what a great example of a real humble sportsman. I was always wondering when its gonna be the first time rösner wins a tournament. this guy always puts so much pressure and has nice touches at the same time. now finally he won a big world series tournament....that was really overdue! All hail the German Treechoppa Gentleman !

Rosner seems to read Momen's change of direction in backhand volley drop very well. Others always get surprised by Momen's signature shot

His finishing ability has improved so much in the last year or two. With all credit to him, this is a reminder of what the Egyptians have brought to the game. Ten or twenty years ago squash was still a great sport, but so much more attritional. Now with the standard of attacking so much higher, you see players like Rösner and Matthew going for the nick, and all of us get to enjoy it.

Fantastic squash in the tournament and great for Rosner. Have subscribed to Eurosport and have to say it's a bargain for £30 a year. The matches between Matthew/Gaultier, Cuskelly/El Shorbagi and of course the final were worth that alone.

That's a shame - I presume Eurosport isn't available outside Europe. It's even cheaper in euros. Plus we get other sports (including, ironically, the Australian open tennis). I'd like to see the lower pricing around the world to get squash as widely seen as possible in the push to get it an Olympic sport. I must say though that if you're a squash fan and player like me (I run a weekly squash club in London) the quality of the broadcasts is excellent and seeing the whole matches is like day and night compared to the highlights so the higher price may be worth it (I have no connection with SquashTV).
@squashtv

That seems odd... I'll raise it with our web development team and check that the geo-pricing is working right.

Did he say 13 or 30 years he’s been trying in New York? Well deserved. The crowd as usual are fantastic and so appreciative. Best place to play these world class tournaments.

Such a likeable winner. Been quite worried that he wouldn't have enough to beat the continuous emergence of dynamic Egyptian players and get a big tournament win like this. Fitting that he beat his pal Nicky Müller on the way to this title.

This is where Jansher Khan and Jahangir Khan were so special. They would just win everything. Muhammad El Shorbaghy, Ramy Ashour, Greg Gaultier and even the wolf Nick Mathew, non of them could maintain that winning streak. But personally im happy for Rosner. such a great guy and wonderful player.
@inghell
@inghell 6 жыл бұрын
Imran Khan I think it’s hard to compare and say that. The game has changed so much and there’s a lot more depth in the circuit. The Khans were the best of their time no doubt but they played a different brand of squash.
@ImranKhanCardiac
@ImranKhanCardiac 6 жыл бұрын
Yes that's a very valid point. I think it's not possible to maintain that kind of consistency now a days. I agree. But i guess it is also good for the game of squash to see many different faces on top position. That contentment on Rosner's face was worth watching.

Having watched thw full replay earlier, some pf the decisions were awful. I think this os what holds squash back from olympic sport status - the inconsistency
6 жыл бұрын
do you think that the decisions changed the result? (sorry for my english)
@Filpiovano
@Filpiovano 6 жыл бұрын
I agree that there are bad calls in every match, but every sport has inconsistencies, just look at football. What’s holding back squash from the Olympics is money, plain and simple.
@lordjimbo2
@lordjimbo2 6 жыл бұрын
It's definitely a problem. Squash is more fun to play than it is to watch because of that, IMO.
@jackw6617

I think rosner was always going to win. There was one call in the 3rd game that i think made rosner loose his head and think he could possibly have taken it in 3. I see your point about other sports, but lets, no lets and strokes are so open to interpritation - in this match there was one game that had 16 decisions, none of which were consistent- one would be a no let the next (very similar situation) would be a stroke
@Filpiovano
@Filpiovano 6 жыл бұрын
I know, one little decision makes an enormous impact. The PSA needs to bring in a new generation of umpires, the ones they have are stuck in the 80s and haven’t really kept up with the modern game.
