Their fur is so different, colorwise and in fluffiness. The guard hairs on Squeak are super long. Also, this is an excellent video for seeing what the quills look like. Thank you!

I am So glad that Chonkers felt comfortable enough to come back inside after his vet ordeal. It's like he has a long brush cut, if that makes sense. Lol. I don't know whether they mate for life. They're supposed to have their babies between April and June, but I've heard there were a lot of late babies in 2024. Pip and Squeak were both born around the end of July.

I wish we had porcupines in OH where I live. I loved interacting with them when I was stationed at Fort Drum, NY. I always seem to run into one hunting. I had one pooping on me one time while in my Tree stand. Didn't bother me at all, I just enjoyed listening to its little happy sounds.

I didn't know Squeak was Chonkers' daughter and it's delicious to see them eating and mumbling together. I seem to remember an old video you posted of a rampant Chonkers chasing a pretty female porcupine, so Heaven knows how many kiddie porcupines of his are out there. Squeak is always going to protest loudly if there's any suggestion the door might be closed between her and warmth and food, and now her wonderfully fit father is barrelling in too. I really enjoyed watching them, and as always, thank you.

I could hear Squeak verbalizing as she came through the door. To me it sounded like soft owl hoots. I'm guessing she weighs 7 pounds. She doesn't look even 1/2 her Dad's weight. After Joel's explanation of their tails (in another video) it was good to see the comparison and how the female's is indeed more narrow. Although frankly, Squeak's tail is still quite tiny.

I think they part ways pretty quick, but I'm not sure. And the babies don't stay with their mothers for very long. Unless the baby is Squeak. Because that one will stay with her mother forever apparently.

I don't think so, but also, Spike was the only mom who made it super obvious who her baby was by bringing Squeak with her. I think they get pretty independent fast and also might be one of those species that don't typically spend all day with their mothers (we sometimes have a deer that drops her twin fawns off near the kitchen and comes back like 12 hours later for them). Chonkers is nice to all the babies, he lets them steal food right out from under him, even if it's his favourite snacks, but he doesn't really seem to interact one on one with them much.

I think Chonkers probably has a lot of kids. We're not sure though about any of it though. We're just guessing because Spike and Chonkers spent a lot of time together last year.

Probably! And we aren't 100% sure Chonkers is Squeak's dad, but he and Spike (Squeak's mom) were showing up and leaving together a lot, right around the time Spike got pregnant. Chonkers spent a lot of time singing and dancing for the other porcupine moms, but Spike seemed to like following him around too. The others mostly yelled at him.

We don't really. We're just guessing. We only really know Squeak is Spike's. But Spike and Chonkers spent a LOT of time together last year.

We know Spike is Squeak's mom, because she started bringing her around when she was only a few days old. We're pretty confident Chonkers is Squeak's dad, because Spike and Chonkers were hanging around together a lot around the time Spike would've gotten pregnant (back calculated off Squeak's age).
