My Primera who sits next to my Mazda 6GH has this exact problem and today I went to the mechanic and he told me I have a similar problem to yours 🎉😂🎉

😂 Then easy fix for you. I would recommend all new parts, so this doesn't happen again, but hey, if the budgets doesn't allow, this is a good way out too.

Finally a video with the same calipers as mine................ Same problem too, no grease on the slide pins or the pads, brakes sticking after a few miles, lovely burning smell when I park my car. All done now, but a little bit worried about the caliper piston, might have rust behind the seal? :/
@KlavsX_11 күн бұрын
Oh, if you can smell burning from brakes it's pretty bad news. ( if the piston rubber/seal doesn't have a hole where dirt/ water get inside the seal, then it all should be fine) You need to inspect the seal for cracks, holes or defects. I hope you changed your brake discs and pads!
@Strider965510 күн бұрын
@@KlavsX_ No, that's a job I plan for better weather. I needed to inspect and re-grease everything, the car is 2012 and very low mileage, so a lot of things like this haven't been looked at for many years. Both wheels had to be hammered off with a mallet, the pads wouldn't come out without some force, the pistons had some rust on them, but the outer seals looked ok, there is a shim missing from the inner pad on the passenger side rear, but that's just to reduce noise. I will know on Monday if anything has improved!

I see. Yeah, there are two ways to go. More wallet friendly is to pull everything apart, clean and grease it up and see how it does. The other one would be buy new discs/ pads / pins and caliper rebuild kit. Obviously that will hit the wallet quiet hard.

First of all, I wouldn't put so much grease on the brake caliper guides. Secondly, I would not lubricate the hub so much before installing the brake disc and I would definitely check with a dial gauge whether there is any runout. Thirdly, check whether the pads are not flying sideways in the plates on the brake yoke, because you will hear a slight knocking noise inside, as if from the suspension.

I'm no mechanic, but The grease and stuff I did was to spec. (I did confirm with an actual mechanic and his words were ''you're not a mechanic nor is that a race car,'' that's fine. I would love to own a dial gauge so I can measure it and show people how to do it. 👍 Pads are good, they sit tightly in the carrier/metal hardware, only missing the steel wire that pushes out the pads

The rear brakes are a weakness on these. Almost every gh that i have worked on has had stuck rear slide pins and pads, Mine too!
@KlavsX_4 ай бұрын
Sounds like it is a design/ manufacturer problem. Such things shouldn't happen to the brakes. OR people don't service them when it's needed 😅
@guy58284 ай бұрын
Its both, The slide pins usually get stuck because of the rubber on the end of the slide pin. But the pads get stuck because people usually dont do anything with the brakes until the pads are worn out. Rear pads wear slowly so overtime it gets stuck due to lack of lubrication and rust!@@KlavsX_

Yeah, you nailed it. I find it weird, that people don't check up on rears when they do the fronts. 🤔 If the front rubber is split and cracked, so are the rears. To lube stuff up and check if things are alright, would go a long way, and the rears would last longer. 🤔 Or it's just me 😅 overthinking

Hello! Do I need the same calliper piston set for brake job on the front side to push the pistons back? Thank you!
@KlavsX_Күн бұрын
You can use the same, but make sure that No tabs are coming in contact with the piston. The tabs can damage the piston and you will need to replace the piston

Noob here, what are you using to clean up the calliper? Alternatively can I use a wire brush?
@KlavsX_29 күн бұрын
Yes wire brush will do fine. You can use break clean too. As long as the rubber, brake pads, rotor and the hardware isn't damaged, its all should do good.
@Mr.Beard84 ай бұрын
Nice job ! I done the same to mine as well,but all 4 calipers(new rotors + pads + grease). Thx for the vid. Do you manage to put the pad pins back? otherwise the pads can't slide back .
@KlavsX_4 ай бұрын
Thank you. Nice job, hope your's didn't fight back :D The pad pins / pad wire is missing, so I will put them on when I get them in mail. I should have done exactly the same thing as you did, new caliper, pads, rotors all the hardware.

@@KlavsX_ I watching your vids all the time , keep up the good work. Perhaps you will do a clutch replacement in near future? ,i will probably watch that too, because i will have to change it on mine

@@KlavsX_ no need. I have done this before and akebono brakes need a service every tyre change. When pads are on 50% wear change them, service the calipers and you wont have to change them.
@KlavsX_4 ай бұрын
😅 Wasn't the point but alright. I did mention in the video ''I should replace all of this, but not in the budget''😂 Would recommend one thing, If the brake disc is in good shape don't change your pads when they are 50 %, you are literally throwing out 30% of usable material ( if your brake pads have the wear tab, that is a sign when to actually change them).
