I used to take a bag of almonds to the pak and feed the squirrels. I quickly realized they were very gentle creatures with individual personalities. They are terrified of the world around them and that makes them not very trusting, but once they trust you it's all love from there.

Squirrels are the most underrated and unappreciated of all the wildlife critters, and are very unloved by many ppl, sadly enough......I have experience with squirrels myself, and they are amazing animals with fantastic personalities--u just have to take the time wth them to find out. They love ppl--if u treat them right--and they will show it to u. Just keep him under lock and key! And dont let him out because he wont survive! And always keep your eyes open for the nasty, hateful, sinister establishment. He reminds me alot of Peanut. Centuries before people had to leave their continent because of famine and religious persecution. Often they didn't make it. Every generation thinks that they experience something special. In the end, it is always more or less the same, just the means change because people's attitudes are the same. In order to live in a better world we should sometimes look at all these little animals. They teach us that fighting about ideas is useless. Having something to eat and to drink plus a secure home is more important. And we can provide for others when they are in need and we are in a position to give. That will make us happy and it helps to make the world a better place.

Wow, what a nice story. It almost brings tears of joy to my eyes. What a nice relationship of a human to a pet. Gibby is happy with this lady, and that is a wonderful thing! She has bonded with this animal. That squirrel loves his owner. They are uniquely bound to each other. I am thinking of getting a cat next year. Thanks for sharing your journey with your pet squirrel. We are squirrel lovers and recently built a squirrel box and left it on the balcony for the winter. We do have a black squirrel that comes everyday, few times a day and sometimes he comes inside the house. He knows exactly where our nuts are stored. Highly intelligent but somehow he does not like to share his food with other squirrels.

I raised a fox squirrel from very small and blind to adulthood. I let her come and go out a gap in the corner of the window screen but I'd wake up and she'd be sleeping in a ball on my pillow. By late summer, I took her down to an oak stand a few times and let her play for hours with the other squirrels. Eventually, she didn't come back down, and I was kind of relieved. She would wrestle my hand and chortle/laugh and play all day all year if I wanted, but these are wild animals and I had a life to lead. Other than the pooping and the time required, Fox squirrels make very fun companions, and mine never bit or scratched at all. But, you'd better have a lot of time on your hands.

we bought this house about a year ago and there is a male squirrel that lives in the back and he is just as sweet as a puppy seriously. If you go out back he wants to be right there with you he will jump up on ur lap. Not at all sure how he came to be this way but it is fine with us he is a pet now.
