This has been one of may all time favorite songs ever since I first heard PART of it 1980. It never got much radio play in Los Angeles where I grew up, but I would catch snatches and bits of it here and there, until I finally was able to get the band name and song title. Will forever be one of my favorites. And It was in a dream I had this morning, so I had the good fortune to wake up with it playing in my head, LoL! Way to start the weekend!

Certain regions of the world have a special love for a particular group. Often, there's a reason. New Jersey it's Springsteen, Long Island / Billy Joel. Other times, there's just something that clicks. The UK will always love Queen. The French had a thing for Supertramp. New York, it was Squeeze. And when they first broke up, they held their farewell concert at Long Island's Nassau Coliseum (one of the few places where they could fill an entire sports arena). Glenn Tilbrook got on stage and actually stated that he had no idea why NY loved them so much but here they were. Neither did I. But the first time I heard this song on the radio, driving on the LI Expressway, the only thing I could do when it was over was shout (out loud and alone) "holy shit!" I was one of those blown-away New Yorkers. There's something about Squeeze that appealed to us and for the life of me I cannot figure out what! But, damn, I love them.
@sjthom69898 жыл бұрын
Don't know either but you guys have excellent taste, that's for sure. When Argybargy came out...YES, blown away. While driving in northern NJ and into NYC, I heard "Neil Jung" by Teenage Fan Club on the radio and was blown away as well. They NEVER played that kinda stuff in SW Virginia, where I lived at the time. In the early 80's..."Let it Grow" on the FM, by Eric Clapton...the list goes on and on. I now moved back to MD and have a better chance of visiting my extended family in northern NJ. I love New York...Period.

I was at that Nassau Coliseum show!!! They were great and the Stray Cats opened op for them. (Byran Setzer fell off the stage and broke a wrist). Great memories!!!!!!
@arkady7148 жыл бұрын
That's nuts. Setzer's from Massapequa, you know. Funny thing is that when the Stray Cats first hit the scene, people thought they were British. I personally was never that nuts about them. I also wonder if it might have been LI who loved Squeeze the most. One cool thing was being in this jappy boutique at the Walt Whitman Mall (I'm from Suffolk) with my sister. Argy Bargy was playing on a stereo there and all this one chick did when the album side finished was simply place the needle back at the beginning of the disc. WPLJ played them first, so that meant Westchester and The City. Heck, East Side Story (which I had on cassette) stayed in my car's tape deck for an entire school year. It really did!
