I bought one for my daughter for $99 new (years ago), and I am amazed by how well it sounds and plays (I also own an American Standard Stratocaster and a MIJ '62 Vintage Reissue Stratocaster)! Build quality is simple but very good (I couldn't find any flaws). The pickups output is huge, I need to turn down volume and tone to "8" to get a similar output to my other strats. Action and neck were fine out of the box. The only complaint are the crappy tuners, but once you tune it up it stays in tune pretty well and I can live with them (there are drop-in replacements from MusicLily that I read are a signigicant improvement, for around $10). All in all an impressive instrument at this price, great for traveling and/or practicing in front of the TV.

I have an older black model, that I modified to be string through, stays in tune much better. With the short scale, bends are exaggerated, which makes this an excellent blues guitar. Pole pieces have different spacing, so pickup replacement can be tricky. I also replaced the nut for one with wider string spacing, for adult hands, as there is room on the fingerboard.

Bought a 3/4 Washburn (2 humbuckers) for my son who was 6 at the time. It was OK to play. Took it to a guitar shop for proper set up and strings (for shorter scale - don't remember if they went up or down from my normal gauge) which all cost as much as the guitar. Quality control is what you are not getting, but if you can set up or know someone who can do it, these can be really nice. But this guitar is the only electric I play... so now everything else feels big and heavy :-). I will never sell that guitar... Luke even had a go on it and signed it. I can safely say... 98% is in the hands after listening to Luke and you on one of these!

And I must tell you IT IS GREAT ! So much fun to play, and it stays in tune. Even in my cold studio, where the temperature varies a lot. I pick it up, plug it into my Marshall and it is in tune !! I have one of these that was so poorly built I'm using it for parts. This thing did not go through any QC I guarantee. Everything is off. The bridge is not in line with the rest of the guitar so they tried to compensate by changing the placement of the tuners, which makes zero sense. Good thing it was a gift. I've played others that were just fine though. Good vid! Thanks, Elmo!!! The neck pickup does sound good but I bet a replacement would kill it. I’ve been watching so many of your reviews and they’re great. On amps, guitar, and tips for learning. Have you ever thought about recording one comparing some travel/mini guitars? I’m at the beginning of my journey learning - at 40yo - and I find myself on weekends away carrying a full size guitar, not the most portable and not always I can fit in my luggage. I’ve been trying to find out a decent small size/portable guitar but some reviews are quite biased. Donner Hush ones look like paid promotion everywhere, and can’t find people comparing the Blackstar carry-on, the Vox SDC-1 mini, and the Donner Hush I and X (these are on the affordable range I guess, and then there are more expensive stuff that I probably wouldn’t get as a practice travel guitar) Anyway, keep bringing in the great content and yeah, would love if you get to record one on portable/travel/mini guitars. Cheers from Australia.

@@trantien608 Buy the mini short scale length guitar, you'll struggle to play chords on a regular guitar
@scrunt622 жыл бұрын
@@trantien608 I know what you're talking about!! I'll break it down for you in case you haven't gotten a guitar yet: I'm a 23 year old girl and 5'8.5". Despite being "tall" for a lady, I have small hands and short fingers. And my hands are as big as they were when they were 16, 18, etc; they're STILL too small for full size. It just be like that sometimes, lol. You're an 18 year old female, your hands are as big as they're gonna get. Apparently there are many women with smaller hands who have tried to push full size, and managed to play with success, but it was at the expense of grating down the cartilage in their knuckles and having pain and mobility issues for the rest of their lives despite being young and otherwise healthy... Cartilage doesn't grow back, and you're so young, you don't need to give yourself chronic pain or arthritis now. Try to save that for your 50's, haha. If your hands are big enough to play full size, then you can play both full size and 3/4 (like this mini) with relative ease. But if your hands really are too small, it doesn't work the other way around beyond smaller/simpler chords. But, if your hands end up being big enough for full size after all, your skills are still just as transferrable. Also, if it's solely a debate of cost: Even if you weren't at risk of damaging your body, and you were able to completely learn how to play (apart from the obstructions caused by having a guitar that's too big for you), chances are your first guitar isn't your last one. If your hands really are small and you get a full sized guitar, the pain and the fact you can't play most of the songs you try out is either going to fully deter you from guitar, or your next guitar will be a small one! You preserve your health and money by getting a small one. An added bonus is that the smaller size is easier for beginners to learn on, and they're easier to travel with, maneuver and store. There's still a widespread lack of awareness on this issue, so chances are, the more you ask around, you'll still get the same 50/50 of answers, it might still happen even if you go to a music store and ask about it. I've gone through the same thing plus a lot of frustration from trying to play on full size, and I've even found that there's kind of a culture with some dudes (no offense to men in general, sorry) where they treat you as inferior if you want a small size and act like you need to get full size, as if you're not playing REAL guitar, or you're cheating, with a 3/4.... So I hope this helps you and that either way, no matter what route you go, you love playing guitar!!

to my ears, it sounded better the brief moment you played it cleaner with the tone down (but that's just me). With distorsion, it's like the overtones aren't harmonic 😕

Tried it at GC and the tuners are horrible. The model I had was unusable as a result. The rest is fine for what you pay for.
