Yeah, even though it’s most of the main characters on that team so you don’t feel like they will lose in the end…it’s still very effective!

"Oppa" is the casual word for "older brother" in Korean, primarily used by a female to an older male. (The equivalent for a male to an older male is "hyung.") "Oppa" can also be used as a pet name for couples, like a girlfriend to a boyfriend. "Appa" (sounds like the name of the Avatar: The Last Airbender character) is the casual/informal word for "dad."

just like "senpai". 😆

to add oppa or hyung shouldn'y be used if they ur daddy's age lol because that's weird or disgusting af

I'm seriously loving these reactions, thank you React Pack

Oppa means elder brother, but it's also used by young girlfriends for an older boyfriend, which is why they translate it as "babe". Mi-nyeo using it is an attempt at manipulation, maybe to appear a bit submissive, definitely to act as if she's much younger (and more naive) than she is. At least that's my interpretation. 😄

22:56 The word "oppa" is a name that a younger woman calls an older man when she is in a close relationship in Korea. It is usually used when the age difference is within 10 years.

OPPA is how a sister calls their older brother and HYUNG is how a brother calls their older brother (which is what Ali now calls Sangwoo.) When OPPA is used by non-family members, its trying to emulate closeness & respect like one would do to a family member. And on the other side, a brother calls older sister NOONA and a sister calls older sister UNNI.

one of the things that's uncomfortable about Squid Game is that it sort of peels away at the lie we all live by with civility, we tell ourselves that we'd never do stuff like this, but let me ask you. Whoever you are reading this, supply chains drop dead quick as anything tomorrow and the food at the store is gone in a day. You know your elderly neighbour has a pantry full of canned food and there's riots going on in the city because of the lack of food. Things aren't going to get better quickly and you don't have much in your house as you're like most people, aware of the chance of no food appearing but never think it'll happen and have at best if you're frugal, a months worth of food in the house. You ask your neighbour to share their food and they tell you - through the locked door they don't open - they have nothing and to leave them alone. You saw the delivery trucks over the last six months delivery what could be a years supply of food and the neighbour is fearful of you taking it. Are you really going to let yourself and your loved ones go hungry because of that person? You'll want to say no immediately, it's built into us that civility is how we live. But that's a lie, the adage of eating each other being a week away if the trucks stop moving isn't a joke, you'd rationalise it away and justify it via already having 'tried' to ask them and getting them being selfish in the response. Then file it away as a good act you're doing to save your family. Which you'd do, just like any of us, if you can't trust someone they aren't worth your time and will be gotten rid of in a case of this sort of extreme.

korean have a really funny(?) way of spelling korean words with English alphabets, here are the easier versions to help you get the pronunciations down- Gi-hun -> Ghee-hoon (Ghee as in McGhee) Deok-su -> Duck-soo Sae-byeok -> Sa-byuk (Sa as in when you say Sammy)
