Thanks for an excellent and informative video. Have you had a chance to compare either of these guitars with the Squier Classic Vibe 50s Telecaster? I’m not a fan of binding on Teles, which has me leaning towards the CV 50s model. Other videos I’ve watched and reviews I’ve read list the CV 50s and 40th Anniv models relatively equal and your comments about pickups are the first notable difference I’ve heard about the Squiers, so I’m wondering if you have similar insights about the CV 50s model.

I actually had a cv 50 for a week, but it was so damned heavy. I just couldn’t deal. It’s a nice sounding guitar, but I felt the 60 was more my personal style and feel.

Got the 40th Vintage Strat, swapped in a 500K volume pot and a balancing resistor on the bridge pickup to brighten up the neck and middle. Could work on the dark Tele neck, it's certainly inexpensive to try.

Recently bought a couple CV50's Teles to compare with my other high end Teles from USA/Japan....and I"m floored. Added Fralin Blues Special to one....Lollar Special T in the other...and the neck positions (where I spend 90%) is simply magical in both (Lollars in particular). I also added brass saddles, fixed sitar sound from high E, replaced a tuner or two...and disconnected neck from tone pot. LOVE THESE TWINS....other 20 guitar will have to wait til I get bored of Teles. Got my son a CV 60's baritone this time last year...for $299 new...very nice indeed.

Why you disconnect the tone pote from the neck pc?
@lazvt8469
@lazvt8469 4 ай бұрын
@@dimitris70 Many feel most neck pups on Teles can be a bit dark/warm. Few use their tone pot (except maybe hardcore jazzers) to adjust/warm/darken the neck...so, it's superflous to begin with. This mod gives the neck a bump in output and clarity with no added cost...and it's easy to do.

Genius upgrades mate… I, also, am a proud owner of a stunning Satin Vintage Blonde 40th Anniversary Tele. I was floored when I received the item from Amazon for $300. Similarly to you, I added compensated brass saddles, added A250K CTS pots, Fender tone saver .05 capacitor, 4-way switch with access to series, vintage string guide. I am in love with it. I am looking for a good deal on a proper set of pickups to get closer to where I want it. It’s a lovely journey this of upgrading and tinkering with our instruments.

I bought this one 100% knowing I wanted a tele but also wanted a bit of a project. This one felt better than the made in Mexico and US models I tried in store so I figured if nothing else I'd just swap out the pickups and have something sounding just as nice. I agree about the neck pickup. I raised mine a lot and it sounds much, much, better but still not as sparkly as what I was hoping for. Not sure exactly how to shop for pickups but that's what I'm trying to figure out now.

I'm planning to swap them out with some Lindy Fralin Blues Special pickups. look them up on here, the tone is very vintage and beautiful. Granted they're a little pricey but still cheaper than buying a MiM Tele when all is said and done. You can also get the Fender Vintera 50s or 60s pickups set for like $90 which are the same pickups they use in their 50s/60s MiM Ventera Teles.

i had a 2014 cv 60s and i have the red 40th now. my experience is different. my cv 60s was much lighter and not pine, the 50s cv is pine. the pickups were good in both, i never use the neck pickup alone though. the 60s cv made my fret hand cramp up and had a rubber neck. my 40th has the best neck i have experienced on any fender, i still want a tele that plays as good as a jackson though...

I have the yellowish 40th and its my number one now. Ahead of two fenders and five or six other Squizzies, it beats them all. I have Don Mare Hayride and his regular Alnico 5 in them. The bridge and saddles are from Glendale. It just jumped the line somehow. Straight to the front. It buzzes in my body the most when not plugged in. I've seen other people's yellow 40th and the paint is crazy thin. Easily see the grain and the separate pieces. Wish I'd gotten that sort, and half the ferrules did fall out on mine. But outside that, great platform.

I've just a set of AlNiCo pickups and a never used (swapped immediately for a 4-way) switch taken from a 2003 Standard MIM Fender Tele, plus a set of Classic 60's threaded steel saddles (also Fender original). What do you think? I'd pull the trigger, I'm SO tempted... I could upgrade this axe myself, for free. Opinions/advices? Tx
@misterreality
@misterreality 8 ай бұрын
Honestly a four way switch would add some versatility. The saddles are a cheap but very effective upgrade. That’s the first move I’d make. I don’t think the bridge pup was terrible, but that neck pickup stock is awful. That and the pots changed and your golden.

I loved the neck, frets, and finish. Agree 100% that the neck pickup is too dark. Mine wouldn't stay in tune, and three of the tuners had far too much slop (play). I returned mine, purely as a financial calculation (original cost + upgrades + likely mediocre resale value). I'm really puzzled why they chose that neck pickup.

I returned mine the following day. I love my CV Custom tele, which is dialed in. If I didn’t have one, I’m not sure I’d know the difference between the two, but my opinion, the Anniversary models are a downgrade between the two. That neck pickup was so bad, considering how the pups have been on the cv line, was not something even usable. Thanks for watching!

Just received mine from musicians friend. Don't do it. Ordered mine and should have received a email saying it was shipped. Two days later contacted them because I had heard nothing. They email me then and said it would be here tomorrow. It arrived. Was supposed to be factory packed but was a repack. One strip of tape on the top and bottom flaps. Bubbled wrapped very poorly with some paper stuffed around it. I could reach in through the top and pull the guitar out. The guitar had a big chunk on the back side next to binding knock out. The tuners are cheap trash and the neck pickup sucks. They said that this was in stock but they shipped it out of New Orleans guitar center. Their shipping clerk should be fired. Looked like a seven year old packed the box. As for it being in stock in the warehouse as the Web site said. It will not be in stock till March 2024 for dakota red. Looks like new management has done nothing for musicians friend. Big disappointment. I will never order from them again. Beware.

These guitars don't sound any worse than american vintage ones. They even look equally authentic. However, there is a one disadvantage to them (my personal opinion). Their necks feel like they're made for kids. Can't understand why almost every manufacturer is thinning necks with each iteration - maybe cause of the chinese market. Don't know, but it sucks.
