I've read countless reviews on these Chinese Squier CV Teles and never understood all the fuss. Two days ago I bought a used one for $300. Now I get it. This plays better than my Fender Jimmy Page Dragon Tele and has been getting more play time than my 2019 Gibson Les Paul Traditional. "Classic Vibe" really suits it. It has a great vibe all it's own. Great video! 👍

Bought a used 50s Classic Vibe Tele, Butterscotch, a number of years ago for $360 CDN. I also have a MIA 1994 Strat and 2011 G&L ASAT. That said, I absolutely LOVE this guitar. I upgraded to CTL pots, USA made switch, Switchcraft jack and push back wire. I did NOT upgrade the pups. Then I took a sanding sponge, great idea Darrell, and went to town on the back of the neck almost to bare wood and sanded and filed all fret ends. This makes it feel a million years old (it actually "rolls" the fretboard) and the back of the neck actually looks like a reliced guitar. The upgraded electronics made a huge difference in tone, so much that I haven't yet replaced the pickups. Bottom line is this is a great guitar and is now my #1, play it every day.

I play 16 instruments and I write commercially licensed music mainly nowadays as a songwriter/composer (under performance rights organization BMI, Inc). Since the early 1980s, I've owned many guitars, and I can set them up and upgrade the electronics myself. I've actually used electric guitars in the $100.00 range to write, record music and gain direct payouts and royalties. As long as the electric guitar sounds good and plays well, and as you have in your video you like the guitar, that's what matters most. One of the best guitars that I ever bought is was a few years ago, a red sparkle color Squier Bullet Telecaster around the $170.00 USD mark. It's the very first guitar that I ever received new "out of the box" that did not need a complete setup! Only brought the string saddles down like a tiny bit. Maybe I lucked out but I'm leaving it 100% stock. It's not the first or only telecaster that I own, but it's my favorite. The Telecaster is one guitar that is the "jack of all trades" meaning it can fit right in with many styles/genres. I hope you and everyone that reads my post, has a great upcoming holiday season, all the best!

Agreed. After 55+ years and embarrassingly too many guitars of all price ranges, the one I record and gig with is a 2003 Squier Affinity. I did add a center chrome topped single coil and mini toggle in the middle for some Strat quack. Wore out the frets, replaced them. Wore them out again and because of wood divots, replaced the neck with a Mity Mite Fender licensed tele neck. Has exactly the same shape and specs. At that time the Squier cost $120.00 USD. Still going strong. Thanks!!

I love my Squier Classic Vibe ‘50’s Telecaster too, but it’s a tad heavy at 9lbs., so I’ve routed a “Smugglers Rout” underneath the pickguard, along with a arm cut & a belly carve - taking over 2lbs off of it. I’ve upgraded the tuners, the saddles to compensated GraphTech saddles, & I’ve replaced the neck with a short scale - 24.75” Gibson Scale with a compound radius of 10”-16” from Warmoth. Now it’s an even greater guitar than when I bought it 6 years ago.

im relatively new to guitar, playing for just under 6 months, been fortunate and lucky that I already have a good selection; Ibanez Gio GRG121 Epiphone Black Beauty 3 Vintage V300 Acoustic Gear4Music Round back Electro-Acoustic Hofner Shorty with Gotoh Bridge And of course my butterscotch CV 50 Squier I absolutely love my CV 50 Tele I pick it up more than any other guitar but i also 100% agree the black beauty 3 is just such a stunning look, feel and tone of a guitar to play that when im not using the tele the les paul is next on the list. I love the gloss neck and first guitar with 9s which i thought I'd hate but quickly fell in love with them.

I really enjoyed this video. Anyone whose played guitar for years has seen guitars come and go. Some regrets, some disappointments, but memories made. One of my favourite guitars is still a 91 squier strat, found under a sofa in a student house. 'Better' guitars can't touch it.

Mate, great all round video, you've summed up my current situation perfectly and I"ve been playing for 40yrs. For all the expensive guitars I have, my cheapest, the $700 Chinese Fender Tele Thinline is by far my favourite, though I"m wanting to spend big bucks for more, it's actually the playing and tone I enjoy. Guess it's all part of the journey :)

Squire Classic Vibe. Where to start. I own a newer model Player Series Stratocaster and a newer Classic Vibe 50s Stratocaster. Side by side comparison, the Classic Vibe to me gets better tone, more vintage and a warmer tone. Hard to beat. I bought the Player before I bought the Classic Vibe, wish I would have saved the money. I picked up a set of 57/62 RWMP pickups and I am hoping I can get close to the Classic Vibe with those. I ordered a Classic Vibe Telecaster today and it should be here in 2 or 3 days. If it`s anything close to the CV Strat no need to get the Fender. These Classic Vibes are really something else. I don`t play professionally but if I did, I would hesitate to play this on stage. When I reach for one of my guitars to plug in for a good sit down, it`s the CV Strat I reach for. They are amazing guitars for the money and they really do give the Player series a hard run for the money. In some cases, they are actually even better :)

Wow. This video made me feel great. I have been going through a dilemma with do I upgrade my classic vibe (cheapest electric I’ve owned and the only one at this time)? I LOVE the guitar. It brings me great joy when I play it and I paid $300. I’ve thought several times about upgrading just so it says “fender”. Videos like this help people like me get to the place you describe in your closing remarks. Thank you for this and I look forward to seeing more of your videos 🙏🏼

A lot of custom build Tele’s don’t have a name on the headstock . Sand the finish and the Squier logo off the front of the headstock and respray clear on it. You could put a star or other symbol on it first!

I agree with you 100% about the American 60s Strat. I’m a lefty so I bought the only one I could which was the Olympic white with mint pickguard. Mine was also zeroing out at the high frets especially on the e string. Looking to flip it soon. One of my favourite guitars to play in my collection is my Harley Benton CST24 which only cost me $270 AUD. By comparison the fender Strat original American 60s cost me $2,300 AUD.

I got my CV50 a couple months ago (steal at $313) added brass saddles, new tuners...loved it! Then threw in some Lindy Fralins (and then disconnected tone pot from neck)....wow...adore it. It's much more expensive siblings are jealous given how often I play my CV. It resembles the Tele I played in college in the early 80's. Lost interest in single coils up until a year or two ago...now I'm all about Tele's again...because of a $300 guitar.

Thanks Jules. After seeing this I looked around for a 70s Classic Vibe Thinline - found a Factory refurbished with a new Fender serial number - for $300.00 US. It's perfect and plays great. Needed about an hour of fret dressing, strings & setup but that s fine. Only mods I'm doing is Kluson tuners and Tusq string tree. $300 well spent thanks again.

I've been a bit of a guitar snob over the years... owning a core PRS custom 24, CE 24, Gibson Les Paul, American standard fender stratocaster, etc... but when I went to the guitar store with my son yesterday I played a telecaster fender player against a bullet squier and the bullet sounded significantly warmer, fuller, and better. It definately didn't look as nice and the construction wasn't as nice as the Fender but it shockingly sounded much better. I've owned a affinity televin the last but it didn't sound great and wouldn't stay in tune... and intonation off. So I just ordered a classic vibe. If it sounds terrible I'll send it back and just buy a dirt cheap bullet...
@thadlogan51
@thadlogan51 2 жыл бұрын
FYI .. I got the CV and it is phenomenal... one of the best guitars I've ever owned period. I bought a fender performer telecaster too and it sounds completely different than the CV. The CV is brighter and snappier...the performer warmer and fuller... but both epic just different. I also just ordered a fender professional but haven't received the package yet. But at the end of the day the cheaper squier telecasters sound outstanding. The bullet didn't quite look and feel like my more expensive guitars but the sound was outstanding. The bullet sounds more like my American performer and the CV sounds more like the fender 52 telecaster blonde with make neck. Totally different tones but all great. I didn't care as much for the player and affinity ones... I didn't like the pickups... seemed a little lifeless but not bad and cash be swapped easily. You don't need to spend a lot these days to get good tone. I spend big bucks on guitars because I'm rich and have nothing else to spend my money on lol... but doesn't mean I'm getting a better guitar or better tone just different... again that CV 50s I have is as good as it gets regardless of price... but depends on tone you want. If you want a specific tone you need to pay for it. Like my PRS core 24... there are lots of good cheaper versions that sound amazing in their own rite... but nothing sounds exactly the same as the real thing.

True about the jackson floyd rose. I got a js32 for £270. The most I've spent on a guitar. Bought it online so hadn't played it. I loved the look in snow white. Didn't get on with the floyd rose so hardly played it. Just stuck with my cheap strat copy. Thought about selling it but after watching some you tube vids I decided to block the trem with some wood and card. Now it's my favourite guitar. Never goes out of tune and sounds great. Still just a cheap guitar really but could have got the same cheaper without the floyd rose. So if you got a floyd rose and don't get on with it try locking it up by jamming it in place with something (you can buy proper locking and adjustment springs but they were expensive. By the way I haven't got much to compare it to. I've never played a fender or gibson

I've had a TE52. It was indeed very good for the money. I let it go because my girlfriend gifted me a Fender Player Tele. It was a bit of a boat anchor and the (almost) 14 inch fretboard radius was a bit flat to my taste, but it did sound and play great. Would definitely recommend it (if you can live with the weight and the fretboard radius).

Great video, lovely playing and very nice tones! Interesting comment re the Floyd Rose, I have a Tokai Strat that back in the late 80s acquired a Floyd, for me it's been set and forget. I never need to touch it and of course its always in tune. I don't dive bomb, just some shimmer, but the previous system (POS Rockinger that it came with) couldn't cope with even that.

First generation Classic Vibe Squiers (2008-2019) were the best after the JV series (1982-1984). The new ones are meh. These had perfect luthery (the necks mostly). Great pickups. Nickel hardware that will last. My favourite bass guitar ever is a Squier Classic Vibe 1st gen, too. I got 5 necks now on different bodies, but only one CV 1st Gen body (basswood, which was the downside for bass guitars).

*4 necks from Classic Vibe series and 1 of them is actually a Fender (Modern Player series), made in the same factory of Grand Reward EE, China. Just it is chunkier, which suits the bass body it is mounted on.

I had thinline modern player tele, neck was identical to the classic vibe and it was also an amazing guitar.

@@JulesGuitar I have no doubt. My modern player neck is chunkier than my 4 classic vibe neck and they're all solid af!

Hi Jules, Jues here, gonna try and find one as I have missed my 1950's original since it vanished over 20 years ago, blonde too. I got a Japanese 52 and it actually blew the original one away tonewise.From your viddy I get the feeling the original blueprints were used to build these new ones. It sounds great! How does it sound at loud rock n roll gigging volume?
@JulesGuitar
@JulesGuitar 2 жыл бұрын
It sounds great, but the bridge pickup is definitely where the rock n roll tones are at, neck position is a little bland to me. It’s fairly low output, so doesn’t drive the amp super hard… operates more in the classic rock/blues zone.
