I rescued a squirrel. I read on the the squirrel forum not to tell anyone that I had a squirrel. So I listened. I never told. He's doing fine outside where he wants to be now. They were right though. People get jealous. That's why Peanut or Fred aren't happily at home where they should be. I can't imagine someone hurting my squirrel. There is no love quite like squirrel love! And NEVER tell if you do rescue a little miracle of your own.❤

They were happy and PNut did not want to be released back into his natural habitat because he was scared of his experience being attacked by an animal that he returned with a clipped tail. Some rescued wild animals are like that when rescued as a very dependent baby and I see the same thing happen to some squirrels on youtube that couldn't be released back to their natural habitat. In fact, one rescuer said her squirrel was attacked by the outside squirrels so her rescue returned to her and wouldn't go out after that.

That had Nothing to do with jealousy. As with any pet, they must be vaccinated, especially wild caught. They had bitten the owner's friends and have to go through Rabies shots themselves!

They should have isolated both animals and waited at least ten days. Instead officials immediately decapitated both animals. If either had rabies the human caretakers would have known long before officials showed up. In the end, SOMEONES jealousy killed 2 happy indoor animals.

The same thing happened with me! I found a whole nest of 5 babies that still had their umbilical crusts attached and no rehab center or private rehabber would take them because they were too young and would never make it. Two had significant head trauma and one pneumonia and sadly, those three passed, but I was able to raise two females and successfully released them. One came back to visit a year later and had clearly just had a litter of her own. That alone made it all SO worth it!

@1StepForwardToday Long story short the government literally did a raid on a house to get Peanut and Fred then they euthanized both of them🤬... They both were famous on the internet. The government made up a bunch of lies. You should definitely look it up. TMZ interviewed their owners and it's on Utube. The owners have a sanctuary named after Peanut and about 300 animals. Peanuts social media income is what they used to pay the bills for the sanctuary 😔🙏

He was reported to authorities for illegally having wildlife. It’s not much different than if you have pets without a license, you can be subject to fines, etc. and if a pet bites someone, health officials make the determination as to next steps (quarantine if they have rabies shot, euthanasia if not, etc. that’s local jurisdiction). Helps to read the details about the reality of the situation. It sucks that p’nut was euthanized but it’s also important to know that helping wildlife requires knowing the laws and licensing requirements.

I know what you mean about needing somebody to care for. I found a homeless cat living under a piece of plywood because one front leg didn't work. Couldn't defend himself and only got to a food bowl when it was almost empty, when the other cats were done! He stayed in my room with me for the next 5 years and rarely left! I needed him as much as he needed me! I love the squirrel in your family! That is natural love

Do you even know how many states OUTLAW squirrels?... you'd be shocked to learn that it's both red and blue states that Squirrels are considered pests in. This could have happened in any GD state, not just NY!!!

We recently found the beautiful wild mummy squirrel who has been visiting every day to be hand fed for years , had passed away in our neighbours garden. I do not think I cried so much since I lost my dad 20yrs ago. She would run up the back of my chair and sit on top of my head as I worked at my desk in the lounge and make that growling noise when she wanted me to give her a cracked walnut. She once made her way into our bedroom in our house to find me when I was not at my desk and runs up to me if she sees me in the street. She brought us two litters over the past few years to show off and obviously have us feed them. The little ones ran riot fighting in our home so many times and as crazy as it was I would not change that for all the tea in China. We still have her offspring visit us every day for their usual peanuts/fresh apple chunks but I miss the mum terribly. One of her son's with a bent ear came over to my desk a few days ago braver than the rest and I couldn't resist coaxing him up to see what would happen. He was on my lap today taking walnuts out my hand as gentle as a kitten. The circle of life continues.
