All I know is, back in my college football days, the TENS unit coupled with either a heating pad or ice massage removed swelling from my lower quads that was so bad I could barely walk. I'd go into the training room after bumping knees with one of the offensive linemen double blocking me and assume that I wouldn't be able to practice for a week. Twenty minutes later I was almost brand new, which was a bummer when I was looking forward to being lazy that day.

I had a hip replacement done 8 months ago. They didn’t tell me that trochanteric bursitis is a complication of the surgery. I’ve always been incredibly active. Now I can barely lie on my right side. Since I used to be physical therapy aid, I already knew about the wonders of tens therapy. I use it several times daily. The relief is immediate. Better than ice, lidocaine patches and voltaren gel. I also eat an anti inflammatory diet. Sugar and dairy are super bad and cause inflammation. I exercise as well, mostly swimming.

TENS devices allowed me to work when my lower back was absolutely destroyed for about 9 months. If I didn't have a tens - the kind without contraction - I wouldn't have been able to work (I was a server at the time) or even walk really.
@domepiece113 жыл бұрын
I do think the high rate tens helps with muscle tightness by fatiguing the muscle and helping it relax. If I get a bad muscle spasm in my back and I go to PT, they put the high rate tens on with heat. I feel much much better afterward. I think they key is using the right tool for the right job.
@SquatUniversity3 жыл бұрын
True - and to also do something active directly after to address WHY the area is spasmed in the first place. The problem i see too often with physical therapist that use high rate often is they use it with heat or ice and don't do enough exercise to promote treating the why.

It depends on where you live. Some countries require a doctor's prescription to buy it, in others, you can buy it without a prescription. My question is for something like the "Bionic Gym" that is designed for extended and habitual use for conditioning and potentially supplementing weight loss, is it possible for this kind of TENS or EMS technology to cause nerve or muscle damage? Are there any reasons not to use that kind of a device? And is it realistic to expect improved muscle performance with consistent use, especially in the untrained?

Does the low rate tens help to prevent muscle atrophy during injury? E.g knee injury and sustaining VMO.

there is no such thing as high rate or low rate tens. he just made it up. EMS, which he does not talk about, have been said to prevent muscle atrophy

Hi what do you think about tens for tendonitis? I have had bad bicep tendonitis which gives tennis and golfers elbow would these type of devices help with recovery?

no it will not. TENS only provide temporary pain relief. there are numerous videos showing you how to solve tennis/golfers elbow. it will take time to heal.
