So, it may not give a bunch in the top in but the saw has more "crack" now. It is way more responsive and overall more well mannered now.

All muffler mods add performance…its letting more air flow through. You might get 1% better, you might get 20% better…but there is going to be better performance

No matter what they breathe better and that's a good thing. The inner baffle on 460 I drilled a hole as big as I could in it and that's where the biggest difference came from! 562 is loving that muffler and it shows! Good stuff hope you like it!

Dude, you definitely sold me on the muffler mods. I am just going to buy an aftermarket muffler and do the mods myself. There are benefits to being a welder and fabricator 😎. And I have been looking at dying my orange plastics to black on my 562. They look awesome blacked out. Plus, the way folks have sticky fingers around my area, they would be easier to recognize if stolen. But those pipes definitely woke up those saws. I appreciate the videos brother. Hey Oakie, I was wondering what took you so long to muffler mod a saw! haha. Nah, no need to do a field reset on the A.T. system - a couple of steady cuts and she'll do the math on the change. Both saws sound wicked now - good job 👍👍

Aaron, not like porting a clone 460 like you do and getting the insane numbers but do you not agree that the 562 is already pushing limits pretty good and now with the more open exhaust it responds with more of crack? I know your saws get HUGE gains but aren't the 562 saws wound a bit tight from the factory already?

👍👍 I think muffler mods have a place in some saws- others, not much if any improvement. Looks like both provided some gains and will hopefully get some heat out.

CF, I am super thrilled with how the 562 responded on this. I am very interested to see if it alleviates some of the manners this saw has had. It seems to hot start a bit better so far from what I can tell. The STIHL 460 is going to get a more opened up exhaust here shortly as well.

Had me worried on the 460 at first but it passed up at the end , open the baffle later on get a bit more gains. Your video work is great man you make watching your channel something I like sharing with my your boys thanks for the clean high quality content

Kenny, the 562 needed help from stock and I think this mod made the saw better. I think similar results would be gained from a muffler mod as well. The 460 really only got the half mod as there is still more to go. I am going to test that out!

The speed of cut increase was consistent, but slight. Both saws sound awesome! Reminds me of my Dad’s 1950’s Strunk Speed Demon, the 1st saw I ever used. It didn’t have a muffler. The exhaust port was right next to the handle and boy did that old girl talk when buried in some hardwood log.

Those steadfast mufflers are amazing. Really wake the 5 series up. Have one on my 572 and waiting for the 550 muffler to be released. Absolutely worth the investment

I would say do it! If you have the ability, it would be well worth it. The 562 part is certainly not going to be super easy to build. This unit was some heavy gauge stainless. Thanks for sharing what your mom used to say to ya and very sorry for your loss.

@@TheRustyGarageandHomestead I want them for decking on a hay wagon lol I have one out in one of my pastures that is shade for my pigs when in that and when I got it free from my Neibor it needed a deck 5 years ago and still needs a deck lol I do keep fencing supplies on it bairly. I'm getting a load of gravel this tomorrow and I'm going to move some equipment that I have on an other steel decked wagon to on the pad then the fence stuff to the steel decked hay wagon so I can then take some ash logs to the mill and make some decking for it . Maybe by Aug I'll have it done ? Maybe i have 30-90 other projects to do also so who knows . Have a great day

Welcome to the world of muffler modification. Improving the CRACK (snappy) as you call it, and pull. Keeps some heat away from the saw. Husky saws that I have changed out the mufflers, I heard the autotune do its thing within 20 seconds after startup. No secret, the more exhaust exits, the more fuel/air enters. LOUD SAWS, keep turkey neckers and looky loos, far away from you also.

Do t blow your pistons. Make sure to check the rpm at full throttle when playing with the high speed screw. Stick to what the engineers recommend otherwise it’s going to cost you. I have a Stihl 026 and 034 set at 13,000 as per spec. My 026 is close to 30 years old and my 034 is about 28 years old and they both still run like brand new.. German engineers get paid the big bucks for a reason.

I somewhat agree with you. I would not do a muffler modification without using a tachometer to set the proper rpm settings. That may or may not be necessary with an auto tune saw, but I wouldn't modify a carburetor saw without a tachometer.

Indeed! The problems were very much more prevalent at the beginning, then the saw was well mannered for quite some time. I recently had an anomaly they may have been cause by me pushing the saw a bit too hard. I can tell you this, with this exhaust, the saw seems to be an overall better operating piece of equipment. I believe muffler covers do nothing/fairly little. Entire mufflers do help quite a bit

You do realize most Stihl mufflers come in two pieces. A "bark box" modification, for example, replaces the outer half of the mufflers and many find great results with that.
