I have your Mustang's predecessor ... a Bullet Mustang. I put Graph Tech Ratio Tuners, hand wound P90s, new electronics and a custom cut pickguard on it. It's truly an awesome guitar! I really love the neck on these Mustangs. They are IMHO an incredible value.
@kennybluet552710 ай бұрын
Yes they are. Thanks fir watching. Did those tuners fit right in or did you have to drill and is there a specific model name or number on those Graph Techs that I would look for ?

I'm considering the Mustang because a shorter neck would be better for me. That amp story is very helpful, too.

Yeah the 24 inch scale length is great for speed and comfort. That amp is great but don't run any distortion through it. I heard it's a bad idea. Thanks for watching.

Hmmm...ok..... I have 2 Squire Bullet guitars too. A Mustang and a Stratocaster HT. I told myself I was done buying cheap guitars like that. I do like you Mustang you have there with the maple neck and single coil pickups. My Strat is the same color as your Mustang, the brown sunburst. I play D'Addario 9's on the Strat and 10's on the Mustang. Do you have to change out the nut to accomodate the heavier strings? Do you have any issues with the bridge pulling away from the body? Thanks. Great video Kenny!
@kennybluet55278 ай бұрын
Thanks ! No the nut is fine as is for the strings. I've never had a problem with the bridge. Never heard of that as being an issue. It's held down with 4 screws .
@deepiper65293 ай бұрын
@@kennybluet5527 this guitar is really growing on me Kenny. I love the sound of the 2 single coil pickups. I have an Epiphone SG I play 10's on. With this I would'nt hesitate to go to 11's.
@kennybluet55273 ай бұрын
@deepiper6529 yes the 11s will work because the scale length is shorter meaning less tension. I like this guitar a lot and I think k it sounds as good as a Tele . There is one thing I don't like about it and that is single coil hum. I took it to a gig and had to play it with the pickup selector in the middle because the neck and bridge pickups were too noisy. When you put it in the middle , it basically turns it into a humbucker because it uses one coil from each pickup. It worked for me , but I prefer the neck pickup.

Are you using bronze or phosphor bronze strings? I have trouble with balance on these with electric pickups, so I'm curious if that's what you are using because the sound is nice. I have a mid '50's Gibson es125, i use heavy nickel strings with a wound G string for that reason, with normal acoustic strings i couldn't get the g string to blend in. I'm thinking of getting one of these Mustangs, and i like the tone you're getting.
@austinnelson48919 ай бұрын
I guess what I'm asking is, which exact set/model of strings are you using.
@kennybluet55279 ай бұрын
Thanks. The strings are D'Addario 10 gauge phosphor bronze. Sometimes Martin if they're out of D'Addarios. One of the drawbacks of using them is the pickups will pick up the B and high E a bit louder . The bronze doesn't react to the magnets as well. It's subtle , but it's noticeable. I try to adjust the attack accordingly.
@austinnelson48919 ай бұрын
Thank you. Your observations sound like mine. But your sound is good. I've never tried them on a solid body but i will now. I've thought of putting a piece of copper over the pickups where the b and e strings are, just never got around to it. But you've inspired me to experiment again. Thanks for your response

Someone using acoustic strings on electric! Wanted to try on my semi-hollow but haven't yet
@kennybluet55279 ай бұрын
Yeah I find they stay in tune better and give it kind of a dullish flat wound kind of sound . A bit harder to play , though.
@cj.lambert9 ай бұрын
@@kennybluet5527 what gauge just regular acoustic? on my acoustic I play Ernie ball acoustic lights and have extra packs. Thinking of putting on an epiphone es330 (tom Delonge). it's a bit shrill to my ears so I think acoustic strings will dull it out
@kennybluet55279 ай бұрын
@cjlambert911 D'addario or Martin 10 gauge acoustic phosphor bronze. NOT the 80/20 which are wat too bright. There is a bit of a trade off in that the bronze winding of the strings is not picked up as well by the magnets of the pickups. This means that the B and the high E string seem to sound a bit louder than the other 4 strings.
@cj.lambert9 ай бұрын
cool thanks for all the info@@kennybluet5527 ! U could probably compensate by changing pickup height of the low strings to be be closer to those strings? not sure

I like Squiers but hate those white necks. They need some kind of tint . Thats what makes them look cheap
@kennybluet55278 ай бұрын
I can appreciate that but I kinda like the look. Feels good too. Different.
@friedrich19578 ай бұрын
Some of us like that look. Definitely that feel.
@7171jay6 ай бұрын
Squire wants the Sonic line to look a bit cheap so some will put out a little more cash for their more expensive models like the Classic Vibe models. You could certainly tint the neck yourself... I have to agree that the pale look of the neck and headstock doesn't appeal to me and I would probably be changing that if I chose to own one these guitars.
