Squarebills & RipRap for Snakehead and Bass: Tips on a Solid Spring Fishing Pattern

When you said "pattern" I thought of my Bass tournament days. Then I realized I litterally use the same frog and color 100% of the time. Ribbit Lousiana Crawdad. If Snakehead are biting, theyre biting crawdad color. I always wondered how many crawdads they actually eat, then last year I found crawdads in 3 of my Snakeheads stomachs. Look just like my crawdad frogs. I buy them by the case.

My buddy has torn up big bass and snakehead on the Z-man Jackhammer in Crawdad color too. But man - that price tag on the Jackhammer lately has me looking for more economical options.

Good deal, that the first snakehead of the year for you? Or already been on em? This cold front and wind is driving me crazy. Prespawn bite was really picking up, then it got kicked in the teeth by this weather.

Yeah, bow fishing pisses me off bro! These Snakeheads aren't going anywhere, might as well make them a game fish. They aren't hurting the Bass fishing at all imo. I've caught more big Bass since Snakehead have arrived than I did before.

How do u decide to go after them in cover or use the mepps out in the open water during spring like your other videos?

Good question. Usually it’s water temp. I tend to find them in open water with the Mepps when water temps are lower, say 55 degrees and below. Once temps are above 55, they tend to relate to structure more, be it hydrilla mats or shoreline structure like reeds.
