How to crochet your own crochet frog door stop. Crochet plushie, easy amigurumi
🤔 See below for stitch count at end of rounds 🤓
This tutorial teaches you, step by step, how to crochet your own crochet frog door stop. I also teach you how to adapt the pattern to fit the round heavy object you are using.
PDF version available at my Ravelry and Etsy stores:
www.Ravelry.com/stores/caroly...
carolynzaki.etsy.com
Notes: crochet in continuous spiral rounds
I'm sorry, I made a mistake in editing and left out round 22 in the head part. Round 22 is one Sc in each stitch.
Also, please use 8 Sc in each MR for the head, body and mouth. (I didn't realise I had a weird way of counting the 2nd round. At the end of the second round you need 12 sts. You learn a lot using round markers 🤣)
Please use something to mark your rounds! It eliminates a lot of possible errors.
Crochet stitches used in this pattern are single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), foundation double crochet (Fdc), slip stitch (sl st), magic ring (MR) and increase (inc) and decrease (dec) stitches.
I really hope you enjoy making your own squashed frog doorstop and I hope it makes you giggle every time you see it 🐸 😂

This frog doorstop would make a fun prank gift for husbands, dads, coworkers, adult kids, teens, Father's day, Grandparents, or anyone who enjoys a joke. It also makes an interesting decor item. A great conversation starter. 😂
He's been called "road-kill frog" and "splat frog". Comment your name suggestions. 🤣
This is an eco friendly, sustainable project if you follow the recommendations and use a ball from your local recycle center. 🌱 You can also fill it with smooth stones, beads, coins, a smooth large rock, etc, (perhaps in a sock or stocking and with a layer of fibrefill around to help smooth out the bumps, but the round shape won't be as neat as a solid ball.)

You crack me up with the speeded up counting ;) Sis is a frog lover, and she needs a softish doorstopper for her kitchen door. This frog will be just, what might give her a smile. It will have to be made a little smaller, though, so it looks like I will have to do my own math, and adjust head and body.
@carolynzaki

I hope your sis will love her frog. Mine still makes me smile all these years later 🤣. If you use one strand instead of 2 and a smaller hook, it should crochet up smaller. My Bocchi blob video shows the difference in yarn weight and hook size outcomes at the beginning of the video. The round count is in the description. I come from a freestyle crochet background, so had a bit of trouble figuring out all the information people needed to replicate my frog 😫.
@NickUncommon

No worries, I have a freestyle background, too. It got me into trouble, when I reverse engineered a toy, I saw on the www, and the designer was not happy, that I did not buy her pattern for it. She accused me of having illegally aquired her pattern, so I rather ask before replicating sometjing out of what I saw, and the resulting project being too close to the original and the designer not being happy with it. Thanks for giving me the go ahead. Will dig in my cottons and hope it will make sis as giggly as me. That face on the frog is just too funny.

@@NickUncommon I’m totally cool about anyone making my frog. It does get a bit annoying when people reverse engineer my designs and then sell them as their own “original” patterns though… I find the designs that move on to something new and different inspiring though. Someone made a squashed rat door stopper and I think it’s brilliant. I hope it was inspired by my frog. When I first posted my frog picture on Pinterest I couldn’t find any crochet squashed animals at all anywhere on the internet. Now there are heaps of fun ideas coming out. It’s fun when we inspire each other without stealing each other’s designs 🤩

@@carolynzaki i wont sell or call something my own which is not. In the case, where the designer told me off, I mentooned, that what I made was inspied by her design and it was a one picture project note in a forum. Being Autistic, I sometimes involuntarily violate unwritten rules. I am open for critique, and where I can, I try my best to clear up any hiccups, I can anticipate. Will definitely try the thinner yarn and hook, and then I can comment, how it went.

@@carolynzaki It's so cute. I love it. But honestly, couldn't see it lasting more than five minutes. I do know someone who "knitted" chain mail for reproduction (renaissance fair type) realistic armour. I've used 22 gauge and/or 24 gauge craft wire to crochet a "necklace" with beads added along the way. Wouldn't look as appealing though, squished under a door. However, I could hopefully follow your pattern to make one for someone who doesn't have a destructive cat or three 🙂

@carolynzaki
@carolynzaki Ай бұрын
You only need a weighted ball in the body. I experimented with a cut tennis ball in the head, but the shaping in the crochet pattern is enough to keep the shape and you don’t need weight on both sides. You can also fill the body with tights filled with stones, or other small weighted things, but I prefer the recycled heavy ball option because of the beautiful shape it gives.

@@vasilicabostan4193 Hi, I’m sorry. I didn’t include stitch counts for each row because I was trying to teach everyone how to make a shape to fit whatever ball they have. We all have different crochet techniques too, so it’s important to learn how to make the general shapes to work on the ball, including the yarn size, hook size and your own tension. If you need the row counts, I can figure them out if you’d like, but it may not fit your ball and your crochet technique.

How about a balloon filled with sand for the belly? Or a lille ball with a hole then sand and taped or glued closed again?
@carolynzaki
@carolynzaki 2 ай бұрын
I guess it depends on how long you expect to use it. I made my first frog nearly 7 years ago and it’s still fine. I think a balloon would perish and break before long and you’d just have sand everywhere. I used a round plastic container with a screw on lid for the one I sent to Japan. My friend filled it with sand and then sewed it shut. She has no small children or pets, so it should last well. My wonderful pattern tester, Rafaela, used old tights filled with HDPE pellets. You can check out her review on Ravelry. There are so many ways you could fill it, but I needed something my son wouldn’t destroy and I wanted it to really keep its shape well, so I chose the recycled weight ball, bocce ball and wooden and plastic lawn bowls balls for mine. I just love how round the little belly is 🤣

The pattern for the arms and legs is the first part I've described how to make in the video. It's at 2:58. I've actually made 2 options for the toes. In this video I used Magic rings in a contrasting colour for the toe pads and 16 fdc for the front legs and 18 fdc for the back legs with 4 chain from the fdc to the toes. Then sew the stitches together to make a little hand where all the chains meet. I hope you have fun making your own little squashed frog door stopper!

The ball is about 12 cm (4.75 in) in diameter. The circumference is 39 cm (15.5 in). The ball I used in the tutorial is a lawn bowls ball, which is flatter on the top and bottom sides. It's about 13 cm across and 11 cm (4 3/8 in) high.

I actually love frogs and never imagined my door stopper was dead. We have big green tree frogs here and they can squeeze through the tiniest spaces. I’ve only ever imagined my frog squeezing under the door and getting exhausted part way. 😂🤣

We have large “green tree frogs” where I live. That’s actually what they are called! They squeeze through tiny spaces, much smaller than their bodies. I wonder how they can possibly fit through. My crochet frog is not dead! It’s just tired from squeezing under the door. It’s taking a break.

Hi Brenda, the video is the free pattern. I’ve never claimed that the written pattern is free. I made the video for everyone to be able to make their own frog for free by following my video tutorial, but some people asked me to make a written pattern too. The written pattern is available at Ravelry and Etsy.
