Wow! Well done Gawad. So interesting to all those haters who said Gaultier only claps his racquet when he's winning. Watch this - he was clapping when he was 2-1 down and 5-7 down in the last match. Great sportsmen - the both of them.

Yes I agree, I think Gawad is so much easier to respect than Shorbagy. Gaultier knows class when he sees it, and he respects it.
@jakubs.68177 жыл бұрын
correctly, cause shorbagy is a tricky scumbag, like no other player

Its a really good example of the differences of squash players. Gawad and Gaultier are polar opposites. Different styles, different body shapes, different movement patterns, different on-court personalities, different use of the crowd, different nationalities, opposites of age. I think that's why this final is special for me. It's not another case of an Egyptian who hits cold winners playing another Egyptian who also hits cold winners, in Egypt. I think thats also why I've liked Matthew's recent form and the resurgence of Willstrop. :-)

Congrats to Karim, playing at the top of his game! Congrats to Greg for putting on such a fine example physical and mental toughness. Thanks to PSA Squash TV for this fabulous display of squash, best regards LTSquash.

Great Sportsmanship. Gaultier celebrates even if he loses which shows just how he is as a person.

I absolutely love these guys for totally different reasons. Gaultier is a total character, always so entertaining to watch and plays such amazing squash. Gawad is just such a nice humble dude, and obviously extremely talented. He's going to have an amazing career. They are both a huge asset to the sport.

Well deserved by Gawad. He looked physically stronger than Gaultier. I think in Gaultier case sometimes it's better to concede the rally rather than attempt to retrieve every shot and that way you conserve energy....He ran out of steam but of course Gawad retrieval was unbelievable and his shot placement had Gaultier running around the court like a headless chicken!! Gawad is a great ambassador for the sport with his calm demeanor on court and his professionalism

Gaultier is such a great competitor. (Even when he misbehaves.) Gawad is perhaps the streakiest player on tour--he'll beat a #1 seed, but lose to a nobody in the second round, during any given tournament.

What a great final, it was a shame Mazerela the marker made so many errors, he ruined the game especially in the final game. Why don't they pick former players and not old men with poor eyesight, he ruined the end for me, but Gawad did play well as did the French General.

To all those saying Gaultier is a cheater - look how he avoids using left leg. It's clearly noticable i.e. at 10-10 in 3rd game. Every time he's under pressure he makes lunge with right leg. And look how he lost balance when he put weight on left leg

Nick's been a lot better in the last couple of years; I think it's time to cut him some slack as he's definitely not the crybaby he was in 2012.

Gaultier's movement is so casual even when he's fully fit, but it definitely looked a bit laboured in that match. Thought he was milking it a bit against Shorbagy but he was definitely hurting against Gawad

Novice question : do all-glass courts provide more bounce to the ball ? Or are these white balls different from the regular double dot black balls ?
@raystrachan76257 жыл бұрын
less bounce on account of the walls not being solid and absorbing some of the impact. have not played with the current white ball, but i am told they are similar to double yellows, but they can get spongy relatively quickly
@ahfei68477 жыл бұрын
Thanks. To me it looks like it bounces so much more than when I play!
@raystrachan76257 жыл бұрын
that would be because they hit the ball twice as hard, the rallies go 5 times as long and the time in between hits is 50% less than most mere squash mortals. in other words the ball has a lot less time to get cold. until you get on court with these guys, it is hard to imagine how quickly everything happens.

I can't stand watching the 5-8 point (kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaTdloKDa6aJZ9Em40s) since the ball was clearly out and the ref woefully missed it. PJ asks if there was a 'call', but no -- that's just the audience catching what the ref doesn't see.
