Thank you so much, KEXP! It’s always been a dream of ours to do a session live from this studio - it was absolutely surreal. If you want to catch us on tour we'll be hitting the US/Canada in March & have a bunch of UK/EU dates kicking off in April: brightgreenfield.squidband.uk/tour Hope to see some of you there!

As someone who can't drum or sing, I'm always thoroughly impressed by those that can do both. This guy though... peak performance while doing insane cardio and nonchalantly wearing a thick woolen sweater and a sailor cap... dude's a litteral machine. has to be. Don't let this guy do the olympics is what I'm saying, it wouldn't be fair to anyone else.

There is something insane happening here in the UK in the past 5 or so years and going strong. Maybe the hopelessness that is felt in this island by people of the age range of all these band members is driving some unhinged creative superhigh. There's nothing really to lose, so throw it all out there peeps. The only reason I live in London is the music scene, honest to god. Also, whatever KEXP is paying Kevin Suggs, it will never be enough. Every session with him as the sound engineer sounds out of this world. You could release all the KEXP sessions onto physical media and they'd be must-owns.

You're very, very welcome @Gareth Johnson! Kevin, Tom, and indeed all the engineers and crew at KEXP are wonderful to work with. Whenever I walk in their doors, I know it's gonna be a fun and friendly session. Honestly, I still get more jitters stepping up to that broadcast desk than I've gotten from pretty much any venue desk in years. Mixing this Fall tour was the most consistently good time I've had on the faders since since live music all but died in early 2020, and having it documented in this KEXP session is the icing on the cake.

I'm just overwhelmed, link the presenter says: it's an incredible mix, beautiful sound. It demands your full attention. In my experience it usually goes one of three ways: drone noise, incredibly difficult dissonance or complex but fairly simple (banal) weiving. Not in this case, they manage to keep it all at 120%, never easy, never tiring, never banal. Incredible discovery, i hope they continue on this journey for a long time!

This could be the most exciting time for uk rock music since the early 80s. What these kids ( Squid, Shame, Black Midi, Fontaines DC) are creating is so new. It boggles me how they all sing like Mark E Smith without probably ever hearing of The Fall. Maybe they were fans of Protomartyr and Preoccupations. Whatever it is, it just feels so organic and they all seem to be influenced by what their contemporaries are doing and not trying to rehash something from the past. Each one have all forged their own unique sound and identity and Im loving it.
