I've been playing guitar since 1987 and I've had about 6 Classic Vibes. At the moment I have two, a Strat and a Tele. The Tele was upgraded from top to bottom inside out and the Strat is fully stock. I have other guitars that cost 3 times as much and seriously the C. Vibes are fantastic, you can gig with them 7 days a week and they hold up fine, they sound and look great so yeah between a guitar that costs 1200 bucks and a C. Vibe I like them both ... BTW, I never pay more than 1200 bucks for any guitar cuz after that price point you're just paying American labor and not quality. You can buy a guitar for 1000 bucks and then spend 300 or 400 more on upgrades and you have an unbelievable guitar, far better than anything stock for 1400 bucks.

A good friend of mine had just bought one of these classic vibe strats in fiesta red for his grandfather who had a band in the 50's playing all the highschool dances. He still has his original 55 in two tone sunburst but it's in rough shape and he doesn't have the heart to take it out and play it anymore. So when he opened the box he was amazed to find the great quality and how pretty accurate the squire was to the original fenders back then. He plays it all the time and loves it. I have one myself and can't put it down. They are awesome guitars and I would highly recommend them. Not just for beginners but for intermediate and expert players too.

Could you describe the upgrades you made? The reason I'm asking is a CV 50ies (Fiesta as well ;-)) from the Made in China Series I bought last year. Up until now I was able to resist any modification urge. I find the tuners significantly better than on Indonesian made guitars (got a Tele Custom, the tuners suck). I'd change the trem system and maybe the electronics, the pickups seem fine to me. What do you think?
@russpettifer52164 жыл бұрын
Had the Classic Vibe for about two years now. I wanted it specifically for the alnico 3 pickups but at a price point where i wouldn't be panicked to take it out to gig. I did replace the tuners with Hipshot locking. In a word - it's an amazing guitar that has seen it become my "player" for most occasions....truly a great instrument.

I bought three of them from previous runs (I guess around 2011/12) and love to play them. The best one is definitely the 50´s in two-tone sunburst, but they all are good if not excellent value for the bucks. One of them, a fiesta red 50´s model, was sold privately as used. The guy who sold it was not an experienced player, and when he heard me play it, he asked me to do him a favor and play his American Standard in comparison. I noticed him becoming a bit concerned and then he said that he was unsure if the Squier did not sound better (and I think he was right). So I got a bit nervous that he might withdraw the offer, because the price was good and I wanted that fiesta red color because at that time they were not produced any more. But he was fair enough not to do so.

I bought one of these off as my first electric guitar. Great sound, action and pickups oitbif the box. In 12 yrs only had to set the bridge twice. I do however find the polyurethane finish quite annoying. When I play, sweat, get dirty it slides off my lap and feel I don't have control when it slides around. I had to sand down the area below the pickguard to keep it steady on my leg and also the area above the bridge to allow my forearm to lock. Probably going to smooth it over with nitro lacquer to protect the wood. If you are worrying about fading and getting these work out, they won't! The finish is essentially a layer of hard plastic. I dropped it few times and wasn't until the 100th time did the finish eventually chip haha. Great guitar though! You will not go wrong.

Great demo! I first got a 60s Classic Vibe Stratocaster. I liked it a lot but I felt it lacked punch and personality. Then I saw Fender blowing this exact model out for a ridiculously low price. I used to own a 1956 baby blue Stratocaster in mint condition and very much missed having a maple neck Strat. These arrived and I was immediately struck by how much heavier the 50s model is than the 60s model. On top of that, these 50s models are made with the same exact kinds of woods the original Strats were made out of. Pine for the body and one piece Maple necks as well as very high quality Alnico pickups. Rounding out the feature set is original Kluson open shaft tuners and a vintage style synchronized tremolo system. These 50s models are the absolute best value in Stratocasters in the world today! They have enormous mojo and you will be glad you bought one and I’m betting that you won’t want to put it down. It comes with 9-42 set. As soon as I put a 10-46 set on it, it came alive.

Hi Jack, thanks for the great videos. Nice job as always. I have a classic vibe strat that I bought for my son about 8 years ago and it's still a fantastic guitar. I also own two classic vibe tele's as well. My son and I do a gig every year for the Largo Botanical Gardens Holiday Lights show. We play a variety of music ranging from The Ventures (who are good friends of ours) to modern day music. Daniel just decided this year to use his classic vibe again and when he took it out of the case after a couple of years of not playing it at all it was almost still in tune. The G string wen6 stule t a little flat but that was it. They are a great guitar. We also own 138 guitars ranging from my original 57 strat, Les Pauls, 335's , Epi's, Alvarez, Ibanez, Ramirez classical etc you name it. So he has a lot to choose from but he love the classic vibe. I have been playing guitar since I was about 8 years old and now an 70 and still gigging. LOL. I started Daniel out of violin but he saw me playing my guitar one night and wanted to switch so I taught him to play. Now he's doing stuff like copying Tommy Emmanuel note for note. We love music and our guitars. Oh before I forget, if you haven't already done so check out Wolf Guitars. They are also amazing instruments. They make Les Paul, Tele, 335 and PRS copies but are great quality. They are sold by All In One Guitars. They even come set up to your specs before they are shipped. The tech from All In One calls you up or sends an email asking yow you want it set up and it comes exactly that way. Their workmanship is wonderful and they play great and sound amazing. The best part is they only cost about $499 including a hard shell case. It's one of the best bang for the bucks out there today. I have the LP style and the 335 style and am ordering the Tele and PRS style as well. Sorry for the long comment. Hope it's not too much to read. Amazing sound, I have the same guitar and it is fantastic! I kept everything stock apart from sanding the gloss off the neck and it feels 100x better. I would strongly recommend everyone to try this out extensively before purchasing a Fender, you will be in for a real treat. Some cons though is the saddle screw to adjust the string action and truss rod screw on mine stripped after 1 year of ownership. The gloss can be removed off the back of the neck, but not on the fretboard unless you are skilled enough, so you will not get that satin/natural-like feeling of the board. The neck will also be thinner than your MiM Strat, so if you do a lot of chording, you may not enjoy it as much as a fatter neck (preference). All of the cons mentioned apart from the screw stripping you will know before buying so no surprises there, and even then the pickups, playability, and mojo alone will make you love this.
@michaskup79193 жыл бұрын
Sanding neck was best idea ever. I did this to one of my CS50's and now it feels like totaly different guitar which was used for years. I love this guitar. If you dont like gloss neck - buy this guitar and sand it. You will be amazed.
@AxemanMessiah3 жыл бұрын
@@michaskup7919 Word, it does make all the difference. The downside is the CV neck is substantially smaller post sanding, the gloss layers are incredibly thick! Definitely not a chunky Fender neck post sanding.

@@michaskup7919 I sold my CV and got a Fender Player, it has very light satin finish to no sanding work is needed unless you want bare-natural feeling. Neck is a bit thicker,, body has less gloss, and saddles have Fender branding on them so high grade steel vs the tin/cooper infusion on the Squier (which may have been the cause of my screw stripping). I have a feeling the frets will last longer with higher grade nickel vs mixed as well. The pickups/sound is on the same level as the CV though, not better. Would recommend as a upgrade, the cost is more but the value is even bigger than the CV after owning and inspecting both.

I have the same guitar, but in a lefty version from 2014 haven't changed a thing. it sounds good with the tonerider pickups that use to supply fender squiers. Nice playing as usual.

I own a CV 50 2015. It's a very good guitar with good pickups. They say that they could be a sort of tonerider pickups (tonerider surfari). My only complaint is about the nickel plated parts, especially the input jack and the junction plate between the neck and the body. They tend to become oxidized very soon (in a few months). I own other squier strats but I didn't have that issue with them. I'm curious to know how the new CV model sound compared to the old one version since they have different pickups...

I just got one of the White Blonde last week and love it. I played a Vintera Strat and a Silver Sky earlier today and prefer the Classic Vibe over both. I'm planning upgrades to Gotoh locking tuners and Seymour Duncan Hot Stack strat pickups, but the guitar itself is great.

Hello. Please let me know if the tremelo works well for the classic vibe 50 Stratocaster? Does it have enough play? Does it mess up the tuning?

Hi Jack. Nice review. I have several Squiers that play and sound great. I usually roll edges, etc. on the less expensive ones and changed the pups on one to alnico ($20.00) on Amazon. No need to spend more. I have spent far too much so many times over 55 years of play with no upside.I"m just as happy with the least expensive ones. I gig, record and noodle and actually feel a little embarrassed and arrogant playing higher end stuff. Just me..... Thanks!

Hi there, I've been playing for 37 years, but while I'm advanced on classical guitar, on electric I'm probably intermediate level. I am lucky enough to own a 2000 USA standard Strat (maple board), but I'd like to get a rosewood (ish) board Strat, so I'm looking at the CV 60s. From what I've seen, they sound really good.

I noticed that they're doing the sunburst finishes much smoother on the newer ones. I remember the original CV's had kind of an abrupt transition from the brown to the black and it looked sort of splotchy. This one looks way more gradual, like an old Fender.

Are the solid colors nyatoh or pine at random? I see one over 9lbs (fiesta) and another under 7 in a showcase. It's still real bone nut? I'm trying to get a new/mint one discounted online but don't want 9lbs. My Charvel is 8lbs and want well under that for running through a Champion 600 and undersized cowboy hat.

Got mine. Put a 57 / 62 pick guard assembly in, replaced the tremolo with an American vintage. Now it’s pretty much a 57 reissue for a quarter the price. Plays and sounds great. BTW for now, I’m keeping the cheep tuners until they no longer stay in tune. No modifications were done.

Thank you Mr. Fosset, now that's what I call a guitar demo! Got me the Fiesta Red one with the gold plated hardware. Don't know why really, guess I would like to find out if I got a bit of Hank Marvin-Buddy Holly in me... Been playing (well, practicing that is...) for a year or two now, and I actually kinda like the warm, rich, sometimes even dark sound of the Fender wide range humbuckers for my jazzy stuff and power cords. But I wanted a strat, and your vid convinced me of bying one of these babies. Hope I'll find some cool sounds out of the Mustang lll that go with the single coils, which I'm gonna have to get used to. Absolutely love your sound, GREAT playing, hope I'll ever get there... Cheerio!

I got a 50s and 60s version. Or had and still kinda have ! The 60s candy apple red strat I got for a really cheap price. Had it for a while but I had a chance to get a Japanese Squier e series strat. Man what a guitar that is ! Although the pickups sounded far better on the CV. Luckily within a very short time I found someone selling a set of 60s CV pickups for 30 euros ! So yeah I sold the 60s CV. But I have also a 50s CV in white with the gold anodised guard. Even better than the 60s Squier. Anyway I am a Greco fan. Having a 70s strat and a Super real Les Paul. Well an advert came up for a 50s Greco strat that I just had to have. I sold a Blade R4 that I wasnt playing that much to pay for it and the plan was... is... to sell the 50s CV and downsize my collection a little. Man these Squiers are so good kinda hard to let this one go !!

My 75 Strat came with a 3-way switch. I used to have to place it in the in-between spot which was a real hassle so shortly afterward I had a five way switch installed. I could never understand why Fender didn’t have a five way to begin with. My pal Robert had an original 54 and this thing looks and sounds just like it. I didn’t like the fat neck compared to my 75. Which by the way, I was never too crazy about either. I eventually sold my 75, which was a mistake, but I never did like the neck. Nice review. Finally, what do you think about the tremolo on that? Does it stay in tune if you use it quite a bit or dive bomb?

Very nice Guitag, I recently bought a 60s Classic Vibe in lake placid blue for my son (and me), that color cought my eye right away and so I convinced him to pick this one instead of a black/white one he was looking for ;-) I'm a beginner but with an obsession for good equipment... so I wanted something that's not over the top but still give me the feeling of having something really worthy in my hands that just works. These Classic Vibes from Squier are just that! They look soooooo good and play very nice as far as I can tell, I mean I have no issues playing this guitar, it stays in tune very well (as long as you don't mess with the trem too much), the neck was straight and no fret issues. Action also was totally fine, it might be a bit higher because of the smaller fingerboard radius but I'm used to my western style acoustic and so that doesn't bother me at all. I think, for me, I would use 10 gauge strings istead of the 9 that it came with because the 9 gauge seem to cause some buzzing (esp. on the low e) when I play but I thinkg it's because I'm playing it a bit too hard because I'm so used to ... maybe I'll adapt to it after a while, if not I'll put 10 gauge strings on.

Hi Jack. I have a Classic Vibe but am thinking of buying a USA Stratocaster that should be similar to Squier but ash body and better paint and nitrocellulose. which model corresponds to similar spec on the neck and is more in the professional direction.
@ryankrueger48004 жыл бұрын
I just purchased a fiesta red 50s. I would put these up against the Standards of about 10-20 years ago. Depending on the amp it's played through, this is a serious professional instrument. I'm really impressed by the pickups. What is your opinion of the tuners? What would be replacements?
@JackFossett4 жыл бұрын
The best vintage style tuners for a reasonable price IMO are Gotohs, but you may need to get different press fit bushings for them to fit. Klusons are also great and may install easier.
@graphicartdude4 жыл бұрын
I find these cheaper guitars tend to sound thin and lacking depth especially with strumming. And the trem systems are useless for whammy bar use. I might still pick one up cheap though. I’m looking for a thicker Gilmour rock tone or maybe a Pearl Jam Strat tone. Any recommendations on which pickups would sound best for that sort of tone? I think Gilmour played Seymour Duncan. Would be cool to see someone demoing this guitar in that style. Anyway, thanks for the great demo.

I'm a fart-like 67 yrs old and I needed a Fender sound in my arsenal and being a decent player I didn't need a foo foo Fender so about 3 years ago I popped for the 50's CV Strat in 2 tone burst and I am quite frankly blown away. Mine is made in China. I see now they are made in Indonesia which imo isn't as good as the Chinese CNC, but I wonder - have you had a chance to A-B a Chinese CV v. Indonesian CV Strat? Also, I guess they knew they were a steal because they were $350 when I got mine fr. Sweetwater because they are now $400 and Indonesian. The Tele CVs seem to be both Chinese and Indonesian depending on which store you buy it from. Great review and playing as usual !!! 🎸🎶

Great clip Jack, I just dropped in a new set of the CV 50's pickups in a 1988 MIJ Strat and I feel like I have a whole new guitar. It's a bit bright but has nice mid range harmonics. Wanted to ask I noticed on the SS you're playing through it looks like you have the treble all the way down ? Is that correct and if so is that due to the brightness of the pickups ? I need to get my hands on a GE-7 to see if that will help me trim down some of the top end and keep the midrange focus. Thx and Happy New Year
