is independent and would make more money to offer their games to other platforms. FF16 not selling is isn't due to interest on PC platform. It's because the game itself is seen as straying too far away from the FF formula, and thus players spoke and said nah we'll stick to the older games. Look at the other square titles, it can't be said enough how much they sold as well as the other FF games in the franchise

with FF16, firstly, it has really high spec requirements, so the market is still low. Secondly, 16 is a controversial game even within the fanbase, so it makes sense why it sold less.

My first final fantasy games were on the og game boy. Granted, I later found final fantasy legends III was actually the SaGA series and final fantasy adventure was actually seiken densetsu. But eventually I played the "real" FF games on gba including I, II, and IV. They've just never been a strictly ps exclusive franchise.

To be fair to PS fanboys, mainline FF was console exclusive from 7 to 12. I used to buy PS primarily for FF and Kingdom Hearts games in my teens/early 20s.

It used to be a Nintendo exclusive. Then after the playstation era it was multiplatform including xbox. It clearly should have stayed that way.

​@@nddugas some people seem to think it's a Playstation game. It reminds me a bit of the Metal Gear franchise which has been more closely associated with playstation but started on Nintendo, then was PS exclusive briefly, then shortly after has had most of the games eventually come to xbox.

FF 1-6 Nintendo. FF7-12 Sony and Windows. FF13-16 Multiplat. Modern times: FF1-16 multiplat. So there is no being "fair" to sony fany-boys. They are toxic morons. The only FF game to be exclusive in the last decade is the FF7 remake and even that got ported over to Windows not long after.

@SeanUCF My being "fair" has to do largely with having a mentality that I had even when I was not a fanboy of anything. It was just a mental association based on the reality of the time and I understand having that association even though it did not start on PS and has not been exclusive for a long time.

I'm actually glad it under performed on PC. Square Enix got greedy and left the platform on their own. Nobody asked for it. And now just because that Sony money isn't filling their pockets they wanna crawl back? And also they are adding Denuvo for no reason.
