I was expecting to absolutely hate watching this match in these conditions but at the same time it's those courts we club players know best, somehow it's easier for me to appreciate the speed and the strength the pro players have because I understand the sounds, the court feels familiar and weirdly the decision making/shot selection/reaction time all seem even more impressive to me now. Big thanks to the crew at PSA SquashTV for providing watchable content and fast, hopefully it won't rain again tonight.

I agree, everything looks so much quicker and more impressive with the traditional courts. I feel like you don't get to appreciate this as much with the glass courts as it makes things look a lot easier and slower.

Il est spot-on, M. Pignon... I never played on a plexi glass court, but the sound - we just need that old fashioned noise, it helps with making some calculations about where that ball is going to end up, so we can give it a good whack and keep the rally going

I hope Lee Beachill and Alex Gough had a talk with both players and the ref after this performance. This is not a good product to showcase for a major event (or any event) especially when vying for an Olympic presence. I would suggest implementing a penalty system to help curb this behavior - i.e. player(s) banned from the next major tournament at the discretion of the PSA President/Committee after so many warnings. Evidently professional athletes can no longer be counted on to display sportsmanship. This is an on-going behavior for Dessouky. Elias could have handled it better but not a pattern of behavior for him - keeping in mind he was reacting to Dessouky 'acting'. John Masserella did not call a good match and lost control. The lets, no-lets, and strokes were inconsistent and puzzling. Curiously, there didn't seem to be a 3 ref system in place especially in the absence of the replay system. If so, that was a big mistake. The hometown crowd was a bit out of control in that setting as well. The sum of all parts equals a product that was less than professional - more bush league.

Man I am slowly but surely despising the Egyptian crowd. In my city in Australia, if we had a foreigner come and play, we would still much appreciate the talent that is being thrown around the court. We respect all outcomes. The Egyptian crowds when Elias, Paul Coll etc win a point stop in sheer silence and it is such a horrendous personality trait.

Dessouky showed conduct unbecoming of a world top 10 player throughout the whole game! But managed to position himself as a victim rendering Elias as the bad guy in the end. Worst of all: in the only, very short lookback on Eurosport it appears exactly like that: Elias as being the bad guy. What?! I do hope that Dessouky does not move further up in the ranks. He clearly has severe emotion issues that he need to solve before he deserves to advance any further ... clearly, more Ashours, Gawads - and let's not forget gentle players such as Amr Shabana - are in dire need here ... !!

The refs need to use conduct warnings and strokes more often, Dessouki spent a good 20 seconds standing out side the court waiting talking to a coach whilst the ref was telling him to get back on court, he was unnecessarily delaying play. Every time elias was serving Dessouki would walk around the whole court wiping his hands, a man's hands can only get so sweaty Use the Warnings and Strokes you're allowed to use to control the players and you wont have Dessouki roaming around arguing with the ref on every call.

This match is a classic example of what can happen if a referee doesn't appropriately deal with the players behaviour early on in the match. When it's tight, the players will inevitably take the proverbial if you let them. It sounds to me like it was John Massarella refereeing this match as well, and I normally rate him as one of the better refs :-s

Would you not be tired after a two minute fucking rally in the fifth game of a quarter finals? Not like Elias is complaining about the delay either. You'd never come close to these boys, so you can't judge that Dessouky pushes for extra time for respite.

example of sports gone wrong...no one (including ref) was perfect which is understandable in tight circumstances but I was particularly disgusted by Dessouki here, clearly missed a page about sportsmanship, someone somewhere taught him that this kind of behaviour was acceptable. It WAS fascinating to witness though as the tension mounted, but the aftertaste was very bitter and I'll stop supporting Dessouky from now on.

Disappointing match to watch given the somewhat lack of leniency & pedantic calls by the Referee who contributed to the frustration of both players. Be nice to see Dessouky mature into a more focused and disciplined player as we know he has the skills and talent. Elias has also improved and shows he has the talent to forge his way into the top 30 if not top 20 but there is congestion there already with gifted players jostling for the top 10 rankings. Both players would benefit from a neutral battle ground with a different Referee in their next encounter so be interesting to see who continues up the rankings over the next few years..

A game like this between two men with questionable on-court ethics generates many "Let" calls. Eventually a few bad decisions happen. Which pisses off the players. So they call more Lets. Its a vicious cycle. I feel for the Ref. I also dislike both players, particularly Dessouky which is a shame cos he's so so talented and physically fit .

No need for a triple yellow dot ball. On the all glass courts the pro's play with a single yellow dot ball (I have two of them at home). Obviously, on the glass back courts they play with a double yellow, but the front wall doesn't take so much of the energy out of the ball when it hits it.

Dessouky is a great player but it ends there. Absolutely awful sportsman, cry baby, quitter and a whiner. Don't believe me? Go watch any of his matches...it's always something and the same behavior you saw here. Watch him start crying against Ramy and walk off the court, quitting before the match was finished. I've watched close to two dozen of his matches and in every one of them it's the same thing as here except his opponent handled it differently. On the other hand I've watched many Elias matches and never seen him behave like a petulant child as Dessouky does. All I saw was Elias grow tired and frustrated with Dessouky's antics. The constant delays in between points, trying to manipulate the rules and ref and all around poor sportsmanship. For any one who was played tournaments and been unfortunate enough to run into a player like this knows exactly what I'm talking about. It's awful. And Dessouky is crafty about it...he acts like a prick and then tries to make himself look like an angel. Dessouky is weak mentally and a terrible sportsman. Egypt should be terribly disappointed with players like Dessouky and El Shorbagy taking over the reins from perfect gentleman and classy players like Ramy and Shabana. What a shame.

What made it difficult to watch was Dessouky behaving like a petulant child, deliberately obstructing, delaying, and otherwise disrupting the match. And then being crafty about it and trying to make Elias look like the bad guy. Elias fell for it and started acting up in reaction/retaliation. In these situations it is incumbent on the ref to assert his authority to demand better behavior from the players. Earlier and forceful intervention by the ref would have sent a strong message to the players to behave themselves. I believe, if the players do not themselves bring good sportsmanship, then good sportsmanship should be enforced upon them

Totally agree with jacob elias had every right to act the way he did, Dessoukys body movement off the ball was becoming down right nasty and he new he could get away with it because of previous calls going against him when in all fairness was due to his own poor positioning. It seems every game Dessouky finds tough he resorts to either unsportmanlke tactics or complaining to the ref, and to see Dessouky try to what it looked like justifing himself at the end of the game was just wrong.

Yes we know Dessouky was in a way egging Elias's behaviour on but still, in the last game it becomes very obvious, given you pay attention, to how firmly Elias back-steps as to block, and there was no need for the horrid behaviour of Elias. I know Dessouky isn't perfect and in my opinion argues far too much with referees, but you can't shame Dessouky when Elias is acting far more un sportsman-like.

Dessouki is known for his bad behaviour, he gets conduct warnings in a large amount of his matches. He does it purposely to get a reaction out of his opponent. Mo El Shorbagy also has quite bad behaviour as he argues with the ref alot, but no where near Dessouki's level. Elias is easily frustrated and dessouki took advantage of that. Elias needs to learn how to control his temper and Dessouki needs to play cleanly.
