This is fun. I show my Simington Square ground chisel chain set up. And then we go out and cut logs comparing seven and eight tooth sprocket

Oh, BTW: I found ya by searching "How to sharpen an axe." A while back. Needed a refresher after spending a few years in the city. Watched one video, and have come back every day for a personal reminder to be more diligent and kind. Sometimes those random words seem to be speaking right to me, and I make sure to do my best to follow your example. Although I don't know how a man can exude that much genuine and honest love. You're an inspiration. Thanks again.

Hell yeah, well said. I think BBR exudes more positivity than even the most positive people I've ever met personally. I think that if the average guy can manage to get to half his level he's doing good enough to be well above average, here in California I see people living the hate life all too often.

Buckin, I can't put into words how you have helped me. I never grew up around tree felling never grew up around saws. However the house we bought needed an additional heat source. I found your channel you was the only guy talking about the gullet and how to really sharpen a chain a lot of people dont understand how a chain works your the only one who explains it the thing about 7-10 tooth sprockets yes you get faster chain speed but at the cost of horse power and torque a higher tooth count will hurt your performance if you dont have the engine or correct stall rpm on your clutch springs/shoes its just like a race car stall converter you can rock a small sprocket aggressive rakers and rip chunks out snap a chain or you can go with a mild raker big sprocket high rpm engaugment and make a chain rip though a log with very fast chain speeds but we are talking racing applications some will grind down clutch shoes and 3m bond cutable brake shoe aka friction material comes in many different slip percents changing springs etc can give a higher stall as well finding your power band and having the saw engage at that sweet spot rpm with a methanol breathing orange dragon with porting and timing/limiter mods a tuned pipe will rip so fast its scary

@@BuckinBillyRaySmith Normal bar maintenance can only do so much. For years, I've been having my worn bars redone by www.chainbar.com out of Portland, Or. They squeeze the rails together, then regroove them. Bars work like new. I think I've had some bars done twice. My guess is, once is enough, then toss the bar. Next time I come up your way to hang out with Reg, we should get together. I could pick up a few each of your worn bars and take them to Portland, as I get there often. Then bring them back within 6 months. how's that for service?..slower than a slug!!!

Love that Simington! I had one very similar to that when I fell timber in Oregon in the 80's and 90's. I started off round filing. Luckily this greenhorn got some help. Boss sold me his Simington (he was now a bullbuck and not cutting much) and my coworker with 38 years of experience gave me one of his old stones so I could set my dresser angles. He told me to go buy a roll of Oregon Full Comp chain and showed me how much to take the rakers down and how to clean up the gullets as it wore. That chain was unfreakingbelievable! One tiny burst of throttle and a limb the size of your ankle was gone! Falling and bucking the chain did all the work, and just sucked itself right through throwing chips that all looked perfectly the same. I had times I handed my saw to cutters that were stuck so they could cut themselves out, and they would hand it back with their eyes wide open going "Holy shit that thing cuts!" I couldn't take the credit that I didn't deserve and had to admit that it wasn't because I knew what I was doing. I was just lucky enough to have the help of those that did. I had been cutting as much as the rest of the cutters even though I was new, by sheer will, simply because I have always had tremendous endurance and I'm competitive. I would jog between trees with saw in hand. After I got the new setup, I still pushed myself like a dog, but now I was cutting 30-50% more, so now I wasn't just holding my own anymore.

Age old problem, well documented, with steel grindings dust destroying lungs going back to needle grinding factories during the British industrial revolution.

Awesome camera work Buckin and Ganges !! Thanks for answering my question which stays sharp longer, square grind or round file. I’ll stick to round file. Love and kindness to all the community. Peace ✌️ out.

Holy moly Buckin that square ground chain just looks so clean and deadly sharp. I'd like to throw a chain like that on my saw and bury it in a log. Thanks.
