I can tell this is nineties. It's got that mix of electronic and other genres from last century, like cowboy bebop. This, along with Ventian Snares and Aphex Twin are what I will try my best to model my own music after.

7pm, winter, dark as fuck. Had a headache from the night before, and I was being driven home. This came on shuffle on my ipod, and I just watched the road in front of me being lit by the car lights for the whole song.

wish he'd go back to this style, and go music is rotted 2.0 with newer elements of madness that only he can do. shit would be a level of ridiculousness in the vein of 'Bitches Brew' Mr. Jenkinson, you're not a robot.. come back and let the jazz form free once again, it's high time. cheers.
@mpfmax08 жыл бұрын
+futurespells I was thinking the exact same thing, songs like this and tundra, beep street, the swifty will always be my favorite also his acid stuff like theme for ernest borgnine and wooshkie were also pretty good, but in his recent stuff I have only found few songs i truly enjoy.
@garethevans72958 жыл бұрын
+mpfmax0 I saw him live a few months back, having not heard any of his latest album(s?) but being a big fan of this era. I was really dissapointed, his new stuff seemed to lack the imagination and excitement of this, and came across as very generic, middle of the road 'edm'. He seems to be appealing to a different audience these days, how the mighty have fallen....
@geoffreylebowski86418 жыл бұрын
+futurespells yeah but he's an artist...if he followed anyone's agenda he would not be Jenkinson. I'd say to just wait and he will rotate back to his original mood

+futurespells I mean, I get where you're coming from and I'm right there with you, but every true artist transitions and changes as they age, those that don't get stuck in a rut. I'm not sure Tom could do works like this again if he really wanted to, he's not the same person any more.

If you asked him I imagine itd be like "I have no idea, I mess around and find stuff that sounds interesting and I throw it together with other stuff that sounds interesting." specifically you can say oh he takes samples and chops them up and sequences them then layers them with synths and recorded tracks of him playing bass or guitar or piano or w/e but the creative process is messy and explorative I'd imagine

I think the problem is that people don't have 'time' to listen to stuff properly nowadays. They want a quick fix. This side of Squarepusher completely relies upon the listening side and he's decided to veer away from that way of making music.....however, you have to keep up with the times. Unfortunately, jazz and experimental music isn't cool any more (sobs)...
