I think this guitar is designed for rock, you're playing licks made for a traditional Telecaster - my observation. Turn up the gain and hit some power chord riffs.

Pulse2AM IMO hiding behind a ton of gain doesn’t really show off the guitar or the player.

I have one and they're pretty hot pickups. They do sound great with a little distortion and playing some rock and blues, but clean leaves a bit to be desired. I might replace the pickups/pots and tuners in the future.

I bought one in white - beautiful finish with no flaws in this one. Replaced tuners, string trees and saddles. The neck is excellent with no sharp fret edges, the nut is cut perfectly and it plays very nicely. I may put in new pickups for a sweeter clean sound, but stock aren’t as uninspiring as you’ve described. Maybe you got a crummy one. I’ve had high dollar instruments that left me feeling flat, too, so I don’t blame this on price. With new pickups I dare say few would be able to tell by feel whether it’s a Squier or Fender.

Blemished - the satin 12" radius neck is what's unique about this one. Pickups are a personal taste thing and many players don't understand the differences magnets make anyway.

The sound, the bridge pickup is punchy and raunchy the way I like it. The middle position is the great Fender sound with out the single coil weakness. The body is heavy and strings are through body great sustain. I like this new radius neck fits my playing style. Fit and finish is excellent sound excellent neck excellent a steal at 349.00, I got mine for 289.00 ! Fender hit a home run!

The guitar is pretty. I love the color. The price seems high for a Squire. You can pick up MIM Teles and Strats used in like new condition for the same price or even less! Another thing is that it sounds nothing like a Tele. It needs a single coil option. Something like the rail humbuckers with a push pull switch so you can change from humbucker to single and still get that Tele sound if you want it. I'm thinking of one in my Strat bridge. Still gives the single look but you can get that humbucker "kick". Idk...just my humble opinion.

First of all, thank you for an honest review and demo and not just another bought and sold sales pitch, there are plenty enough of those on KZbin already. (You and Philip McKnight seem to be the only honest ones left out there) Fender should extend the Squire Vintage Modified line, I was very impressed with the 70s Vintage Modified Strat, the Duncan Designed pick-ups are awesome for stock. MUCH better than the stock PUs in a Mexican made Fender, no joke. A bass player friend of mine was also incredibly pleased with his Squire Vintage Modified 70s Jazz Bass as well, he owns 6-7 other bass guitars, ALL more expensive than the Squire and the Squire is his favorite. They need to focus more on the guitars coming out of Indonesia than China, in my opinion. I know tons of people love their Classic Vibe Squires, but personally, I have never played a Chinese Squire that was suitable for anything more than an absolute beginner, while Indonesian guitars seem to be getting better and better every year. I REALLY would like to see Squire come out with a Vintage Modified Tele with the standard tele pickup configuration, instead of those damned full range humbuckers. (NOT a fan) Anyway, that's just my opinion,... I'm done ranting now. Keep up the good work!

I bought one a few weeks ago on sale for $299. While I was at the shop, I also played (and tuned) an Affinity Strat, Jazzmaster, as well as a Jackson Monarkh JS22 and a few others. As much as I liked the Jazzmaster, I kept coming back to this one, even though I didn't want to spend that much money. I'm satisfied with it, but I'll probably make some electronics changes in the future, maybe even drop a push/pull in there to tap the coils. I wouldn't suggest anyone just buy a guitar online unless you've played it.

If you want a great pickup used get some Duncan Designed HB 101 set, they are Asian made SD 59s with more balls and an Alnico 5 magnet! Also you can coil tap them. The thing is with this guitar is that it has everything to keep you playing a reliable guitar with a decent neck, it also gives you the option to upgrade parts without discarding expensive parts that you pay for with usa models. The best thing is it had a decent neck and body, you can custom change other parts as you get more money and experience at your own pace. There is also the law of diminishing returns as guitars get more expensive too

"blemish" I love your honest reviews. It looks pretty but with its flaws it is disappointing. Even a big name like Fender can make poop from time to time. Fender has been using Squier as its discount brand for decades. V. C. Squier Company had a rich hstory before they were purchased by Fender. Under Fender it continued to do so at least in the beginning. Then it moved its manufacturing to Japan in the 80's to compete with the lower priced Japanese models. Production eventualy moved to Korea, China and Indonesia. So the the level of quality may been effected by this also and factory conditions. Build quality can be hit and miss.

Blemish. I was really wanting to get one of these, but hearing those pick-ups leaves me thinking I'll look more at the Slash Epi LP. I have a CV tele and absolutely love it, was expecting the Contemporary to be of similar stature. Guessing that's not the case.

Blemished! Thanks for the quality review. I just picked one of these up and I’m pretty happy with it, but they could’ve made some improvements over the last two years, or it could be a consistency issue.

TheGuitarGeek I think you’re right. The super light gauge strings from the factory don’t help either, I put some on some 10s and it made a huge difference for tone and just feeling substantial.

I just bought the Squier by Fender Affinity Telecaster on amazon for 260cdn. I was checking out this review when i realized it's not of the same guitar. Anyway i decided to get it even if it's not high quality because i love the white color, it looks nice. Seems like a good guitar to upgrade over time and make it truly unique. I bought the cherry burst telecaster for way too expensive 1 - 2 years ago and wish i hadn't...

I tried a red one, wanted to love it, but found the neck too chunky, and too pale coloured. Looked at a pearl white one that had a crack in the finish emanating from the top middle pickguard screw. The paint was actually lifted at the crack, to the point that it would be possible to slip a pick under it. Really bummed me out, since I've been interested in a 2 HB Tele with a 12" radius neck.

You should check out Schecter PT as it has the features your looking for but, I think the radius is 14"? It goes for 549 U.S. dollars though. For 649 you can buy the Fender HH tele and it comes in silver, black or white.

Must admit that I liked the sound of the pickups. They all seem to have sharp frets: I've seen other reviews that mention it and the one I tried in store was sharp enough for me to put it back on the rack without even plugging it in. Pity really as I had been wanting to buy one. Guess I'll just have to get an Affinity or Classic Vibe instead.

Blemish. Thanks for the vid, very informative. I'm hunting around for an occasional use tele and not looking to spend a fortune so the squier range is looking likely. After seeing this I'm definitely leaning towards the classic vibe custom unless I find a great deal on a used MIM.

Blemish - I liked the review just the way it was - I wouldn't want you to change a thing, after all, we came here to hear and see what you (uniquely) really think. It was funny when you declared that neither Squire nor Fender paid you for this review, though - if they had, you would be nervous every time you heard a knock on the door! Rock-on, you champion.

The reason you felt that the nut was set up so well compared to other squiers, was likely because of the neck radius itself. That radius always feels much better up at the top compared to other traditional fender radii.

What if you changed the bridge, pickups, and tuners? Wouldnt it perform like a solid guitar? Because the biggest reason someone would by it I guess is because of its cool finish.

Just tried this one out and the Affinity HH FSR one. Maybe I'm just used to the 12" radius and satin neck in general, but the contemporary felt waay better. The Affinity just felt like something I'd expect from a $150 low-end Bullet guitar, and the Contemporary was like what I've expected for $300. Sure, it needs better hardware and pickups but if you need those out of the box you might just spend $800 on it from the start.
